After visiting quite a few pretentious Surrey pubs prior to the New Inn, walking in here felt like re-entering normality. Staff and customers were much more down-to-earth and prices were much more reasonable. 5 ales were on. A friend of mine was here a few weeks back and it was the same selection - Marston's The New Inn @ Send Pale Ale, Sharp's Doom Bar, Fuller's London Pride, Adnams Ghost Ship & Hogsback TEA. Nice location and one of the better pubs of my trip to Surrey.

Helpful, friendly pub willing to take a large booking at short notice when another pub let us down. Excellent food, four real ales of varying strengths, friendly service for both food and drinks. Poor quality TV picture; and some dodgy background music away from the TV; but otherwise a great pub.
Stowford Press cider at £4.25/pt. Nice enough stop on a hot day.
Nice pub, good range of beers and food looked good and was popular which is always a good sign. Worth a visit just to sit outside by the canal if the weather co-operates.
Rambling pub on Wey Navigation with extensive garden. Basically mealies for wheelies. That said, the beer (Adnams) was excellent and the food was reasonably priced with large portions. Friendly barmaid.
Pub situated on the river, worth a stop when on a walk or a trip of any kind. Beer is good, garden can get busy on a sunny day.
Five beers available - Pride, Adnams Southwold, Kings Brighton Belle, Doom Bar and Abbot. 3 staples, 2 guests I reckon.
Food was fine. Chips were really french fries, a common fault.
Landlady was quite confrontational about our boots, which were clean, but she insisted we read her sign about muddy boots, which we had already read. She then surruptiously inspected our boots as we went our our seats. She didn't smile the whole time we were there. The man serving ( her husband ?) adopted a similar non-humourous posture throughout our visit.
So beer good, food fine, welcome not much.
Nice pub my the Wey navigation. Quite roomy inside with a large garden which extends down to the canal. Ringwood, London pride and a couple of others on. Beer & food were both fine.
Pleasant location by the canal. Adnams Bitter (3.40), Ringwood Best, Pride and Abbot. Landlady said a Cottage beer was coming on later. Nice to sit out in the garden, inside looked smart. Decent pub.

We were visiting a friend in Woking and, Googling places in the area, this pub looked promising. Called in early (6.15pm) on a Tuesday for an evening meal. Good selection of beers, including one of my favourites, London Pride, and a very acceptable Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc for my wife and the friend. Very full menu plus excellent selection of "Specials". I had a chicken and seafood paella which our waiter said was a "good choice" - and so it turned out to be. Good plateful with an excellent salad and baguette. My wife had a fresh sea bream which, along with beautifully cooked vegetables, was pronounced "very nice indeed". Our friend had a lasagne from the regular menu which, although 'delicious' was just too much for her!
Service was excellent and the bill for the whole lot was very reasonable. Couldn't fault it.

In for restauration on Sunday afternoon, after a brisk-ish stroll up from Guildford on the Wey Navigation. I stopped at Bowers Lock for my lunchtime sandwich etc., and to wait for the National Trust lengthsman Thibaud, and the led walk that was to concentrate 'on water control structures such as weirs, flood sluices and flood gates and what makes a navigation different from a canal.' The first 'address' at Bowers Lock didn't give me much more than I knew anway, and as the 40-odd strong group moved off it was an ambling pace. I pressed on at a more moderate pace, stopping for photos, and meeting the owners and the hounds from Bowers Mill House (?) again - very friendly. A good draught of King's Horsham Best Bitter was most welcome, and the rugby ..... and a second and third even better, and a bit of chat with the locals. Very friendly, good and well kept beer ...... next time maybe get there before 3.00 and try some of the food.

My family and I visited this pub a week ago. We were visiting our friends, who lived just close to the pub, and we decided to take their dogs for a walk along the canal path. After about 1 hour we passed a pub called the New Inn and decided to stop off for a drink and lunch. We took off our boots and entered the pub. Nice Christmas decs with a few stuffed "Polar Bears" in the corner for a fund raiser. The kids loved it and we ordered drinks and food. Staff were very polite and pointed us to an empty table close to an open fire and the Polar Bears! Food was good, large portions and well presented. A good selection of beers and a drop of the guest ale was received with pleasure. All in all, a good experience. Freindly staff, children freindly, good food and beer.
We pop in here quite often and find the food is always good and the service friendly. In the summer it's good to get here early for Sunday lunch so you can get a seat by the canal.
Stopped on way down the canal. Good beer, excellent food. 4 people shared BBQ ribs and chilli nachos. More than enough for 4. All well cooked and presented. Service also good.

