The Red Lion, Godalming

Pub closed over Easter for some reason ???

11 Apr 2007 12:24

The Sandrock, Boundstone

Still serving superb ales of Black Country origin, which even these days are difficult to find elsewere in the locality.

19 Jul 2006 14:51

The Bat and Ball, Boundstone

Good ale and food sampled on a recent visit.

19 Jul 2006 14:43

The Lamb, Farnham

All real beers were up to scratch on a recent visit.

19 Jul 2006 14:40

The Sligachan Hotel, Sligachan

Not quite the same place as I remember thirty odd years ago and I cannot comment on the food, but there wasn't anything wrong with the beer I sampled on a recent visit.

The Crown Inn, Manfield

There is a limited menu of good food served at this fine hostelry but the main aim here is to serve fine beer. The landlord told me that chips are never served as it ruins the flavour of a good ale. Unfortunately pubs like this are few and far between these days. Well worth a slight detour off the roman road if you are travelling south from Edinburgh to Scotch Corner the pretty way.

18 Jul 2006 13:15

The Ship Inn, Limekilns

Fine hostelry serving fine beers on promenade overlooking the River Forth.

18 Jul 2006 13:06

The Glen Hotel, Newtonmore

Fine beer is served at this hostelry, one being 'Glenboggle', a house beer from the Isle of Skye. Has been voted Pub of the Year for Aviemore and the Cairngorm by the local CAMRA branch. Card carrying members of CAMRA get discounted beer which I thought was a nice touch. Food looked good but was not sampled.

The Benleva Hotel, Drumnadrochit

A place I would never have found without the Good Beer Guide (it was voted local pub of the year in 2003 and 2005 by the Highlands and Western Isles branch of CAMRA. I have to agree with all the coments made by johnrhynie1 and fromedrinker. Well worth hunting this place down.

The Dunollie Hotel, Broadford

They had Cullin Beast (7% ABV) on draught here along with a selection of other beers from the Isle of Skye Brewery in bottled form. I had to spend two nights here and there was a second hand pump in use the final evening. Too much Cullin Beast is probably responsible for me having no real recollection of the beer being served through that pump.

18 Jul 2006 12:41

Grog and Gruel, Fort William

Good beer here. I would have gone straight for the Orkney Dark Island had I seen it. Not sure why the newer pump clips for this beer are quite so bland. The old ones used to stand out a mile.

18 Jul 2006 12:27

The Bridge of Orchy Hotel, Bridge Of Orchy

Fine beer and fine soup. Need to sort out a way of having a proper session at this fine hostery.

18 Jul 2006 12:16

The Castlecary House Hotel, Castlecary

Not quite how I remember the place from twenty odd years ago
but the beer is still fine in this establishment that has featured regularly in the Good Beer Guide for many a year. The food and accomodation are also splendid and very reasonably priced.

18 Jul 2006 12:12

The Rose and Crown, Low Hesket

Good lunch-time stop on the A6 between Penrith and Carlisle. Good beer from Jennings and the food looked good although it wasn't sampled. Made a pleasant change from hammering up the M6.

18 Jul 2006 12:03

Old Crown, Weybridge

Nice to find a pub that opens before 11:00 am and serving good beer when your tongue is dragging on the ground.

24 Oct 2005 14:26

The Red Lion, Histon

Great Pub. I was there in early September, unfortunately a day to early for the beer festival. Will manage another visit later this month.

11 Oct 2005 13:08

The Coborn Arms, Bow

25 Aug 2005 09:51

The Blowing Stone Inn, Kingston Lisle

Great place for lunch when taking in the Uffington White Horse, Wayland's Smithy and the associated part of the Ridgeway.

25 Aug 2005 09:49

The Jolly Brewers, Parsons Green

This pub affectionately known to the locals as badbeers has now closed it's doors for the last time and is being converted into flats.

19 Jul 2005 10:55

Watership Down, Freefolk Priors

Excellent free house set back off the main road (B3400).

14 Jul 2005 16:16

The Anchor, High Offley

Excellant canalside local.

14 Jul 2005 16:12

The Stag Inn, Petworth

Excellent country local.

14 Jul 2005 15:59

The Great Malvern Hotel, Great Malvern

Popped in for an excellent sandwich and a quick pint (or two)
before attacking the Worcesteshire Beacon.

14 Jul 2005 14:58

The Malvern Hills Hotel, Great Malvern

Good Accomodation, Cider, Beer and Food.

14 Jul 2005 14:44

The Rose and Crown, Godalming

There are now three handpumps installed, with Deachars IPA, Fuller's London Pride and Sharp's Doom Bar available.

24 Jun 2005 15:58

The Pelican, Addlestone

We tried to order food in this establishment at 8:30 last night and were told that the kitchen had already closed (despite a statement on the menu that food is served from 3pm until 9pm). However, the bar did wait until we had purchased our drinks before mention the aforementioned fact.

24 Jun 2005 15:47

The Riverside Tavern, Strood

Medway camp itself.

17 Jun 2005 10:54

The Leathern Bottle, Godalming

I don't often visit the Leathern Bottle as it is a bit off my beaten track, but I had reason to call in twice in three days last week and found it to still be an excellent establishment.

3 Jun 2005 12:43

The Bon Accord, Glasgow

I went into this establishment the other night and found them selling Timothy Taylor Landlord (one of my favourite beers). I did not touch a drop ...........

However, the Thrappledouser, Deuchars and Maverick took a severe hammering !!!!!!

An excellent watering hole for those preferring real beer.

3 Jun 2005 11:38

The Garibaldi, Knaphill

Seems to have gone seriously downhill since my last visit in August 2004.

10 May 2005 14:39

The Cuckoo Inn, Hamptworth

An excellent lunch time stop was enjoyed here on a recent visit.

10 May 2005 14:21

The Blue Ship, The Haven

Classic country pub which is quite difficult to find. Drinks are served through two small serving hatches. It is well worth making the effort to find this establishment.

10 May 2005 14:18

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

This makes an excellent lunch time stop on a walk between Haywards Heath and Balcombe (via Staplefield).

10 May 2005 14:08

Selborne Arms, Selborne

This makes an excellent lunch time stop on a walk between Liss and Alton.

10 May 2005 13:42

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

This makes an excellent lunch time stop on a walk between Haslemere and Godalming/Farncombe (via Hydon's Ball and Winkworth Arboretum.

10 May 2005 13:33

The Reformation, Gallowstree Common

This makes an excellent lunch time on a walk between Pangbourne and Henley-on-Thames.

10 May 2005 13:29

The Bunch Of Grapes, Bishops Waltham

This ancient excellent unspoilt pub has been run by the same family for over 90 years.

10 May 2005 13:13

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

Despite this pub advertising "Warm Beer and Lousy Food" this 16th Century Free House it is another good example of everything a good village local should be.

I have sampled the Addlestones Cloudy Hop Back Crop Circle on recent visits to this establishment and found them to be very palatable. I have never quite understood why the Merry Harriers seems to be overlooked by the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

The Pub also boasts a one-acre campsite.
