A newish pub in Greenwich . Only drank here so can't comment on the food. Seemed very busy on the sat we were in yummy mummy's feeding babies in a corner of the pub not sure about that but live and live I say. Drinks were not cheap I can tell you. 1 beer 1 gin and tonic 1 Diet Coke .and a non alcoholic ginger beer £17.33. I'm not tight but that's a bit steep new pub or not. Pub was clean warm and the staff were friendly so not all bad. I should think it would get packed on a good summers day so get down early I would say

Hi.i know this is a long shot but does anyone remember the cracking looking blonde landlady of this pub.we are talking circa 1982/3. I have a photo of me dancing with her. This was on a Friday night when this pub used to heaving. Love to know what happened to her.can anyone help?

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton
Went in here for only the second time on the 12th of march. If this isn't the best pub in Brighton I want to know one better. The food was top notch(I had the fish and chips by the way) what a plateful my wife had a burger both were excellent.Great beer great food a friendly welcome and a varied happy crowd of people. Can't wait to come in here again. Also a quite amazing collection of nick-backs adorn the walls
Altogether brilliant a pub like pubs used to be

Went in for a few beers on the 20th june the place was buzzing ,a really great atmosphere the Maltese landlord really seems too have turned this pub around . A very well done sir, keep it up. After going into the Trafalgar we wished we had stayed in here. So will you. This pub is now back in our top 5 pubs in Greenwich
28 Jun 2015 16:16
Come on where are you .Support your local before it,s too late. We never miss this pub on our yearly pub crawl in Greenwich nor should you ,they really are a frendly bunch in here so come on and give it go ,it's a proper back street corner pub and hey there closing fast so don't let this happen guys .Please
23 Jun 2015 20:59
We popped in on sat the 20th June at 9 30ish the place was buzzing a really great atmosphere and we all had a bloody good laugh, gay straight, whatever this is a very nice pub to be in on a sat night. Would throughly recommend to all .
23 Jun 2015 20:48
Came in here sat afternoon on the 20th june found it too be quite dead. Served by some surly non smiling guy who clearly didn't give a toss whether we were in here or not. Havn,t drank a beer so quick in a long time ,we couldn't wait to leave. Pop in, pay up piss off kind of attitude. Later found out where the custom was going, next door at the yacht. Packed . The trouble with the Trafalgar is that it seems too have been run by a succsession of trainee,s who are here today gone the next , and who don't really care. This place needs a proper landlord/lady .Fast . Used to be a must to vist ,but im sorry not now . Go to the plume of feathers to see how a pub should be

Thanks again for making a great pub crawl extra special .James and Anna your the tops guys. This is truly a special pub and iimplore one and all to come take a look . Sorry by the way if we were all a bit noisy but we all do feel at home here .RIP dave a very nice man you will be missed
21 Jun 2015 17:40
I know it's a personal thing but I can't see the fascination for this pub ,indifferent staff ,sticky tables, sticky bar, music way too loud, trouble getting served, all in all we can't be arsed with it. On the good side it seems too be doing a roaring trade so any pub that's open is a good thing.Nice garden as well .As I said its a personal thing so don't put us down too badly,it's just not one of our favourites in Greenwich. That would be the plume of feathers,

Feels like your having a pint in a cinema foyer? Have never seen the attraction for this pub sorry. Harvey's is good though .Kids everywhere
29 Mar 2015 22:15
Must agree with the last post a great turnaround for this pub .Had a very nice curry washed down with far too many pints of directors it is very very well kept and is dangerously morish

Yet another great day in Greenwich topped off with a vist to this great pub. Only 1 hour door to door from our house in West Sussex by train. Wished we lived next door. God I love this pup.So hopefully will you

If you wish to pay exorbitant prices for your beer then that is entirely up to you of course. Two shillings for a pint was also way before my time .sixty pence was the price of my first pint circa 1979. And I have never had a Cornish pasti from a cellophane packet I can't stand them. Now a steak and kidney pie yes. Was the Richard the first going out of business? I was trying to make the point that with the plethora of eating establishments in greenwich did those brainless burkes at youngs have to destroy yet another truly great tradititonal pub to give us this . I don't think so . As I have said I am not adverse to Change or a bit of a refurb or even a change of direction as they did with the barley mow (now the hill restaurant) as this pub was going down fast , again great in the 80s early 90s and no I didn't rant when this happened. So please enjoy the richard the first but I'm afraid it's not for me and lots of others I have spoken too. It's a pub that has lost it's soul

Please ignore the may 13 the comment as the Richard the first is now fucked up good and proper take my advice and pile in the plume of feathers

