Re-vamped and re-opened in mid December, the Middle Bell is now an up-market pub/restaurant. I am led to believe by my reliable sources that the term 'nouvelle cuisine' would be an apt description of the artfully served, jus drizzled menu, so if you are fancying a blow-out I probably wouldn't bother dining here. On the other hand the bar is, at present busy and lively and serves a reasonably priced pint of Tim Taylor's Landlord. A caveat though, if possible I persuade the lady wife to drink beer rather than the wine which seems hideously expensive at 6 a glass! doctorpint - 9 Jan 2012 15:57 |
I have already posted info on this pub but wanted to describe more recent service which has been somewhere between poor and average. The food varies between quite good and good. The decor and comfort factor of the place is still modern and pleasant. However, I am fed up with poor service both from the older staff and the teens they employ. If you want good service or even just service with a smile - do'nt bother going to the Middle Bell. It's lease is up for sale and I really hope a new landlord can improve matters!!! We went for a lunchtime drink here and I liked this pub, friendly and relaxed... should be more pubs like this around. Yes, it has sofas.. thats GOOD - get with the year 2006!!! Nice modern decor, just what we, as a modern couple, like. It is not a typical dingy old fashioned pub - thank God... WanderingWoman - 13 Dec 2006 15:59 |
I'm a regular and spend most nights visiting this pub. Yeah I may be biased but the food is excellent and great value for money, especially off the specials board. As for waiting for a seat...there is a simple answer to that one......get in earlier! Or go to a less popular pub! I find the beer is usually very good, they turn over a lot of pedi, guinnness etc so it's always fresh, certainly not dire. No it's not the best beer in the village but the wine list certainly is, vodka shots and supercooled lager (which they don't have btw) is way off the mark. robbie414 - 1 Nov 2006 14:27 |
All the pleasant people relax in beautiful surroundings to dine and laugh the night away. The rest of us crush in to the other bar waiting for a seat which will never appear. The beers are so-so, but the barmaids are gorgeous, something I will impress upon my girlfriend should I ever fancy a trip to Lichfield A&E (where fittingly, the staff nurse is also gorgeous) londinieres - 9 Sep 2006 20:50 |