The new inn is located in Send on the River Wey. The pub is a nice "summer" pub however less desirable during the colder months. The inside of the pub has tried to keep the old English traditional pub theme going but is in desperate need of some tender loving care. The pub has a garden to the rear which sits on the river and is lovely to in during a summers day however be warned the sun disappears behind the trees early on in the afternoon. The front of the pub also has a small seating area which is situated on a grotty run down concrete patio with benches that all rickety and on their last legs which I feel lets down the pub being that the front of the pub is the first thing you see. The drinks are expensive 3.10 for a pint minimum and the food over priced and not very nice. Overall I would say that this was a pub for people passing by on walk who where in need of a drink to complete their journey.
A wonderful location right by the canal. A good choice of real ale which tasted great. The food very good and not too expensive. There was good choice ranging from snacks to large meals. My only criticism was the wait for the food to be delivered. It was busy but it would have been preferable if they had warned us when ordering. In the overall scheme of thinks it did not detract too much from a great visit a we were not in a hurry.
Stopped by the busy canalside garden yesterday evening, always a pleasant place for a beer. Good range of ales, and always an interesting guest ale, this time Cottage Hot Dog (very good!). Worth a visit.
Top chrimbo decs well worth a visit just to see the polar bears
I have to say I really don't know what the last few reviewers mean. I have always had a great evening out in this pub. The bar staff are attentive. Food and drinks are great and reasonably priced. The Manager has a great sense of humour and to be honest Rick Astley can eat his heart out as he has nothing on this guy. Me and my friends find him hot - but he seems to be a true professional. What a pity! The only thing I would say about this place is that it needs a bit of a facelift as the decor is a bit dated!
It can be a bit hit & miss in so much as if its busy you can have a bit of a wait but the food is always excellant and the beer well kept
I tried to get a beer here last Sunday. Queued for ages and then just as I was getting to the front the bar staff disappeared.
So while it looks like a nice pub in a nice setting I can't comment on the ales. service is shocking!
This pub is lovely on a sunny day it's not the cheapest but the food is great doesnt have the mass produced feel to it that some pubs do wouldnt hesitate to go back
Passing by boat called in for evening meal. Food was adequate but over priced. Beer on offer was well kept and served. Staff a little 'distant'.
AS a regular at the New Inn for more than quarter of a century, I feel qualified to have my say. The New Inn is a 'middle' pub. It has boozers (no surprise to me, I'm one of them), but it's not a boozers' pub. It serves superb food, but it's not a restaurant. It serves superb ales, but does not pander to real ale addicts alone. In short, it's a pub for everyone. This isn't faint praise. There aren't many pubs where you can relax, after a stroll along the towpath, with a pint or a meal, watch a bit of telly, enjoy a large beer garden (especially in the summer), all without listening to a barrage of swearwords, or some city boy describing his latest Porsche. It's a pub that grows on you. Pay the New Inn a visit; bring the family, and Gran, and the dog (and if you've got one spare, can you bring us a fit barmaid...).
P.s. Ask the bar manager to do his Rick Astley impersonation.

Yes, it's all been said really. This pub is fairly local to me and I visit fairly frequently. The real ales (always including a Ringwood) are always kept in good condition, which is why it's in the Good Beer Guide, I suppose, and the reason I continue coming. Also, in the summer, it is in an idyllic setting next to the canal. When you get to know the staff they are not as cold as they first appear, but I would agree that they do need to go on a customer relations course! Once last summer, one of the staff got quite heated and offensive when I pointed out to him that he had brought me the wrong meal! In its favour is the fact that they serve hot meals on a Sunday evening.
I cannot confirm this myself as I was not there, but a relative went to the pub last week and the service was shocking.
As she was leaving, she got speaking to a load of guys in the smoking area who said they worked for the landlord and the pub was brilliant, but his mind was elsewhere.
So there you have it. I want to give the pub a 10, but on the basis of one third party comment it looks like it needs to pull its socks up.
Common guys you are better than this!

