Awesome location, owned by Robinsons, nice beer, only had Unicorn myself but there were three on. Soiled only by careless bar staff, tourist trap but should care more and value the qualities of this special pub.

An odd one this...pleasant enough beer and a good range. Found the pub to be raucous and full of teenage girls wearing next to nothing, and this was a t 5PM! But that aside it was ok. My only gripe would be with the dis-interested barmaid called Sara, who wanted to spend more time talking to her colleague than looking at the queue of punters waiting to be served!

Interesting place as others have said.
I didn't try the food but the one ale I had was fine.
The staff were friendly and chatty, but it was an otherwise quiet time.

My local...even though I live over 80 miles away. I agree that the regulars come first but that's not a bad thing, at least for the locals! It's regulars that keep pubs afloat in these days of austerity. Great beers, especially the Double Hop and the food is excellent. Cumberland sausage and colcannon mash are to die for! Staff are very friendly even if they do tell us off for being too loud when the lads are up with me (Sorry Suzi, we'll keep it down!) Great place to chill out and get soused in on a quiet day.

First time visitor on 9th Sept 2011. Very nice pub. Enjoyed the beer and was very impressed with the food. I had the Madras Curry, which was by far the best I have had in a pub. It was nicely presented with plain rice, poppadom, naan, mango chutney and salad.

One year on, condition of the three ales (which never change) remains average.

Interesting interior and good beer, but the regulars come first at this time of year.

This pub used to be a great place but has become a vicitm of its own success. I would imagine that outside of the tourist season it would still be ok. But at peak times give it a miss.

Just been to the hole in the wall - we always pay a visit when in Bowness - however, today we were bitterly dissapointed, the food was simply aweful, the coleslaw was off, the oven baked spud was microwaved. My wife went for a ploughmans - again coleslaw off, nothing was fresh, the plate was not large enough. The staff were unfriendly, to the point where we felt it useless to complain, the picnic benches are old and dirty - there are far better places to eat in Bowness now - we shall not be returning.

Very Olde Worlde type pub (its about 400 years old!) with loads of character and ornaments to keep one amused. 4 Ales on tap, mostly Robinsons. Had the Lamb Henry on our last day and it was mouth wateringly good! Recommended.

Really enjoyed this pub. The stuffed animals are good to look at and you certainly won't get cold if sat by the roaring fires in the winter.

best pub in bowness.hartleys XB best pint around. try their home made curry .ten out of ten.

Good atmosphere, very friendly staff, good choice beers

Pub would appear to be a good mix of holiday makers and bed and breakfast owners. If you go later on at night and at this time of year [autumn months], the location may out you off as it looks too dark to be safe, but well worth a visit. Huge array of drinks on offer.

nice pint of Hartley's XB and daughter, founder of Campaign for Real Lemonade, appreciated their homemade.

My opinion on this place is biased by my dislike of Robinsons beers. Pleasant enough place but the beer.

This is a fine historic and local pub, often frequented by many holidaymakers. The Ale is according to taste, virtually always monopolised by Robinsons, which is not at all to my taste. A regular guest ale would be welcome.

Highly recommended for real ale fans. A genuine friendly local. Visited out of season when there were plenty of seats free, so unable to comment on what it's like in season!

Not a bad pub at all if you can get a seat, in fact an American friend of mine described it as "a perfect English pub" I wouldn't go that far but it is very traditional pub with low ceilings ang stone flagged floors. Most of the Robinsons range is on offer, fairly well kept. Gets very crowded during the season but you'll still get served fairly quickly. Good beer patio at the front and sometimes has live music. This is where the speed boaters (or ex speed boaters) tend to hang out so it can be a bit yuppified.

This is a medium sized, split level pub with a seating yard outside. Think: dark wood, fireplaces, animal head trophies on the walls. The beer, on my recent visits, has comprised a couple of Robinsons beers and Hartleys XB. Given how dull that last beer has become in recent years, the Robinsons Double Hop is the obvious choice and has been good. I have not tried the food because, after an evening kayaking, I've found that the fish and chip shop on nearby Fallbarrow Road has the nicest, firmest haddock.

We've been coming here for years !!! Start with a winter warmer(especially after scaling Helvellyn!)and move onto the cask beers followed by a nice malt! The beers are well kept, theres no loud music and the locals are friendly!Keep an eye out for the unusual taxidermy!!

A small lively pub, excellent real ale and always with guest ales available. A very warm welcome is given to all. Sit ouside on a warm summers night with the kids drinking homemade lemonade
