After bolting from the hipster coolness of the Castle down the road I found this place. Not hip & not cool, and not the sort of pub you recommend to your maiden aunt. Customers were mostly sozzled or stoned & those who could talk did so in that loud fashion of the intoxicated, positive the world wants to hear their opinions. And this was around 3pm on a week day. My excursion to view the back blocks of Manchester's centre was eventful, but I was happy to return to more sober zones. A pint of something called Acorn, @ 2.70, was drinkable.

Called in here as part of Manc crawl. Cheap as chips!! (even cheaper if you get there before 6) The barmaid is a right babe. To quote one geezer...'shes got an arse nicer that Pippas', wouldn't disagree with that.....Think i'm in love. If you want a decent pint of boddies and a bit of eye candy, then this is the place.

'Discovered' the evening before working at the National Winter Ales Festival in 2010, on my list to revisit this year, so I did. Certainly reminds me of a few pubs around Nottingham I know, but the real ale was good and I'd happily go in time after time if I lived locally. Shame I was the only person in there at the time.

THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS ARE AMUSING TO SAY THE LEAST. Yes this pub has had a refurb and indeed now seemingly wants too attract real ale drinkers by providing the real stuff.

Do not be fooled however as this is still the same rough and unpleasant dump it always was with its regular clientele of chavs, mad old bints and the odd bemused stranger who ventures in.

However cask ales available....... just!
