The Brandling Arms is set back a little from the High Street and therefore enjoys a pleasant green area at the front. It's fairly large and the interior is modern and airy. But there appears to be a focus on food. Durham White Gold is the regular ale. 2 guests were Woodfordes Tundra & Harbour Breakfast Pale. None of these took my fancy. So I opted for an Aspalls cider. Nice building. But a little disappointing as a pub. blue_scrumpy - 22 Jan 2017 22:26 |
Some decent beers. Feels a bit 'studenty', but nice enough and plenty of space and seating. Not at all bad. twohalves - 28 Jun 2011 22:21 |
I really love this pub. It's overpriced, they run out of vital ingredients so half the menu is usually off. But yet I still love it. Great atmosphere, chilled and a good place to meet friends. Weekend afternoons are the best as the evenings can be pretty packed. Gosforthgirl - 18 Jul 2010 11:51 |
A year on and here's an update. It's now onto it's 3rd bar manager and seems to be VERY quiet on an afternoon and VERY busy on weekend evenings. Afternoon crowd can buy most of the drinks on offer much cheaper within 200 yards. Wine list is still shocking and they do a 10 wine offer on Tuesday's when every bottle is just a tenner. Most wines are 5.99-7.99 for a bottle elsewhere on the high street so even at a tenner it's s shocking price. Not good for value, food is cooked in front of you and freshly prepared and that's it's big selling point but don't expect much change from 30 for 2 meals and 2 drinks. jazmincleo - 10 Mar 2009 10:27 |
not at all bad. bit like an ikea showroom though. good selection of lagers but a bit thin on the cask ale front. jakedog - 11 Dec 2008 11:15 |
