Run by a mother and daughter team these days and as someone said earlier it's so "cliquey" You're made to feel totally un-welcome when you walk in. I went in there a few Sundays ago and the mother was at the other end of the bar chatting with about 5-6 of her chosen few. She dragged herself down to serve me without a word, just looked at me, gave me my drink, took my money gave me change and cruised off to the other bar again. When I wanted another I got a look that seemed to say " Oh God, are you still here." I don't see how they can be making it pay as it's often empty even at week ends. The only time it's crowded is if they've got an event there. A village pub should be buzzing, at least at week ends. largebells - 13 Mar 2013 23:14 |
We had a lovely welcome both times we visited recently, and good food. I'd recommend it. rasplicious - 29 Mar 2011 16:45 |
A good pub spoilt by a second takeover. It should never have left Gills hands in the first place. However it is now in the same league as the Ivy Leaf and has a clicky clientele. An uncomfortable welcome awaits with heads turning as you walk in. Shame as it was once a lively and fun pub. A lot of hard work has gone in but it's missing the 'x' factor. 12go - 6 Dec 2010 21:17 |

I have to reply to the comment made by oxbow.daddy on Nov 12 as I totally disagree that the pub is run by a family with ""the biggest pocket!!" I can absolutely assure you that this is not the case at all!! Gill has worked so hard over the past months to bring The Plough into the 21st century - she has worked tireslessly, often from the start of the day to closing time. She has 'ploughed' (sorry- pun intended) her efforts, care and commitment into this pub and she certainly has NOT got endless supplies of money. Indeed it is totally the opposite - she has put in every penny to a venture that she wanted so badly that she cannot afford to even run a car!! Gill and her family were running the pub some years ago and, unfortunately, they lost control to another set of managers. The Moulden family then worked so hard and made such amazing sacrifices that they have my unswerving respect and admiration for their efforts. Perhaps if oxbow.daddy was aware of the circumstances surrounding their mammoth determination to get their pub to the present high standard then he would be commenting on a more positive note. Obviously, for 'a village where everyone seems to know everyone else's business' (your quote I think) you are obviously blissfully unaware of their momentous hard work for the past year. Not, I repeat, made possible by an endless amount of cash but an endless amount of grit and hard work! So come along and support one of your local pubs who have recently been nominated for the Chronicle Pub of the Year!!! Perhaps the readers of this local paper know a thing or two????? cardeyg - 16 Dec 2009 15:04 |
