I visited this pub a couple of weeks ago & thought it was lovely. The barmaid was very friendly and was happy to talk to us about the 200+ clocks on show and the twice yearly change each one needs when they need to go forward & back. The landlady then appeared and she was also very nice. The beers were well kept and I would come here regularly if only I didn't live 250 miles away! Not sure why previous reviews mention that it's mainly a restaurant as I didn't get that impression & the landlady said that isn't what she is running. rjb1973 - 11 Oct 2011 21:55 |
The entry for this establishment should be "Restaurant that also sells beer" and not "Pub that sells food". The outside looked very welcoming - flowers, hanging baskets, benches - it's a pity that this wasn't in evidence inside. The place was full of tables, and each and every one was reserved for diners. When asked if there was any place to sit which wasn't reserved, we were shown two hard back chairs, with no table to put our glasses on. Eventually we went outside to the smoking area (both of us are non-smokers), just to get a seat and table. The beer choice was limited to St Austell - not a suprise as it's St Austell pub - but they did have 3 different types on sale, as well as Rattler ciders. We went in once, and swore not to go back. Even if you don't have a fascination for clocks you should visit! The number of clocks (and a few other instruments - barometers etc) is unbelievable. You can imagine what the sound is like when they all go off ... Egloshayle is very close to Wadebridge (just across the river - you can walk across on the suspension footbridge) so handy for a pint before or after walking or cycling the Camel Trail. After is better, probably. The food is good and plentiful. There are a couple of friendly cats. In Summer, nice window boxes and hanging baskets outside. Tweak_Head - 9 Nov 2005 14:25 |
