The Pennsylvanian, Rickmansworth
Well its cheap, but the staff are still clueless the beer generally ok and the loos are clean. The pub smells ss though it needs a new carpet, this one is full. Food is hit and miss, steak was ok, fish and chips edible.
As per wetherspoons latest craze, the beers are rammed through a sparkler, so plenty of waste (both beer and time) and no condition.

Popped in for a couple one lunchtime, the place was quite busy but then it is small. Most beers from Brewdog, well kept and served by friendly staff.
£4.40 is the average price.. Wife tells me that the toilets need some attention.
Interesting range of food which we didn't try.

The old landlord jumped or was pushed, either way a result for local drinkers.
I paid a visit on Friday evening and while not heaving it was good to see some of the old crowd back in the pub.
The beer was well kept but sadly only Youngs usual suspects. The new landlords seem friendly and welcoming. The only downside is that having been reduced to using Wetherspoons for a while £4.40 for a pint of Special was a jolt!
Haven't tried the food yet but the menu is more sensible than of late.

The Gunton Arms, Thorpe Market
Very much a gastropub, food is excellent if a bit pricey.
Beer is well kept but not a very exciting range, Adnams and Woodfordes Wherry.
Staff are friendly and helpful but not too "in your face".
Dog friendly.
Apparently King Edward VII stayed here hence a Langtry room upstairs.
The deer park is not part of the pub, but no one seemed to worry about people having a small wander. Oh and the deer appear on the menu...

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, Belgian beers on draught and moules, my wife thought she had gone to heaven. OK not the cheapest but the food portions are good and the staff welcoming. Friends tell me the Sunday lunches are great.
Dog friendly.

New landlord, excellent food, the pub is rejuvenated. Beer excellent and the loos don't smell anymore. Very busy, many faces I thought had left Hendon altogether.

The Hope Inn, St Margarets at Cliffe
Currently closed awaiting "A development" according to Shepherd Neames website.

Red Lion, St Margerets at Cliffe
The "pubbiest" pub in the village, we only stopped for a pint, which was fine but not memorable. Dog friendly and the locals said the Sunday lunch was very good.
Also the only pub I have ever drunk in with a plaque stating that "James Bond drank here, Goldfinger 1959"!

The Smugglers, St Margarets at Cliffe
Almost more of a restaurant than a pub. It has a Mexican menu as well as very good "International" menu. Staff very friendly, beer well kept although not much of a selection on our visits. Essential to book a table at the weekends

The Coastguard Inn, St Margarets Bay
We were staying in the area and found this pub by accident. As has been said what a view! Food was fine the fish and chips was some of the best "pub" fish and chips i have had. The desserts were lovely and in ample portions.
Draught beer was local and in excellent condition.
The staff could not have been more friendly. The cherry on the top is that its dog friendly but watch out for the pub cat.

This pub is dog friendly, the food was great, well sized portions and the 4 draught beers were in great condition. Whole pub was spotlessly clean.
Very welcoming wish I lived nearer!

Food was good, slightly delayed by the local CAMRA rep paying a visit. Otter Amber through a sparkler was a new one on me. Place needs some heating other than an open fire at one end of the room.
Don't be put off by the outside looking like a rough boozer, it isnt. Three ales on, Otter as mentioned, Butcombe and one from Brains.
Staff very friendly, also close to the rugby ground, deserves to do well, as they say a work in progress.

Just been back, beer ok, only one ale on. Food ok, seems there must be a glut of chicken and burgers!
Still very dog friendly.
Nothing else to say except the staff are always very welcoming

The White Horse Inn, Stogumber
Went today, landlord was welcoming, the beer was well kept and the food more than filling.
For the past couple of days I have been hankering for a a steak and kidney pud with lots of gravy and chips. There it was on the menu, and it was all I had hoped for!
Dogs allowed on raised portion of bar area at far end.
As has been mentioned a lovely village, don't miss the church opposite, as is usual.

Third visit, the food was to its usual standard. The presentation was excellent as was the taste! I only had one pint, it was not very exciting, but as I was driving I couldn't really try the others. Previous experience tells me this was just unlucky.
Only real downside, it a bit cool, but that suited the dogs!

Sorry, gone again, went today and a for sale notice on wall. Pub is completely empty.
So sad was one of my favourite pubs

Further to my last comment I then went back to the Greyhound and enjoyed another hours drinking.

