The Hack and Hop, Fleet Street
Ridiculously overpriced place with an admittedly fairly extensive range of beers, although a good few of them (including some of 4% to 5% abv offerings) will set you back £6 or more a pint. You certainly won't get anything for less than £4 a pint.

Yes, a disappointment on a number of fronts when we were regularly there at the end of September. The quality of the food is good, but most of the problems seem to emanate from the landlord who seems to be devoid of personality, leadership skills or any desire to offer good customer service.

Good pub. I'm glad that yellowfever's wife was welcome in the bar area and given biscuits.

Generally a local's pub with pleasant staff in a good location near the station. It really is a lager - and Fosters at that - drinkers' pub, but the landlord is doing a really good job of introducing a varied selection of real ales which change regularly. This evening you could choose, I think, from Dark Star Hophead, Clarence & Frederick's APA, Woodfordes Wherry and something else. The quality is also improving as more people drink the cask ale. Long may the progress continue!

Popped in out of curiosity on what turned out to be the first proper night of opening. Eight real ales and a couple of ciders on hand pull plus a few interesting looking kegs. I had a pint of Oakham Citra which was good, and a pint of Summit for the Weekend from Elland brewery which was really well kept. Obviously still finding its feet, this place has loads of promise, is friendly and deserves a try.

Visited on 6 Feb. Early signs were good - a pleasant, eclectic crowd and an impressive, if expensive, selection of beer. I was told I could only have half a pint of Dark Star Critical Mass (which at 7.8% I thought was fair enough at the time). At around 8.30 the place almost emptied and then seemed to become rather cliquey, with the young barman overindulging a small group of regulars, one of whom was served a pint of Magic Rock Cannonball (only, I think, 0.4% less than the Critical Mass) without question even though he was already quite obviously three sheets to the wind. I left and let them get on with it.

The Partridge, Partridge Green
I visited at lunchtime on 8 November. This could be such a good pub, what with its superb Dark Star ales, none of which ever disappoint. It all starts well with a friendly and seemingly efficient landlord/bar manager. Then he disappears, never to be seen again. The sole remaining barmaid is pleasant enough but not on this planet. She leaves people for fifteen minutes waiting to be served in what is not a busy bar and re-emerges from her fun with the chef (judging by the giggling coming from the kitchen area) without so much as an apology. Dark Star does need to consider whether the current set up in The Partridge might damage its brand.

So, one needs a moustach (sic) and a deerstalker to appreciate the fact that the ale at the Oval is badly kept. Right ho, Watson.

What a splendid pub! A fantastically well kept, ever-changing selection of ale; lovely relaxed atmosphere as well as pleasant and efficient bar staff. A winning combination!

The George, Croydon
I don't know what you are on about, slerp. Didn't notice the others you mention but there were three different Dark Star ales on offer a couple of days ago.
