I recently made two visits to the Rose and Crown, in late November. One in the evening and once during a lunch time session. The Rose and Crown Is a Cosy, traditional style Pub, with a “gay” or “gay friendly” Clientele and staff team. Sunday 24th Nov. Evening. Quiet, relaxed and what appeared a regular clientele base. Couples and small groups, mainly bottled wine drinkers, sedate and comfortable but lacking any real atmosphere. Bar staff on shift this evening, somewhat unengaging with customers, appeared to be pre occupied with messaging or viewing something on his smart phone. Tue 26th Nov. Lunch time. Very quiet, just few other Clients, less than half a dozen. Roast beef Lunch. Well presented, very reasonably priced. Beef Luke warm, Potatoes scalding hot, vegetables cold. Bar staff appeared aloof to the point of unfriendly. Didn’t acknowledge our complements, thank you or good bye. Possibly, this pub is only suitable for its regular clients, as we were made to feel like intruders rather than welcome customers. On the whole, disappointing Blueminotaur - 3 Dec 2013 10:23 |
I was a regular visitor to Nevada St. in the late 1970s, and sometimes whiled away the odd hour in the Rose and Crown. You'd stumble across the occasional luvvie doing the same: Susan Hampshire was one I recall. Doesn't seem to have changed that much really. I've kept across a few Greenwich pubs when passing through, and found it well worthwhile. eddybeer - 2 Nov 2013 22:45 |
Had a very nice lunch here - fish and chips. Beer sampled was fine and service efficient and friendly. Good Victorian décor. (Whilst in this part of Greenwich worth visiting the small, quirky but interesting fan museum a couple of doors up the hill). sylviajoan - 24 Aug 2013 10:42 |
