The Queen Victoria was pretty dead on my Wednesday evening visit. The one other customer left soon after I arrived, leaving me with just 2 bar staff and the landlord. The interior is nice enough. It is fairly traditional. 3 ales and a cider were on - Sharps Doom Bar, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Rudgate Jorvik Blonde & Westons Old Rosie. I drank my Old Rosie swiftly and moved on to busier pubs.

Well-furnished and comfortable bar on the busy High Street. Local ales were available as well as a couple of "guests" (Wadworth 6X for example). Beer was fine and I stopped for a couple of halves. TV screens but no sound. The snacks looked intersting (cheese board/toasties etc) but I didn't eat here. Wenesday early afternoon so only a couple of drinkers in the bar but I think I would use this pub as my local if I lived in the area. Plenty of bus stops nearby (you can watch the busy traffic from the pub window) and a brisk walk from either Regent Centre or South Gosforth Metro stations. Overall- a pretty good boozer.

Probably the only boozer on the high street that isn't rubbish. Although the previous review states the brandling villa is owned by the same lease company. It isn't, it's independent.

The Queen Vic is shaping up to be a very decent local boozer. It is now owned by Leopard Leisure, who have also turned around the Brandling Villa in South Gosforth. The Queen Vic now has a fair selection of well-kept real ales; it does good food (including 'Northumbrian Nibbles' - 2.50 portions of delights such as roast tatties, sticky sausages, chilli prawns, etc; Geordie tapas, if you like, advertised on a blackboard on the bar to complement the main meals menu). It's no longer 'darn awful' or a resort for alkies and charvers - well worth a try.

Now called the Queen Victoria. When I went in the other week, they were playing The Smiths: The Queen is Dead' - Irony? Maybe - because it is pretty darn awful in there. Don't drink the wine unless you're used to drinking vinegar.
