This pub is under recent new management and is excellent, visited with family after event at ITC catterick and went back the second night with some more people. The food is very good and the chef is excellent, prices are very reasonable. Staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The beer was good (Black Sheep) and wine a realistic price not like some other pubs. I had the slow roasted belly pork the first night and the special the second (a lamb curry) both were top class. None of us (10) had a bad meal and we all left very happy with full bellies and a reminder of what pubs should be like. I would recommend this pub to anyone who wants a good meal and its just down the road from scotch corner services (less than a mile). A real find, hope they succeed as they deserve it. triumph7775 - 25 Jul 2010 17:46 |
Visited here for a Valentine's Day Evening meal. Being out of the way down a quiet road, we were very happy to find it not busy (we visited it earlier in the day to see if we would need to book for a meal). We were greeted on both occasions by a very friendly member of staff who was as helpful as she could be, to see to all our comforts. We chose to sit in the larger of the dining areas, on very comfortable seats and then decided on our meal choice. I had a starter of taglitelle with bacon and cheese and main dish of Lamb Shank + vegetables and chips. My partner had Pate with Salad and hot toast ( and yes it was hot) and the main meal of gammon steak with eggs, chips and salad. We each ate some of the others food as it looked so good. The portions are very generous and we really struggled to finish everything but it was so tasty, we managed it. I would give this Pub a 'good' to 'very good' rating on the food, the service, the amenities and overall congeniality of the hosts. It is certainly one we will look forward to visiting at again.... sues101 - 23 Feb 2010 23:12 |
They were busy so waiting for food was not a problem. However, when frozen peas arrive cold and watery, chips hot, but not all thoroughly cooked, and a pie that was mediocre - all for just under 10.00 per person we were not impressed. Add to that a distinct lack of couteousness and I'm surprised by the above comments of excellent food. It may have been an off day/change of management/chef etc but when we visit the village again we certainly won't be frequenting there again! Good luck! Infrequent_User - 1 Sep 2009 16:56 |
My god, what are you like , you're ratinga pub on your perception of it's class. Did you actually enjoy it ? Personally being a worker and so by your definition ;working class, I like it. Food is excellent and down the road is a really cracking Scots pine. mineisalandlord - 10 Oct 2006 00:11 |
