The Victory was the first of 3 South Gosforth establishments I sampled late on Wednesday evening. I didn't find it particularly welcoming. My arrival appeared to be a distraction for the barmaid, who was placing glasses on shelves. Without getting off the floor, she asked if she could help me, almost as if there was a faint possibility that I wouldn't need any help that would require her to get off the floor. Ales were Victory Ale (Caledonian Edinburgh Castle), Theakston Lightfoot & Thwaites Wainwright. Some kind of musical pub quiz was going on. So there was no chance of a quiet drink. Nice enough interior. But nothing else to recommend it. blue_scrumpy - 14 May 2016 18:04 |
Beer still poor. In my humble opinion no real change despite new management. Still no food. Expensive compared to other pubs in the immediate area. Did not get in this years camra real ale guide. Its been 12 months since I was last in and I think best avoided for the future. beer_inspector - 7 Oct 2011 16:18 |
Getting better, I'd say. Landlord seemed enthusiastic about the beer and the pint I had was certainly very good. Possibly smartened up a bit as well since some of the previous comments. Worth giving it another go. twohalves - 28 Jun 2011 22:20 |
Thankfully now under new management. They are making a real effort but still have beer quality issues in my opinion. Maybe they should try selling fewer different bands?. Service is much better as they do most of it themselves. Prices still quite high and still needs refurbishment. They have tried doing Sunday lunches . maayoiyot - 5 Dec 2010 15:30 |
visited again recently. No real change other than the beer was rank so i took it back. The next pint was no better. I've noticed many of the Victorys former locals in the Brandling just down the road, and that where i'll head in the future. maayoiyot - 4 Apr 2010 14:23 |
