The George and Dragon, Houghton
Just had lunch there today - a glorious spring day, and the sun came out which encouraged us to eat and drink on the terrace outside! So what can I say - great welcome, nice food, nice pint, can't wait to go back! Walkers welcome.

The White Hart, Hamstead Marshall
Called in today for lunch and a pint whilst on a walk. Are Mondays always as quiet as this? No-one else there! Nice pint of Youngs, very pleasant service, and a good ham, egg and chips. Hope the pub has lots of busier days and survives as a traditional rural pub, and doesn't get converted into an oriental restaurant or a gastro pub.

The Winchfield Inn, Winchfield
Nice pint of the local Andwell King John bitter today. Friendly staff and I shall return to sample the food soon!

Popped in for lunch today. Great pub, pleasant clientele, friendly landlord, good homemade soup, good beer.

Friendly pub that welcomes walkers - in fact, they will take your order before you walk and valet your car while you're gone. Good food, good beer. Sorry, only joking about the car.

The Pineapple, Brimpton Common
Called in at lunchtime last week for a pint and a baguette. Both were good. The licensee could not have been more helpful.

Called in mid-afternoon last week for a pint and a bowl of soup. Licensee could not have been more helpful. This place has a long and eventful history - I hope it has a healthy future.

Great village, great walks, feels like a great pub although I was driving and only had a half and didn't meet Henry!

Wen there in early Feb after a walk. Liked the look of the place, but our visit was ruined by two locals and their two dogs who barked incessantly - the dogs I mean - and no-one took any action.

Feel exactly the same as your Jul 05 reviewer - very pleasant pub, superb burger and decent beer. Excellent walks nearby. Highly recommended.

What's happening there? Called today (Thursday in Feb)after a long walk, asked for a lunch menu - two charming Polish girls behind the bar said that they were not doing lunches on certain days of the week. A group of 15 walkers then arrived, then an elderly couple, all wanting lunch - so that's nearly 20 dissatisfield customers!
Now the pub's website is down!

Most definitely worth a visit! I drive over there from 20-25 miles away when up in that area on business. Great pub, great food, and if you don't know Cartmel, what a smashing village. Give yourself an hour to wander around before your meal.

I think the landlord is actually very amusing rather than scary - a touch of the Basil Fawlty! The food is excellent, and as the pub is on a good walking route, for your ramblers, it's favourite of ours for either a weekend evening meal or a Sunday afternoon pint.

The Royal Oak, Holmbury St Mary
No real atmosphere?! Try it on a Sunday afternoon in the winter, like today. Good food, served all day, a very nice pint, Sunday newspapers - what more could you want.

Not sure why Pete left, but it's certainly a lot worse since then. Used to use it for business meets over a pint or a coffee, but not now. Gobe down market, and what's worse, either the clientele all smoke or the place needs new filters - it's pretty unpleasant in the bar.

Tumbledown Dick, Farnborough
Sadly gone for good. It's now a drive-through MacDonalds. The listed frontage has been preserved.
