Terrible service when busy, so the place could make a lot more money if they could only improve the service. It annoys me when people buy two drinks and pay by card! I've given up and moved on when this has happened. This pub used to be far busier (1980's) yet the service was quicker. Bring back Nick Oliver!

Live music every day except Monday, so if that is your bag then you should enjoy it. Unfortunately the bands regularly use over half of the available area in the pub! The bar staff are friendly and don't run away and hide when you want to be served like they do in the Litter Tray and Sack.

This pub suffers from a poorly laid out bar serving area which involves staff having to negotiate steps to get from one end of the bar to the other. This results in it being difficult to get served when even only moderately busy. Rather drink in the Cup!

Indifferent beer quality. Staff don't tend to hide away so much these days (when the manager is around). Too many chavs!

I use this pub only to watch football. It's not a surprise that the place is struggling to stay in business as the staff shut the tills down before 10:45 pm to avoid having to serve any more customers! Glad I'm not a shareholder in that business, but Witherspoon's aren't complaining! This place is going the way of Yates' and Ha! Ha! Bar, i.e. down the pan.

The new landlord "Maverick" has managed to undo most of the good work work done by the original manager who ran the place after the refurbishment. The lagers are warm, flat and expensive. I don't like Thwaite's beer so I won't comment on the quality of it. The pub annoyingly closes well before 23:00 in the week so don't bother trying to grab a pint there if you've been to a mid-week football match. You are subject to televisions showing pop videos interrupted by adverts. Used to go there five nights a week but try to avoid the place now (as do all of the decent staff who used to work there!). This pub is on it's way out with the the Litter Tray and the Cup.
