Greene king pub in fantastic setting with beach and sea views. We had great food... unfortunately the beer wasn't as good, so I've only marked it 5, when the food was worth an 8! I tried GK beera collada and Harvey's Sussex best (which I usually like), but just felt both weren't in great condition...

Clean, good beers, convenient location. Well worth a visit.

Where to start? Superb location, food, real ale, service, value and ambience, all down to the lovely landlady Heidi. As visitors, we could not have been made more welcome. Plans to go to different pubs the next two days were revised, to further enjoy this pub jewel. On a busy Sunday evening, we ordered six different dishes. They arrived together, on time, all delicious. Five plates emptied, one diner beaten by the volume. I chatted with Heidi for some time; she has applied common sense and hard work, to turn round a pub that was due to be boarded up before her arrival. Her pub deserves wider recognition; hence I have just written my first ever BITE review. Will definitely return to the C&A, on my next visit to that part of the world.

Visited last weekend during the annual torchlit procession - which starts from outside the Crown and anchor. Resulted in a wonderfully surreal evening as many from the parade ended their evening in the pub resulting in goths, pirates and highwayman going back and forward to the bar - which was busy with the annual beer festival . A great jazz and soul band kicked off at 9 .. After a wonderful Saturday night we (a party of 9 blokes in Eastbourne to finish the South Downs Way) went back to eat on Sunday . Great food (at reasonable prices) and excellent service at the bar now selling their cask real ales at £2.50 ! The landlady overheard that 3 of us had completed the SDW that day and stood us a round of tequilas - thats what makes a good pub great . Karioaki from 9 and the pub was really buzzing for a sunday night . This pub made our weekend and if you are in the area you should seek it out. I have been reading BITE reviews for the last few years but this one finally prompted me to write a review . An excellent pub - can't fault it.

Three beers from the Greene King portfolio. Decent band on a Friday night. Friendly, efficient bar staff. A happening pub.

Bar staff are stunning (girls) and friendley. live music was great friday and saturday night. I had a few games of pool with locals and its right on the seafront... I will visit again.. Plus what is important was the fact the the Fosters was cold and the froth stuck to the glass as I was drinking it. I didn't try the food but it looked nice. All in all I loved the time I spent there.

In the period September 2006 to November 2011 (5 years) the C&A had 8 variable reviews. In the past 3 WEEKS the C&A has had 6 very positive reviews of which 5 were added in just 1 week. What good advertising for the pub.

Great pub for locals and visitors alike. As a local I have seen real improvements here in the last year with friendly landlady and staff, it is always 'service with a smile' here. Love the new menu and the food, whether you are a small party or a larger crowd the choice is abundant with excellent portions and all at restaurant quality and fairly priced too. Just about the only seafront pub in Eastbourne so well located to serve the many tourists as a break from the hotel bars (and their prices!) as well as locals enjoying a walk along the promenade. Whether you are here to enjoy a quick pint, a meal or an evening's entertainment you will be well looked after at the Crown and Anchor.

Great pub!!!Ive been working down in Eastbourne a lot recently and stumbled on this pub by chance, now we don't go anywhere else. The food is lovely and resturaunt quality, good beer, friendly staff and customers are good fun.Lots of screens for the football, even if you don't like football you'll get into it just by the great atmosphere, this pub is what a pub should be and I'll be going back again.

I first started coming here in March 2011 after moving to the area. I can honestly say that in my opinion this is the best pub in the area. The landlady and staff are all really friendly, the drinks are fairly priced and every time I've eaten here i could not find fault with the food, it comes out quickly and I've never gone hungry! i enjoy the availability of two dart boards and two pool tables which is something thats sadly lacking in many other places in the area. Thoroughly recommended for all, you wont regret it!

As a student in Eastbourne it is always a pleasure to frequent the Crown and Anchor Pub. A traditional English pub with a mixture of people, both young and old all having a good time. I have spent many an evening playing pool, watching football and enjoying the friendly atmosphere. Tuesday nights are free pool and free jukebox - always a popular night with many people. The weekends always has the major football games live on the big screen and when the evening comes the pull of live music, karaoke, quiz nights and more on a regular basis make this the place to be in Eastbourne. The bar staff are always friendly and helpful and the landlady is a wonderful host who makes everybody feel welcome. Feeling hungry? Then save that appetite and tuck into one of the great meals that the Crown and Anchor put on - traditional english breakfasts, roast dinners with lamb, pork and chicken, top quality beef burgers and many more great food options. Fantastic portions that will leave you feeling satisfied.

I go with my young family & find it a pleasant pub. We have eaten many times and the food is served quickly, is plentiful and very reasonably priced. The barstaff are always friendly & helpful. They have guest ale beers and function room facilities. Never seen any trouble in the place. It is a stones throw from the seafront, which you might need to walk down to work up an apetite before eating. We reccomend it as a family friendly, proper pub, serving good food and beer. Go - make up your own mind.

This pub is where the lowest members of the gutter frequent, the bar staff are corrupt and if their is a fight, they will hide the video footage...this is true, the barmaids look like they crawled in from the local prison...keep away from the place!

Im the new owner of the Crown & Anchor Pub, Eastbourne. Over the last year we have implemented many changes; our kitchen now serves chef-cooked meals - from 12pm to 3pm and 5:30pm till 9pm daily. We also have a large selection of wines, spirits, lagers and ales served by our friendly staff. Throughout the year we are hosting many events in addition to this we also show all the sporting action from Sky Sports. To keep up to date on whats on - please visit our Facebook or twitter page @crownanchor_pub. We hope to see you soon! Heidi Lane, Owner.

One of the few pubs in Eastbourne that can just about qualify as "seafront", though it is on the corner of a road and next to the town's coach park. The Duke of Devonshire's planning policies ensure that there are few similar boozers on the front, though plenty of hotel bars.
It's a Greene King pub selling their usual range. Very little to commend it, but on the other hand not too much to say against it. Food available throughout the day.

Another month. Another manager. This has a great location on the seafront but is no different to any other bar in Eastbourne. Big TVs showing sport, transient customers and not particularly welcoming. When will this town get a couple of decent pubs. Not everyone wants a pint with televisions blaring football commentary.
|
Terrible atmosphere, unfriendly staff, nothing good to say about this pub at all. Don't waste your time!
|
Under new management with little effect. Loud TV and bar staff who are more interested playing with their laptop. Completely without atmosphere.
|
I think that this pub has been designed for the younger pub goer with 2 pool tables and a dart board in a large room with a smaller area for drinking and talking up some stairs. GK IPA and Old Speckled Hen were available alongside bog standard lagers. The barman was nice, but the pub was loud with no atmosphere.
I found it strange that there is a mural above the door saying CIRCA 1930. Surly they must know the exact year it was built.
|
Now under new management and showing the success.
