Tichborne Arms, Tichborneback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Went in the public bar, dark wood interior, decor seems unaltered for years with some interesting old prints on the walls. My mushroom soup was fine, but the beer was disappointingly flat and the taste wasn't quite right

Lovely thatched country pub with a welcoming landlord. I only saw evidence of one of the dogs. But he/she seemed quite friendly to the other customers. There's a couple of stuffed animals and birds by the bar and other objects such as grandfather clocks create a nice drinking environment. There were a handful of customers inside with a few more in the garden to the rear. Has a good size car park. Ales are dispensed by gravity. They had Red Cat Bitter, Marston Pedigree, Langhams Hip Hop & Palmers Copper Ale. There was also a real cider I hadn't previously tried - JJ's Special Reserve, which was on the sweet side. Certainly one of the best 2 pubs of the day for me.

Vistited on 19th July with Mrs Monk as were staying in the area. Found it via the CAMRA guide and checked on the net. Excellent ales and food, very friendly landlord. It was steak night, so we had steak and chips complemented very well by Palmer's Copper which was superb, I also tried the Bowman's South Sea Spice, which was a subtler version of Marble Ginger, but very drinkable and refreshing. The other beer on was Summer Lightning so didn't bother with it, all are served straight from the barrel. And yes the dogs do stare at you whilst you eat, they don't beg and didn't put us off. Great pub, lovely setting, large popular beer garden especially given the heat, though we sat indoors to be away from the families with kids. 7.5/10

Ate here as part of a group one evening earlier in the year. Total disappointment: barely warm food which was average at best delivered slowly and intermittently. On top of this, we were subject to the landlady's dog begging at our table. When we complained, she said 'we're a doggy pub'.

Stumbled upon this idealic pub whilst on a visit to nearby Alresford. Sat in the peaceful, sunny garden for a few pints. The friendly landland pointed out that it was the day when they hand out the Tichborne Dole at the local manor house - a local legend that dates back to the 13th century when flour is handed out to the villagers. Didn't eat there, but the food looked delicious! Beers was served strait from the barrel behind the bar and Ringwood Best, Palmers Copper ale and Brakspears Special were on offer. Hope to return in the summer.

Alas when I made my maiden visit here in January 2011 I somehow couldn't find the pub on BITE so it missed out on the TWG-treatment (I'm sure t hey've coped admirably in the intervening 12 months).
Happily pitched up here again last week and contrary to my last emergence on a quiet Sunday morning, this was Friday night and the joint was palpably jumping, and thronged with probably every local villager in the surrounding few miles. Really, the Tichborne appears to be a solid, genuine, traditional and welcoming old pub that as has been stated before, must not be allowed to continue dying out at the appalling rate it is presently. When one finds a remote hostelry such as this in such fine spirits (folk music, fine ale, cider, jolly conversation), it becomes worryingly apparent just how much the local people would miss this community focus if it went. Hopefully, if they continue turning such pretty pennies on weekends they'll remain balance-sheet-friendly, although as many of us realise licensees can do everything right and still have the rug pulled from underneath them.
Anyhow, this oak-pannelled, warm and cosy place is worth the drive, even if ale quotients are cut. Actually beer-wise, Palmer's Copper was on as was Dark Star Hophead (the latter was very hopped indeed but I suspect a brewery issue not the cellarman!). But I couldn't quite see the relevance of not one but TWO Banks' beers being on?! Maybe a good deal, or locals request it, but to my palate at least this was a waste and a decent Hants beer would've done them prouder. But in fairness we didn't try it so can't comment on condition. A minor gripe all things considered.
Chalk this up as a to-do in 2012 pub but make sure you happen upon it when it's perhaps somewhere between really lively and empty! It'll then be easier to get the measure of the place.

Several pubs in the area do not open on a Mondays so after reading the reviews and looking at the overall score I decided to pop in. Steaders review is accurate in every checkable detail, this is thekind of pub that we are sadly losing. The owners make a huge effort to get every part of the pub as good as possible, faultless in every respect i'd say. If you don't appreciate dogs or perhaps like a minimalist look then perhaps it might not be for your taste. I like dogs and a bit of antique clutter. Probably a 10/10.

On the drive down the last few country lanes to this pub, it felt truly off the beaten track, though easy enough to find without needing a sat nav.
The location has a truly country vibe about it, winding country lanes cutting through field after field, and some manure on the road to boot. Definitely a far cry from the typical suburbia I was seeking to escape.
The pub is very warm and welcoming, and this started from the minute I stepped out of the car with some inquisitive dogs greeting me. A quick sniff of me and they were suddenly leading me up to the pub. I later realised they were building up a friendship, and going to leverage this to get some left overs out of me at dinner time. They only got but a mere few chips, as the portion was so decent, there was too many chips to finish them all off. My company and I had licked up every last morsel of our mains so none of that had came their way! The food was mostly good typical British pub grub, with some not so typical pub dishes, all of them sounding delicious. They had quite a few local ingredients available on the menu too which is always good to see.
We happened to pick a good night, as there were a few barrels in their marquee outside left over from a recent beer & cider festival they had hosted. There was also a fantastic selection of tipples inside too, all served by a very knowledgeable landlord and staff.
This pub was an absolute gem of a find, very friendly people and atmosphere. They even brought out some candles for us.

This pub has upped the anti. from now on this is the village pub that all others are measured against. from the initial veiw of the outside to the lovely different rooms inside including the fabulous bar with all the beer and real cider straight from the cask. then outside to the quirky covered decking area with bookcases and rustically furnished garden, I was completely blown away by this pub.10 out of 10 and I will be trying to buy it just as soon as I win the lottery.

Visited this pub during a sunny lunchtime and were able to sit in the very pleasant garden at the back of the pub. Food of a very good standard and prices were fairly reasonable - 2 very friendly dogs as well but not overpoweriingly so! Beer I tried was from The Flowerpots Brewery just down the road but there is a good selection in any case. Certainly will go back again.

We stopped here whilst walking the Itchen Way. IMHO the best pub for a long way. Unlike The Flowerpots in nearby Cheriton, the owners of The Tichborne Arms were friendly and didn't come across as if they resent non-locals. The ale and food were fantastic, tasty with a wide selection.

The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, the good selections of beer always well kept. On a sunny day/evening, the garden is idyllic - birdsong and gentle laughter - and it feels very rural.

Excellent, friendly country pub.On the expensive side(beer & food) compared with the nearby Flowerpots and beer served a little too warm on my last visit, but despite this, everything a country pub should be and well worth a visit.Easy walking distance from the equally excellent Flowerpots along the road or various footpaths. Dog friendly so take Fido.

Nice pub, nice location a good choice of 4 real ales cosy log fire and welcoming bar staff. Worth a visit along with the Flowerpots down the road
