I feel that the quality of the food and service here has fallen significantly. The table and the window sill were sticky, the menu was a tired sheet of A4, our burgers and chips were very dry, nobody asked us if everything was OK during our meal and it took nearly two hours despite the fact that we had booked and arrived quite early in the evening. Won't be coming back here again... shame. ralphbar - 24 May 2012 23:11 |
I want to be nice to this pub I really do, so let's start with the good things - it has a nice garden and the bar is one of the most traditional in the area with a stone (or is it tile?) floor. When it is full, the locals give it a good atmosphere with plenty of good humour. The beer choice is okay but nothing local is served and the last time I went there the beers I had were pretty poorly kept (which also applied the time before that). Now, I can understand why pubs have introduced restaurants and why, from time to time those tables are reserved but when they start reserving tables in the bar, then in my opinion things have gone a bit far. Back to positives though, I felt that my food was good although I did get nagged that vegetarian or fish options were in short supply. Look, this is basically a decent pub but with faults, although nothing that a slight tweak in attitude and a cellar management course couldn't cure. Campanologist - 23 Nov 2011 17:36 |
New owners since spring this year, have settled in well and for the test of time, least a summer so far, the outlook is very promising. Beer, food and service being paid attention to by the landlord and his lady, staff in good form. Good garden, good for kids, dogs and walkers. Definitely worth a visit and a steak on Tuesday nights on the path to greatness. pubpecialist - 3 Nov 2011 09:59 |
A great little pub with loads of atmosphere, really out in the sticks, single track lane from Gt Misssenden to find this place, but well worth it. Good service, reasonable prices, did not eat but meals we saw looked good and hearty. Loos used by the ladies in our party and they were clean. The sort of pub we would go back to for further drinks and something to eat - service was good, could find not fault with this pub. davidfthorn - 21 Sep 2010 09:48 |
We've been here several times in the last year for lunch which has been excellent every time. The choice is limited but personally I prefer this as the food is generally fresher. There's a cosy snug bar with an open fire which always has a few locals chatting to the staff. I had a superb pint of Directors last time we were there. cilliecider - 4 Jan 2010 21:41 |
