please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Enjoyable visit - right on the banks of the River Chess - so the walk from Ricksmanworth delivered me to the door.

Really nice courtyard full of a pre-wedding party.

Inside was quiet - plenty of tables, all with menus, but still had that low ceiling classic pub feel. The food - mainly Thai - looked exceptional. It was lunch, so I made do with a Tuna Sandwich which was great value.

As a Fullers tied house, I expected the beer to be good - but I would say this is one of the best ESBs I've ever had.

Recommended.

First evening visit and found it a lot different - much more a food venue than a pub. Those not stuffing their gullets with grub seemed out of place.

Still one of the more reasonable pubs in Chesham but it's poor ale selection is easily outshone by the (as of yet) unlisted beer Shop at the Market Place.

Fullers Pub of the Year 2013. It goes from strength to strength.

first off, i love how this part of chesham reamins an oasis. its a beautifull area in what is an average town. i swear most of the locals dont even realise it's there.

This pub is also fantastic. a genuine warm atmosphere in a lovely interior, in a lovely setting. Favourite chesham pub.

Really great pub - good beer, friendly atmosphere, normally lively. Quiz evenings on a Thursday are very popular

This remains one of the finest pubs in the area. I have been drinking here for forty years and not a lot has changed. The place is warm, welcoming and traditional.
There is a great selection of well kept real ale and an excellent bar menu and the landlady and staff are full of genuine charm and courtesy. An added bonus is that the old stable block attached has been converted and now serves excellent Thai food. On a cold winters day sat next to the open fire in the tap room with a pint is the closest you can be to heaven without dying.

An absolutely excellent pub which is the nicest within walking distance of Chesham town centre. The pub offers a classy atmosphere and is well-kept. The service is always friendly, and the pub boasts a pleasant beer garden. Ideal for anyone who appreciates a nice, quiet atmosphere when going out to the pub.

Consistently a good place to visit. Well mannered and knowledgeable staff. Offered taster glass of the ales on offer. Good ale selection and whisky menu. London Pride was spot on for temperature. Never appear hassled when busy. A credit to the team. Always clean and welcoming. Food is mainly Thai, from the next door restaurant (good, but nothing special for any Thai lovers)

Nice part of Chesham and a nice pub to accompany it. Didn't let it being a Fuller's house put me off. Old fashioned pub with Public Bar and other parts (though the public bar is a little 'faux'). Had a decent enough pint of Seafarers. Not birlliant but it is one of Chesham's better pubs.

Polite, quick service and a lovely pint of ESB. Not cheap at 3.30 a go, but looking at the clientele I doubt that will bother them!

Haven't been here for ages and regret it - great pub

The best pub close enough to walk to from the centre of town. Good beer, good food, special events, warm welcome, courtyard garden

A terrific pub. I have used this pub for 35 years and its always been good. An unspoilt public bar with stone floor, scrubbed tables and roaring real fire.
Fullers ales, breakspears are excellently kept. The landlady is very professional - she clearly understands the business she is in. Also there is an established Thai restaurant attached. Absolutely first class.
YOU MUST VISIT THIS PUB.

This pub has a really nice village location in an older part of town and is surrounded by a large stream. The interior has been kept in a nice condition, without the makeover that tends to spoil most old pubs. The only drawback is that the pub is a Fuller's pub. But alongside the London Pride, ESB and Chiswick Bitter, they did also have one guest beer - Brakspear Bitter. The pub also serves Thai food. I felt quite comfortable here.

Nice pub, lovely food at a nice price. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Good bar selection including a lengthy whiskey menu for the enthusiast.

Fabulous pub! Friendly and helpful staff. Landlady is lovely. Great food and good sized portions. Smoking ban has improved it ten fold and I loved it to begin with! Great community events including a charity bike ride and fun day. Just lovely!

Very good quality beer and great conversation with the friendly bar staff and locals. Easily the best pub in the town. The food is always popular although I've never tried it.

Still no change from the previous post. Excellent pub, excellent beer, good service, decent customers, what more can anyone want.
Bonzos_beard - 10 Feb 2008 21:15
Excellent cosy traditional English pub. A friendly welcome with pleasant clientele and very pleasant beer. The seasonal beer is London Porter which was very good indeed. Food was great and overall cleanliness of the pub was superb. Can't fault the place and would recommend it to anyone.

