The Crown Inn, Frampton Mansell
Don't know what this pub was like before Vernon's took it over but it's lost a lot of the ambience of a country pub. Nice enough but lacks charm and atmosphere. A country pub for town dwellers. Can understand why the locals give it a miss.

The Pilot Inn, North Greenwich
The only pub on the Greenwich peninsula. Formerly a freehouse but recently taken over by Fuller's. Lost most of their former bar staff in the chageover and the current crowd aren't a patch on the old lot. The food's not as good either. However, it is a shade cheaper than before.

The location is everything with this pub. Other than that it's just a fair-to-middling boozer that sells a so-so range of ales, expensive fish and boasts a Dickens connection.

Two Millwall fans who turn up and it's a Millwall pub, eh? I think not.

The sort of pub a tourist will like and a local hate. Not a great place for a pint, but a good place for a pint and a meal.

What they've done to the interior of this pub in recent years is tragic. Lovely Victorian tiles now wasted in an idiotic 'bar style' pub. An absolute mess.

Easy to get over excited about this pub simply because it has snugs and feels olde worlde. Last time I popped in the beer glasses were filthy and the staff barely understood English. If they sort that out, it's worth visiting for a quaff.

Definitely one of the better pubs around Marylebone (which isn't saying much). Comfortable and civilised place for a pint.

Nice pub with with a touch of the quaint. Good restaurant, though the food can be a touch 'poncey'. Beer's very acceptable - serves Palmer's, though not Tally-Ho (not on my visit anyway). Pretty roomy.

The Clock House Hotel, Chideock
Not exactly got a village feel to it, but nevertheless unpretentious and comfortable. Food is enormous and cheap.

The Tunnel House Inn and Barn, Coates
Certainly got character this pub and worth a one-off visit. It's the sort of pub you'll either like or not like. The decor is tatty and the staff give the impression of surliness. But it is a genuine pub and its location - at the end of the Sapperton tunnel - makes it an ideal watering hole after a long walk.