Last night I decided to see for myself how good the Chequers is these days. I had already drunk a pint in the Greyhound and as I had heard the prices were lower in the Chequers, it was worth a try. As I walked in the the first thought was someone has passed wind but this seemed to encompass the entire bar. It was just 10.30 and on asking for a drink I was told "Were shut, its traditional on a sunday" this was in a belligerent, get out of here tone, so I did. I may try again in another five years.

Lovely pub next to the church, it rambles through 4 rooms and a restaurant area the entrance has door matting as its flooring and rods to invert welly boots on to dry, together with dog bowls. The next room has tables and stools and the bar with real ales served by gravity. another family room has old sewing machines on display. We didnt sample the food but it is apparently good and locally sourced. Only down side is that they close in the afternoon. The pub is dog friendly and has accomodation.

Highly recommended, the lunch menu is simpler than the evening one. The beer was very well kept and the staff friendly, our dogs were also made welcome and chews offered. They were doing a reasonable trade on a wet November midweek lunchtime.

Sunday lunchtime the restaurant is full, food is excellent and served in good portions the service superb the pub is light and spotless. The only downside is that all the beers are served through sparklers and is served too cold.

Saturday evening, busy pub, beer well kept, staff very polite, food order dealt with promptly. Food hot and freshly cooked looking tasted good. Table cleared and cleaned as soon as we had finished. Some noisy customers but generally pleasant atmosphere with most people enjoying their evening out. Dont like the big TV's but couldn't hear them so minor problem only..

Went here for lunch. Really good to see and be recognized by the landlord previously at the Rose and Crown Hawridge. Cold wet and misty wednesday so the pub was quiet. The beer was first class,Rebellion smuggler, and 2 beers from Tring brewery all very tasty. Small lunchtime menu, but the food was well presented very good and very filling - as were the puds. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

Under new management and noticeably so. The place is now spotless, there are no longer empty glasses left on tables, and it certainly does not smell. The beer is as good as Youngs is going to get.
The recent addition of a food menu is a bonus and the homemade lamb curry is to be recommended.
Not always as full as in days of yore,BUT, people are gradually returning.
New folk quiet but efficient.
Dogs made welcome.

A traditional country pub. Good food two real ales and an old fashioned range with a roaring fire in the winter. Locals and staff very welcoming. Dog Friendly
14 Nov 2008 18:30
Superb food and a good choice of beers, Exmoor, Bath Gem and Waddies 6X together with four ciders and "country wines". Welcoming staff and locals very dog friendly. Do not feed Rosie the sheepdog, her collar tells you she is too fat, she doesnt think so.
12 Nov 2008 20:29
Very welcoming staff, food in good sized portions, dog friendly. Near the beach for a good blow after lunch!
12 Nov 2008 20:03
Friendly pub on a cold November day, the staff welcoming the food was good and the beer even better. Dogs welcome.
12 Nov 2008 19:52
Sadly the Polish bar turned out to be a chicken grill called Fernandos
7 Aug 2008 00:03
Was a rough pub, is a rough pub will probably always be a rough pub. Seems to be run for the pool table regulars, and the benefit of the staff.
30 Mar 2008 00:18
The word on the street, ok the bar of the Greyhound, is that it will shortly reopen as a Polish bar
8 Mar 2008 14:30
Friday night, the music is loud all over the pub, not just by the pool table as it used to be and no it cant be turned down in one part of the pub, good pub Indian food, only one real beer Courage Best.

The Moon Under Water, Colindale
Thursday night just before Christmas and the Duty Manager looks bored, he also has dirty hair and his shirt is hanging out like a small schoolboy's, but then he is the only staff on at 9.30pm, but thats ok because the pub is 2/3 empty. The only noise a group of drunk teenagers, one of whom has a new job, as we now all know. The Manager? well she hasnt been seen since she met Tim Martin.
21 Dec 2007 00:25
The barman says the handpumps will be removed shortly, so just another empty pub with loud music for the staff, no ale just a few kids standing in the garden with one pint all evening waving fags around.......
20 Aug 2007 13:05
A wonderful friendly pub even on a damp Tuesday in January, beer excellent as ever, food superb and dog friendly, has pub poodle.
16 Jan 2007 20:35
The best pub in the area. It has a good atmosphere music isnt too intrusive the food and beer are great,so good that the ex-CAMRA regional director drinks in here!
Its also dog friendly.

The Greyhound, Hendon
Slightly busier than last year, landlord occasionally appears to collect the takings.
Beer is ok, but very limited selection. Standard Youngs £4.40.
