Passed by to see on the off chance that this pub might have re-opened. But it's still closed and the exterior looks a little dilapidated. A shame, as Alresford looks to be a nice small town.

There wasn't a for sale sign when we passed, but the pub is still closed

Despite reports this pub is being sold, it is now under new management, experienced friendly couple. Good beers available. I look forward to the progress we need another good local in this area and someone who know what they are doing to bring this good local back to life.

Called in on a Saturday during the twice yearly beer festival and had an excellent and previously unheard of pint from the rack of barrels situated against the wall near the bar. Although the pub seemed a bit devoid of atmosphere, it was pretty full and a group were setting up in the corner so they are obviously doing something right.

Great Proper pub, Had beer on from both Flower Pots Brewery and Itchen Valley when I called in on a Thursday. Food looked good so we shared a diy ploughmans made up of local ingredients like rabbit, pork pie, cheese. Nice atmosphere and welcoming barman. Was even more pleased to see the pub had locale status and offers a CAMRA card discount on beer.

Called on the way in to Alresford end of May heading for the Real Ale train. Nice plain simple decor bar but quiet (2 in bar) for a Saturday night and compared to the Horse and Groom, although it was early evening.
Sat outside in the sun with halves of Green King IPA which was very good. I think it is because it is on the outskirts of town, although not far, that it was quiet but should be a good middle of the road pub for this (what seems to be a very polarised) town.

Visited on a quiet Weds lunchtime. Attractive interior but no lunch menu. Only two Greene King standards on offer. After a long walk from Winchester, I was disappointed.

Its a good pub this one. Having said I would return to other pubs in alresford I thought I'd give this one a go instead and I'm glad I did. Compared to the globe and the horse and groom it definitely has the most welcoming atmosphere and the best overall experience. Sat outside on my visit but had a look around inside and the decor and set up gives off a cosy feel. Staff friendly too. The car park is very convenient but it has a blink and you'll miss it entrance, my mate giving up after still not being able to locate it after a few tries. Good stuff.

On a recent visit to my aunts i suggested that we'd go out for lunch/dinner as i'd noticed a nicely presented pub on my way through to see her.
On arrival we were greated by friendly and well dressed staff who were only too happy to offer us drinks and see us through to the resturant side of the pub.
The decor and lay out was warm and inviting and the freshly cut flowers gave the room a nice finishing touch.
Specials were explained and easily seen on the board. While we were waiting for our starters, we decided to have a bottle of wine. There were many to choose from, all of which were affordable.
Starters came out and i was amazed at the quality and presentation. They tasted just as good as they looked!
Another glass of wine and the main came. Lovely, well presented and tasted great too. Vegetables were cooked to perfection and the meat melted in the mouth.
I was too full for dessert but my aunt managed to squeeze one in! She told me that it was 'delicious'
Coffee to follow which came in you very own cafetiere, nicley presented on a nice tray with cream and brown sugar.
All in all an extreamly lovley lunch, very well mannered staff and friendly atmosphere.
Would recommend to everyone looking for great tasting affordable food with friendly atmosphere.
Its taken me many years of dining out to give a 10 out of 10 but you guys deserve it.
Thank you!

Had the pleasure of eating sunday lunch here. Lovely cosy welcoming pub. The dinning area was bright and is laid out so you have plenty of space between the tables - there was even fresh cut flowers on the table. Good honest food - which makes a pleasant change. The food was served quickly and presented very nicely and the selection of veg was fantastic. One of the best pub sunday lunches we have had and really great value for money !!!! TOP MARKS !

This evening (24/11/06) I revisited 'The Running Horse Inn' and was plesantly surprised by everything that this public house had to offer! To explain this properly I need to give you some background... In 2005 I spent an evening with friends in The Running Horse and left feeling rather disappointed. The decor was tired, there was loud music playing, clouds of smoke and an unsettled atmosphere throughout. However, tonight I was amazed by the transformation that has taken place. Upon entering the pub I was greeted by smiles, fresh flowers and a non smoking area. Myself and friends enjoyed an excellent meal at a very fair price. An extensive choice of food was on offer and a good selection of wine by the glass. I would recommend the running horse to everyone!