Staff really let this place down - they stand around doing anything but serve! It's a bit expensive too but the setting is pure heaven
Lovely setting on a Summers day. Sit out side by the canal. As has been stated in other reviews staff efficient but not what you would call welcoming in their manner. Food is good although a bit pricey. Selection of real ales is always good.
i like this pub it's a bit expensive but the beers good and the staff are friendly and the locations nice to
.............called in here a number of times and really like the setting, nice mix of customers and perfect for a Sunday pint or a summers evening relaxation after work, the service although polite and efficient somehow lacks the atmosphere you'd expect to find in a lovely pub like this, I hope this to be taken as constructive criticism but a cheery greeting or goodbye would be a start plus the wall lights could benefit from a dimmer switch in the evening to help create the mellow ambience it deserves,
I have a suggestion for the atmosphere question - the lights are too bright. I sat near the front entrance in the dining section and it was a bit dazzling. Lower wattage bulbs are the order of the day for me. Food was good overall - the ribs could have done with being cooked a bit longer. Beer was good also. Staff were efficient but friendly. The telly was brought out for the rugby, which cheered my wife. It might have been a tad more professional if the two chefs were not peering over the bar at it though (the rugby, not the wife!). Certainly deserves better than the current rating.
definitely a location pub, exterior boasts good parking and tranquil canal side setting with plenty of Rosie & Jim longboats......inside is nice and traditional but lacks a certain something in the atmosphere
Found this pub by accident this afternoon. Beautifuk sunny day, sat outside by the canal. Good beer, good atmosphere, friendly people. I will be back
It is indeed a pretty setting, it is a bit on the expensive side and a little lacking in atmosphere, but worth a visit especially in the summer time
Nice place to take your parents, pleasant country pub
The atmosphere in this place feels warm and fairly friendly. Not too far a walk from old woking. There isnt much of the way of entertainment in the pub, didnt notice a tv here. However it has the feeling of an old tradional pub, with interesting decorations.
The beer range is very good, with a guest ale changing on a weekly basis. Plenty of other real ales as well. Tried a Weltons Beer (brewed in horsham) which was certainly in good order. 8/10
First ever visit from yours truly yesterday on the way back from Woking. The New Inn is a nice pub in an ideal location on the Wey Navigation canal bank. There is a good selection of real ales and traditional pub grub ( not arty farty gastro pub type food, thankfully )
A good point for starting / finishing a canal towpath walk, I imagine it gets very busy indeed in Summer and has a good outside drinking area for Summer drinking
In conclusion, well worth a visit if in the area
The best pub ever.
Tony and Janet work really hard making it work.
Picture postcard canel setting, good food and quality service make this pub a 10/10.
Keep up the good work guys!
It's a quiet pretty pub, always had good service even if the bar staff aren't really the type to stop and chat worth a summer visit
It's a nice pub to sit outside and watch the comings and goings of the canal. It is however very expensive and not overly welcoming.
Having read the other reviews, I expected rather more from this pub than it delivered. It seemed to be more of a restaurant with bar attached than a pub. Quiet (almost hushed) atmosphere. My elderly (80+)parents would like it because there would be little chance of them getting over-excited.
I would give it 6/10, except for commmercial radio (I don't listen to adverts and dumb DJs when I'm at home and see no reason why I should be forced to pay for the 'privelege' when in a pub. So 5/10 only
Good food, staff friendly but seem very reluctant to serve coffee.Cosy atmosphere but toilet facilities for men very basic and smelly and the prices quite steep.

Great pub for food or drink depending on your mood. Drinks can be a little on the pricey side, but are well worth it. Staff were execellent and the food tasted wonderful. Highly recommended.

A small, but cosy pub situated alongside a navigation canal of the River Wey, in Send. The pub has a large outside area, which is great during the summer months. Because of its location on the canal, it is used as a pitstop by passing boats. Excellent atmosphere, good food and plenty of good parking.