Visited 1 June 2007. Did not try the food. Selection of cask ale was excellent and serving staff were of the young student type, but cheerful and helpful. Served reasonably full measures as well. Not long to wait now for the smoking ban which will further improve this pub.

Really nice setting. It would be great if the owners had the stream cleared out a bit.

Beer was really good, decor was very homely and food looked good value. Yes, best pub in Chesham (the rest are just plain rubbish except the Swan which is a little way out of the town centre).
stevefarmer - 3 Apr 2007 18:49
The best pub in Chesham Town by miles, excellent Thai & British menu - I'm always loathe to recommend a 'Thai' pub but this is superb. Oh and by the way the Fullers & Breakspears are in tip-top condition to boot! Gets busy especially if the rugby's showing but is busy for a very good reason! 9/10

A lovely cosy pub in Old Chesham which serves brilliant Thai food. Defo worth going to if you like a friendly atmosphere, good bar staff and yummy food.

This pub is fantastic. I'm very surprised to see someone say the service wasn't good as it's always been great when I've been in. This is a true old style boozer that I wish I could go to more often. Thai food is quick, good value and great and the refurb has only made it better!!

Thought I would be the first to get in a review after the recent refurbishment. To Fullers' great credit nothing has changed - just redecorated and cleaned up a tad. Still the best pub in Chesham by a country mile.

A bit of a 'local' pub. After waiting for quarter of an hour on a quiet Thursday evening to be served I walked out. The place wasn't busy, it's just that the girl behind the bar didn't seem to know how to take a food order from a couple of increasingly frustrated people and a young boy was serving all of his friends before me, even thought they came in much later. I was eventually about to be served but then a pretty girl came in and was promptly served first by the lad.

To be fair I have made a couple of other visits but although the service wasn't quite as bad it definitely isn't a particularly welcoming place. There are better places in town and I won't miss this pub.

Wow! What a gem... Thai food in the bar or restaurant upstairs.. Basket of crackers & chilli dip fors 2... good food and range of drinks. Excellent service by staff who are sometimes under a lot of pressure due to the place being packed out. Neat outside heating & eating area in the back. Worth making the effort
Pedros143 - 25 Aug 2006 17:19
Def the best pub in Chesham - but plenty nicer elsewhere me thinks!

Thai food is OK.

Nice atmosphere (bit smokey at times though) - friendly locals.
jos - 16 Apr 2006 22:20
This pub is almost one of a kind left in Chesham. In the back streets of Old Chesham it has a cosy homely feel with open fires in the winter and very friendly locals to mix with. The thai food is of outstanding standard and the staff are always friendly and welcoming.
ahodge - 12 Apr 2006 16:50
really nice pub, best I've come across in Chesham by a country mile. Good atmosphere, not full of eejits, friendly staff, good service, excellent Thai meals, opens later. Thumbs up!
lobsterback - 23 Mar 2006 14:43
went down hill a bit very expensive smell of thai food
everywhere you will need your credit card or cash back
to go for a proper british meal. big-b
anonymous - 24 Nov 2005 12:03
Beer always fantastic as are the staff. Takes cards for Thai and drinks, I hear will be doing cashback later in the summer 05. Lovely pub set close to town centre in Chesham. Far enough from the local 'chav' drinking holes. Possibly the best in the area!
walkerjo - 15 Jul 2005 09:50
The pub is good. Nice outside space with umbrella's. It is in the middle of the old town, so no noisy roads.

Delectable Thai restaurant upstairs - and very reasonable too. Very authentic food.
lisadupreez - 29 Jun 2005 11:37
Fabulous beer and excellent food, both Thai & traditional English - well worth a visit!
cjfield1966 - 26 Nov 2004 17:14
Brilliant real ale (espeacially the Brakspears). Friendly service and very good Thai food.
G Russell - 25 Oct 2004 19:30
Fullers Pub, but also serves Brakspears. The Thai restaurant will use the Pubs facilities for credit/debit cards, but will not do cash-back. Alternatively, you can have a Thai meal in the pub. Try to avoid Friday and Saturday evenings when the pub can get very crowded.
Tony Keenan (friend of Paul Sweetland) - 12 May 2004 13:14
Nice friendly Fullers pub. Does good bar snacks and excellent Thai food. There is also a Thai restaurant (note this doesn't accept credit cards but the pub does and does cashback). Beer's usually good.
