Didnt like this at all. Too big, too plastic and too many kids around. On the plus side, the Old Trip was very nice, and got topped up without me having to ask. The Old Ship up the road was far nicer.

This pub is extremely good value for money in terms of food. I don't know if they have had a recent change of management, but I have noticed a real improvement in this respect, and in terms of the friendliness of the manager. Service is prompt, the beer garden is pleasant, and you get a good cross-section of people.

Has supposedly been re furbished, to the standard trim of 1000 other establishments, Beer is average, despite hardly any customers on the evening we visited , was told by the Manager that we would have to wait over an hour to eat, as 'we only have one cook on duty and a kitchen assistant ( bottlewasher obviously)' .
The manager here is one of the most ignorant I have encountered.
Re. a previous post here.... Yes, Tommy Lawton was once the landlord here, in the early 1960s I believe.

Popped in there yesterday for a quick one. First time in over 30 years. Excellent choice of ales, from Hardys and Hanson, one of the few independants left in the area. Great pub, thoroughly recommend it.

Can anyone help with a failing memory. Was this place kept by footballing legend Tommy Lawton about three centuries ago? PsychO

Big beer and food place - worth suggesting as I believe it to be uniquely named.
