I must say, I was looking forward to this after it had made the AA pub guide for essex. I was however quite disappointed.
The three ales on offer were GK IPA which is avaliable in most places, and not one of the best; the other two were off. The menu does look very good, but for the price, and atmosphere - I've found better places to go back to.

This is an ok pub. But I wouldn't go there had it not been literally 2 mins walk from my house (I look out at it from my kitchen window).
A typical Hungry Horse pub, usually lots of swearing, smoking and kids running around. Only has Green King IPA on tap for the ale drinkers out there, but bottled Speckled Hen.
Food is reasonably priced, and ok if you really can't be bothered to cook.

A lovely pub, the best in Nottingham. Good selection of ales, and the many little bars all have their own character and charm. Centrally placed, and steeped in history. I'm planning on yet another trip up to Nottingham, and hope to go here on a tuesday evening, when they do the tours of the caves and micro-brewery below.
A must visit.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham
I love this pub, and it's one of those places you just have to visit when in Nottingham (the other being the Bell Inn of course!).
Service can be slow, but it's not annoyingly so. It can get very busy, with a number of tourists , and can be tricky to get a seat and table.
Many spill out into the street outside, although you're not meant to. A good few ales on, including the regular - "Guzzling Goose".
Well worth a visit.

The Ship Inn, Burnham on Crouch
A nice pub, with a good outside seating area, overlooking the waters edge. The beer here is well kept, and they've usually got a guest ale or two on.
A lovely place to visit on a sunny day, and if you like a walk - the journey from here to Fambridge along the estuary to the "Ferry Boat Inn" is well worth it.

The Ferryboat Inn, North Fambridge
A wonderful little pub, with some good ales, and the food is very good value for money.
It's in a idyllic walking area, and if you fancy a walk...the journey from the "Ferry Boat Inn", along the estuary into Burnham, and a drink or two at the "Ship inn" is a wonderful afternoon! Both serve good ales, and in wonderful locations for different reasons.

One of the nicest pubs I've ever been to. The beer is very well kept, and sell a good range of real ales, and always seem to have a Crouch Vale on tap. The food is very special, but pricey. However, it's the best food in the area, and is served with a wonderful choice of wine, and very friendly host.

A wonderful little place. Service is good and very friendly, but there's not a lot of seating inside the bar area. Good selection of ales and ciders always avaliable, which changes fairly reguarly. I've only had the bar food, but that was pleasant enough, and very reasonably priced.

No great atmosphere, but very friendly barstaff, good value food and small choice of real ale served.
Unfortunately they don't have the sky tv any more...but still a nice place to drop in for a quick pint.

Unfortunately, due to a change in staff and atmosphere a few months ago, the pub has gone down hill drastically. I haven't been back since, and won't be making any effort to in the future.
A great shame, but the place does miss the likes of Kaz and Kirsty behind the bar!

The Cork and Cheese Ale House, Southend on Sea
A fantastic find. Only discovered the pub through this site, and others recommendations on here. As said previously, an absolute gem!
Again, it's a great shame about it's location, but once inside, who cares...friendly bar staff, good value food, and regulary rotated real ales.
We now get down there as often as possible for a drink and game of darts.
The only good thing about it's location, is the easy public transport links.

Wonderful pub. The menu was fantastic, although we didn't eat this time, we will be back soon! Woodfordes Wherry on tap, which was perfectly chilled and served. Great atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Can't wait to return.

The Famous Railway Tavern Brewing Co, Brightlingsea
Located in the east coast town of Brightlingsea, Essex, the Famous Railway Tavern serves real beers and ales in a real pub. Winner of the Essex/Suffolk CAMRA rural pub award 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001.
This is one of the great pubs in England. Very small, will sit about 30 at a push. When I last went, the open fire was roaring away, the resident greyhound asleep in front of it. There is no food, only great ales at very good prices. It is most famous for the Crab'n'Winkle Mild. There are some board games and some dominos, just a fantastically friendly, and warming place to go and while away a few hours.