Just don't even waste your time.A pub that can't last much longer.I mean serving fosters from cans bought from the local shop do I need to say anymore .Isnt there just one decent pub in crawley.?
16 Nov 2014 17:43
Went in for the first time in years. Has been done up thats about it. No bitter just larger,John smiths is not a bitter it's shit. So is this pub.It has absolutely nothing going for it whatsoever. Had about 10 people in all night on a Friday truly a dire place go to the offi and get some takeaways and go home

Been coming in for years and this pub is a must visit to all that come to greenwich or are lucky enough to live here. I mean it must be great as we come up from West Sussex to drink here it is that good.I / we all wish it was our local its that good ,and no we are not related to the landlord who by the way is a very very nice guy as are all the bar staff .go on give it a go it is the best pub in greenwich after all I mean have you seen the Richard the 1st lately Jesus I hope they never ever do that to this pub .long live the plume

Have just seen the photos of the refurbished pub, what can i say.well just this what drugs are those people on at youngs .why not destroy another pub for a five minute wonder gastro pub (whatever that bollocks means) . I am not a Luddite and I know pubs need a refurb once in a while but come on you they have as far as I can see totally torn away many many years of tradition the one thing England is so rightly proud of . Couldn't they have found a pub that was closed down etc and turned that into a gastro pub ? Jamie Oliver and others have a lot to answer for. All concerned for this total lack of taste and thought should be ashamed of themselves. This is not the rantings of a victor meldrew type ,but I am so bloody angry this was such nice trad boozer now FUCKED .oh by the way if you ever want it back the way it was I have stacks of photos for you to use .Gastro pub my arse
4 Oct 2014 14:51
was open early this year for the british lions match against the aussies place was heaving at just after 11 30ish a good start for our all day crawl.i hope it opens up at this time on a sat for good now ?

The Ashburnham Arms, Greenwich
went in on june 22 the 7 of us doubled the customers .very quiet for a sat night .good beer though, and had a good chat to the landlord about the closeing down of some of the pubs in the area ie the royal george, said it was lack of custom ,when we left there were only 6/7 people in the place now thats a lack of custom on a sat night which is a shame because this is a smashing little pub and is well worth popping in to .PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL IN GREENWICH
28 Jun 2013 12:36
seem to have had the decorators in looks quiet good .good beer ,still dead at 5.30ish we must try and get in here before the market shuts it surely must be busier then ?

28 Jun 2013 12:24
what a weird boozer this is .we are normally ratted by the time we get in here [pub 21 on our all day crawls] but we still get a warm and freindly welcome from the bar staff and locals asking what pubs we have done and how our day has gone we feel that this is a very underated pub indeed what its like monday to friday id love to know . please give this pub a go we think you will like it
8 Jun 2013 15:27
yes more oldies than teens pub but live and let live .always seems a good crowd on a sat afternoon.lots of horse racing on the tv if thats your thing ,beer as said before is ok but nothing to get to excited about im afraid. can feel very warm [stuffy] if you go in on a very hot day . bar staff as a rule are a pretty friendly bunch all round.
21 May 2013 21:07
A NICE PUB WITH A GOOD ATMOSPHERE AND USUALLY A GOOD VARIETY OF LOCALS. BEER IS NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT THOUGH .ARE THESE THE DEEPEST TOILETS IN EUROPE ONE WONDERS ? NOT SURE IF THIS PUB IS STILL A GAY ONE OR NOT BUT I DONT THINK IT IS .I THINK THE PRINCE OF GREENWICH HAS TAKEN OVER THIS MANTLE
19 May 2013 19:15
A GOOD HONEST PUB WITH GOOD VIEWS OF THE THAMES [IF YOU CAN GRAB A SEAT THAT IS] CAN GET VERY BUSY AT TIMES ON A SATURDAY NOT IT SEEMS A TOURIST TRAP UNLIKE THE TRAFALGAR AROUND THE CORNER .TURN LEFT OUT OF THE PUB AND WALK ALONG THE PATH TO THE CUTTY SARK PUB
19 May 2013 19:01
THIS PLACE WAS AS BAD AS IT GETS .AND I HAVE DRUNK IN THE OLD FRIENDS
19 May 2013 18:51
THIS PLACE WAS A BLOODY TRAVESTY TO ALL THAT STOOD BEFORE IT R.I.P THE CRICKETERS

