We thought that we would give this pub another chance after it was taken over by Butcombe. Previously we had experienced very poor customer service from sullen, moody and unknowledgable staff. This time we hoped for better. No such luck. Service (when someone actually arrived to take our order) was plain rude. The barmaid seemed more interested in her telephone conversation than her customers. The cola, pot of tea, cup and saucer and milk jug were just put on the bar and we had to request a tray!!! When it came to paying for our drinks , circa 5, we offered our debit card for payment. - We were met with " Needs to be over 10 to use a card". This put me in a very awkward position as we had no cash . After a long pause the barmaid said she could give cashback to make it up to the 10 limit. -This was not done in a friendly manner. I regularly frequent Butcombe pubs but this is one I shall NOT be returning too. Butcombe need to take a good look at this pub and sort out the poorest standards of customer service. Could well improve, as it has now been taken over by Butcombe Brewery. The_Final_Arbiter - 6 Apr 2011 17:02 |
Pleasant spot for an alfresco drink. Seems to be open all day, which is handy. Food is ok - not great but perfectly edible. I've only eaten here once, sunday pm a few weeks ago. Very busy, but the staff coped and seemed perfectly pleasant. MrBlue - 15 May 2009 14:02 |

Great place to go for an early evening glass of something - particularly in the summer. Run by really friendly and welcoming folk. Sit by the babbling brook which flows under Mill. Indoors isn't very intimate because of large rooms. Family friendly. Haven't dined so can't comment on the food. Good wine list and lager plus real ale. anonymous - 9 May 2006 14:01 |
