The Norfolk arms is a Joseph Holt pub set smack bang in the middle of Glossop in a lovely imposing building. Whilst feeling a bit 'chainy', it was overall pretty good. Wide beer and lager choice, friendly staff, decent food, and a good mix of drinkers. Part of the pub is given to diners, part bar (with plenty of space) and a row of tables with in-built TV's for the sport loving drinker. Also a large courtyard. Beers on offer were Two Hoots Golden ale, Joseph Holt Bitter & Joseph Holt IPA. Definitely worth dropping in for a tipple...

Report from Glossop Pub Crawl on 03.05.2014: Comfortable pub right next to the train station in Glossop. This pub was updated a couple of years ago and is very spacious. The Holts bitter was good. Very busy when we called.
|
called in here last night, since the pub was completely revamped by holts brewery it has got a lot better, very spacious light and cosy, three very good beers on from holts brewery all on top form.
|
Comfortable town centre pub. Well worth a visit for the unusual Holts real ale.
|
Comfortable town centre pub. The Holts beers were not really to my taste, but neverthless acceptable. Visited on part of a crawl and was starting to get very busy, so we moved on!!

Very comfortable clean pub. Food is pretty standard pub fare. The beer is generally very good, but it is Holts, so some would think it has a bit of an acquired taste. They have the Holts Mild on which is quite unusual, the problem is that it doesn't sell to well so unless the barrel has just been put on it's probably not at it's best. Definitely worth a try though.

Dirt cheap! Couldn't believe how cheap the Holts was and had cricket on in the day. Menu is a bit Wetherspoonish but to be honest it sells cheap beer, has sport on and is clean so what more do you want?

A very smart Holts pub. Had a bottle of the sixex which went down very well. Nice pub near to the station and close to the Star pub which is the best for real ale in the area.
|
Came from the Star Inn to get some food. What a disappointment! Beer very second rate, (IPA had to go back as was off), and kitchen shut at 20:00. Maple moon wasn't great, but staff quite helpful and polite.
|
A very large Joseph Holt's pub. Very clean and well kept inside. The food menu is supported by the specials list.

A visit to this pub last Friday lunchtime revealed that a pint of best bitter was still about 2, cheaper than elsewhere, and the new "Fifth Sense" at 5% was a very agreeable pint. Food seems to have gone up in price, but the helpings looked very generous. Recommended.

A refurbished Holts pub with their standard (good) food menu and well kept Holts beers. Handy for the railway station too.
|
Decent pub. Well refurbished. Good neutral place to go. Not seeen minors drinking or louts in there, think some old regulars are disgruntled with new format. This is a big pub and ideally suited to the modern format now in place, there are plenty of smaller traditional style pubs around too. Its good to have variety! Not tried the food yet but looked busy enough when I've been in.

A Joseph Holts pub without the Holts prices! Situated slap bang in the middle of town, ideally located for just about every lager lout that has been ejected from ASBO Corner. School teachers may wish to pop in to collect in the homework. Avoid!

Oh dear, since making my last review in 2006, things have gone very downhill at the Norfolk Arms. Yes, it's nice that they sell a good variety of beers, including the wonderful bottled Holts ales. However, and this must be stressed, what they have done to what was a proper pub is simply awful. This kind of thing does not belong in the middle of Glossop. The place feels now like it could be in Manchester City Centre. They have, I feel, completely wrecked a perfectly good old pub for the sake of "progress". Well they can stuff their progress, I will only be visiting for the Holts ales and spending more time in the many better pubs nearby.

Nice refurb. Good Holts' beers served at good value. Nice food although it is the "standard" Holts menu.
|
This pub has recently been extensively refurbished. Joseph Holts very reasonably priced bitter and mild are available in excellent condition, and the food is highly recommended and filling. The steak and Holts Ale pie especially hits the spot!
|
No pub charm - far too big what a shame!
|
Not sure why people have given this pub such a low rating - it's actually a perfectly reasonable public house with a good menu (improved since the new management), pool tables, dart board, plenty of seats, tables and seating areas, well priced beer at the bar... and all this in the heart of Glossop.
They continue to sell Boddingtons too - and at 1.70 a pint.

The best news about this karioke/fruit machine/young peoples haven, that has gone to the dogs since the days up till the seventies, when ballroom dancing was the rage in here at weekends --- is that--- wait for it -- Holts has just purchased it. They wilkl be doing their sympathetic gutting and refurbishing that they have done so successfully in the Greater manchester area and will no doubt restore the Norfolk back to its former glory -- with good beer too!!!

If you have a perchant for nice local pubs selling good VFM food and excellent beers from a selection of local micro-breweries or respected larger brewers then you must give this dump a big swerve.
However, if its a haven for chavs and lager louts your after, then i think you may have just found the mother ship!
Would avoid like a plagu
