I must say, I was looking forward to this after it had made the AA pub guide for essex. I was however quite disappointed.
The three ales on offer were GK IPA which is avaliable in most places, and not one of the best; the other two were off. The menu does look very good, but for the price, and atmosphere - I've found better places to go back to.

This is an ok pub. But I wouldn't go there had it not been literally 2 mins walk from my house (I look out at it from my kitchen window).
A typical Hungry Horse pub, usually lots of swearing, smoking and kids running around. Only has Green King IPA on tap for the ale drinkers out there, but bottled Speckled Hen.
Food is reasonably priced, and ok if you really can't be bothered to cook.

The Famous Railway Tavern Brewing Co, Brightlingsea
Located in the east coast town of Brightlingsea, Essex, the Famous Railway Tavern serves real beers and ales in a real pub. Winner of the Essex/Suffolk CAMRA rural pub award 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001.
This is one of the great pubs in England. Very small, will sit about 30 at a push. When I last went, the open fire was roaring away, the resident greyhound asleep in front of it. There is no food, only great ales at very good prices. It is most famous for the Crab'n'Winkle Mild. There are some board games and some dominos, just a fantastically friendly, and warming place to go and while away a few hours.