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich
way over the top prices which are so out of order and totally pretentious go straight past and slip in the richard the 1st for a far more enjoyable night for you and your pocket .YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED UNLESS YOU,VE WON THE LOTTERY OF COURSE
19 May 2013 18:36
only went back in here last summer after a very long time and only because we were late starting our crawl .still not as good as it used to be and no im not looking through rose tinted glasses .would use it if it opened earlier on a sat morning as we dont like walking past any pub in greenwich
19 May 2013 17:40
The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich
a bit of a strange one this sometimes packed at other times dead quiet .this is pub number 12 or 13 on our all day crawl ,so at this point we seem to hit a wall and just sit and drink our next one with a glazed look in our eyes. always seems to have a large tv showing sport on sat afternoon .beer always seem to be a good quality .never eaten in here so cant comment on the food .seems popular though .worth popping in for pint or two
19 May 2013 17:31
for us the gpca this is running a very close second behind the plume a great british pub also known affectionately as the tollyhouse . we have had some truly brilliant nights in this great youngs house .i know there was an issue in putting down carpet but it really shouldnt put you off from going in .does anyone remember that awful landlord from a few years back he hated us and tried to throw us out on several occasions but we always manged to sneak back in .what a miserable git he really was.PS.DONT BOTHER WITH THE PRETENTIOUS NONSENSE NEXT DOOR STAY IN HERE AND SAVE A FEW BOB
19 May 2013 14:18
I MUST AGREE WITH THE LAST COMMENT MADE . BUT I DO WISH I COULD PUT MY FINGER ON WHATS MISSING FROM THIS PUB .LOOKS GOOD FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT THEN ??? DOES HAVE A NICE GARDEN AREA .NEVER SEEMS TO BE BUSY PERHAPS THATS IT BUT THEN AGAIN.NOT THE WORST PUB IN GREENWICH.. THE WORST ONES HAVE GONE THE LORD NAPIER THE OLD FRIENDS AND THE BRITISH SAILOR R.I.P
16 May 2013 22:06
a tourist trap through and through not inexpensive .i know its meant to look a bit olde worlde but i just think it looks tired and dirty . cant take away the buzz of the place when it gets busy though .you really do get a whole spectrum of folk in here and that has to be a huge plus
16 May 2013 21:22
this is a local pub for local people .always get a nice welcome from whoever is behind the bar even though we are only in for a quick half .opening times do vary i think it only opens at 12.30 or 1o clock on a sat .havent been in for awhile because of this . maybe in june .pop in on your way to the pelton
16 May 2013 21:05
SHUTTING THIS PUB IS NOTHING SHORT OF CRIMINAL ALL CONCERNED SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME . THE GPCA HAD SOME GREAT SATURDAY NIGHTS IN HERE. A SAD LOSS TO GREENWICH PUB CRAWLERS
16 May 2013 20:51
truly a backstreet gem a must to vist on any crawl or just a good drink a great range of ales not inexpensive but worth it .we never miss this pub .NOR SHOULD YOU
16 May 2013 20:41
a strange pub this one get in here about 5.30 6.00 on our crawls can be busy but more often than not its dead and this is on a sat i can only assume it must be busier when the market is in full swing selling snake head soup or elephants ears on toast.it used to be very busy on friday nights. good range of beers though normally very well kept. worth a vist as you are likley to be served quite quickly unlike the gypsy moth
16 May 2013 20:33
a pub that has been in the doldrums for years as the frog and rad ,ship and billet now the duchess .a pub in its heyday was heaving but that was many years ago.we only go in there first thing sat morning 11.30 ish a quick half then gone would love to know what its like in the evening although i suspect i could guess .keep your money in your pocket and walk on to the pelton arms
16 May 2013 20:07
The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich
this pub is always on our crawls .great looking building great views up and down the thames ,but i dont know there always seems to be something missing on a sunny day everyone sits outside leaving the inside looking like a saloon bar from an old deserted western town. also the staff are indifferent and look like they want to be somewhere else .perhaps now youngs have taken over there might me some changes as they usually run a tight ship .here;s hoping .all that aside the gpca still love it and would never walk past .still one of the best pubs along the thames
16 May 2013 19:57
long time gone now but have to agree with all that has been said before we only went in here on our crawl [pub number 2] to have a laugh to see how bad it was getting after each vist the landlord was like les the landlord from men behaving badly. a truly awful pub all round but was worth a look in to see how bad a pub could get.WIPE YOUR FEET ON THE WAY OUT
16 May 2013 19:40
The Star and Garter, Greenwich

16 May 2013 17:26
the gpca only go here on a sat morning so couldnt tell you what its like in the evening im afraid. on the saturdays we go in we are normally the only ones in there .a pub that seems to have seen better days and has been forgotten about which is a shame .the beer is normally ok though
16 May 2013 17:23
The Plume of Feathers, Greenwich

INDO, Whitechapel
A filthy dire dump purporting to be hip and right on. No excuse for the absolutely filthy grubby feel of this place. The toilets were like he ones in trainspoting( the first one). You would take your life in your hands eating in here. Avoid like the plague or you might end up catching it. Last cleaned when Jack the Ripper walked the streets. An utter disgrace.
