The Reindeer is a quiet village pub set back from the main road. It was very quiet on my Saturday evening visit. I'm told it was about to close for a refurbishment. The 4 ales were Ringwood Mauler, Jennings Bitter, Marstons Pedigree & Thwaites Wainwright. Not a bad pub. But I'm struggling to work out how this pub makes the Good Beer Guide, when the Black Horse at Caythorpe is absent. blue_scrumpy - 4 Apr 2016 19:45 |
I visited the Reindeer on a cool Thursday evening with a couple of friends. This was the first visit in several years, principally because like many village pubs it had gradually run out of patrons. This time we noted that the pub has changed considerably. In the small bar was a welcoming log fire but the other (larger) bar, now the restaurant was empty. We doubled the numbers from 3 to 6 when we entered and we were made welcome by the Landlord. The Blue Monkey Original was excellent and I believe the Harvest Pale was good too. There were one or two others who popped in and hopefully the Reindeer does far better trade at the weekend. All in all a nice little village / gastro pub with friendly staff. 8100bob - 18 Nov 2011 11:53 |
This used to be a favourite haunt of mine, not so much lately, when I noticed that the price for one and a half pints of bitter, and a small dry white wine was nearly a tenner! That could have been a mistake obviously, unless it was a Puligny Montrachet, in which case it was cheap, but I somehow doubt it was! Im not a skin flint, but the fact that the beer wasnt overly well kept (at least not on my last visit) and the "in crowd" around the bar were not, to say the least, interested in moving to let one get served, didnt bode well with me. Hey, my platinum cards and cash are worth the same as theirs arent they? Id say drive into Caythorpe, and sample the delights of The Black Horse. Icehockeyboy - 8 Apr 2009 00:12 |
great little pub fool of a landlord. when you cant see through the beer and you mention this you get called a idiot and its probably a dirty glass ! refused to exchange the beer. now perhaps its me but this chap could probably improve his customer relations skills. advert - 9 Jul 2008 17:38 |
Absolutely great little pub, serving excellent food (rare roast beef for Sunday lunch - so difficult to find in pubs generally!) and a good selection of beer. Dinning room for the eaters, very snug bar with open fire for the drinkers. Dog friendly - I'm not a dog owner myself, but I found that the couple of dogs that made themselves very much at home by the fire, on the Sunday afternoon that we were there, were a very welcome addition to the assembled company. Looks quite unprepossessing from the outside, but do venture beyond the carpark, its a real gem. vickyw43 - 16 Mar 2007 21:20 |
