We go to this local pub on a regular basis and always enjoy the food which is well cooked and presented and served by cheerful and friendly staff. The pub itself is always clean and has a good atmosphere and in the summer we enjoy eating in the large beer garden. The landlord has been there for a good many years (about 20 I think) and so has Jimmy the head chef. We have got to know lots of regulars over the years and some of them travel quite a way to eat there and are never disappointed. Portions are very generous and the prices very reasonable. We have no hesitation in recommending The Red Lion to anyone looking for good food at good value for money. villagers - 28 May 2010 21:41 |
Eat here at your peril, the pub sells itself on 16th century charm but is nothing more than an outdated Berni inn serving simple pub food that is simply rubbish. We ate here on Wednesday 28th May 2008 and found the food overpriced and simply a combination of content from the freezer, deep fat fryer and the packet, there was no welcome and very little thank you. I had a starter of supossed butterflied prawn which turned out to be nothing short of 4, yes 4 minute deep frid prawns, I am not sure if the chef ??? would know a butterflied prawn if it bit him. This was followed by fillet steak which was the only fresh cooked item on the plate. My partner took the tempting mushrooms with refreshing garlic dip !!!!!, the mushroons were simply deep fried frozen rubbish with half a jar of cheap tacky garlic sauce followed by a supposed steak and ale pie topped with cheese ( strange, I know), this turned out to be just a pre prepped microwaved dish of slop with cheddar cheese again just microwaved to puree on top thus swimming in grease from the cheese which was a complete overkill. All accompanying veg, fries, onion rings etc were simply rubbish deep fried frozen junk. The final insult was asking for a pepper sauce to acompany my beef and was told it may well take a while to make which I accepted, however, it came in a flash and yet again was simply packeted powder mix which has probably never seen a black peppercorn it its life and they had the ordasity to charge an extra 2.75 for it. No atmosphere, no smiles, not character, NO GOOD. ferrarilad - 30 May 2008 18:29 |
