The Borough Arms, Dunmere

This is another pub that should be listed as "restaurant that serves beer". The drinking area was minute compared to the eating area. St Austell pub, so the usual three available along with the ubiquitous Rattler. Friendly staff.

Serves a carvery every day, along with quite a varied menu. If wanting a carvery on Sunday - you have to book a table to ensure a seat. we managed to squeeze 3 of us onto a table for 2. The main menu was very good - braised ham hock with honey and mustard sauce was excellent, as was the spinach and 3 cheese lasagne. The puddings were very good (apple pie), but served with the smalled amount of clotted cream you've ever seen. They must use a melon baller to serve it!

Booked for the carvery on the following Tuesday - the choice of meat was good (pork, turkey and beef) but the vegetables looked rather sad. I've never seen grey savoy cabbage before.

The Golden Lion, Port Isaac

First time visit - as noted by previous poster the beach car park is now closed. The new car park is a pretty long walk from the village itself, and not to be taken lightly if you have health issues. My knees may take some time to recover.

The Golden Lion is what I would call a rpoper, seaside pub. Small, great seating, overlooking the harbour itself. It also appears to be guarded by a very old cannon...

The usual St Austell beers available, along with Rattler. Served a fairly decent pint. Didn't try the food, but looked on in awe as the biggest piece of cod I've ever seen was delivered to a table near us.

My visit was somewhat spoiled by the children allowed to scream and shout by their parents. Nothing the pub can do about this, but incredibly irritating just the same.

The Shipwrights, Padstow

We've been to this pub once before, and felt it worth a second visit. Fantastic looking pub, with a sympthetically decorated interior - except the flat screen TVs, but then you can't have everything.

Very good choice of beers and ciders - the usual St Austell suspects and Rattlers. Friendly staff who don't hassle you. Have yet to try the food, but it looked pretty good. Difficult to get a seat ouside on a sunny day, so had to settle for inside. Not sure why this pub hasn't got into the Good Beer Guide yet.

Napoleon Inn, Boscastle

Very, very quiet. Literally us, one woman and her dog. Pub looks superb from the outside, and the original features are in evidence inside. Tribute from the cask, which is unusual, but suffered a little from the warm and humid air. Friendly barman, but more interested in chatting to the local. Quite difficult to find when going into Boscastle - easier when driving out of the village as the signage is easier to see - and very, very steep road to the car park, but then everything in Boscastle is steep.

Overwhelming smell of toilets in the bar (Funs Bar - why?) as they are close to the bar door. In my opinion,it's never a good thing when the bar is full of flies buzzing around....

The Cornish Arms, Pendoggett

The locals seemed to appreciate the Thai Buffet that was on offer when we visited. What no-one tells you until you get there is that a) you have to book the buffet (not a problem, we don't like Thai food), b) you have to reserve a table on theme nights and c) if you don't order any non-theme food before 7:15 pm, you don't get any food at all. The Theme nights are only advertised outside the pub, so you don't know until you get there! Be aware - Thursdays are Thai....

Welcome was friendly, service was quick, but food over expensive. Fish and chips, and two lasagnes came to 34.50. The lasagne, although delicious, was a medium sized-portion served with approximately 20 chips and in no way deserved the 11.50 price tag. There is a good range of beers, unfortunately the first one was warm - never a good sign when it's come from a hand pump.

Fountain Inn, Mevagissey

Not a large choice of beers, but well kept. Best St Austell Tinners served throughout our visit to Cornwall. Bar is small, but in keeping with the age of the pub. Barman very friendly and knowledgable about the area. Plenty of visitors popping in to order their dinners later in the evening - particular mention made of the locally caught fish in beer batter.

Earl of St Vincent, Egloshayle

The entry for this establishment should be "Restaurant that also sells beer" and not "Pub that sells food". The outside looked very welcoming - flowers, hanging baskets, benches - it's a pity that this wasn't in evidence inside. The place was full of tables, and each and every one was reserved for diners. When asked if there was any place to sit which wasn't reserved, we were shown two hard back chairs, with no table to put our glasses on. Eventually we went outside to the smoking area (both of us are non-smokers), just to get a seat and table. The beer choice was limited to St Austell - not a suprise as it's St Austell pub - but they did have 3 different types on sale, as well as Rattler ciders. We went in once, and swore not to go back.
