The Tichborne Arms, Tichborne

On the drive down the last few country lanes to this pub, it felt truly off the beaten track, though easy enough to find without needing a sat nav.

The location has a truly country vibe about it, winding country lanes cutting through field after field, and some manure on the road to boot. Definitely a far cry from the typical suburbia I was seeking to escape.

The pub is very warm and welcoming, and this started from the minute I stepped out of the car with some inquisitive dogs greeting me. A quick sniff of me and they were suddenly leading me up to the pub. I later realised they were building up a friendship, and going to leverage this to get some left overs out of me at dinner time. They only got but a mere few chips, as the portion was so decent, there was too many chips to finish them all off. My company and I had licked up every last morsel of our mains so none of that had came their way! The food was mostly good typical British pub grub, with some not so typical pub dishes, all of them sounding delicious. They had quite a few local ingredients available on the menu too which is always good to see.

We happened to pick a good night, as there were a few barrels in their marquee outside left over from a recent beer & cider festival they had hosted. There was also a fantastic selection of tipples inside too, all served by a very knowledgeable landlord and staff.

This pub was an absolute gem of a find, very friendly people and atmosphere. They even brought out some candles for us.

The Regent, Walton on Thames

Regent is the only pub where I can guarantee a fight every weekend. Manky bubble gummed carpet. Sloppy food and service. I believe you have to have at least three tattoos for admission, one of these being a spiders web! There's no music, only a few fruit machines and the loo's are inconveniently placed right at hte back of the pub. The only thing going for this pub is cheap drinks and even then there not that cheap if you have to get your nose fixed at A & E.

The Anglers, Walton on Thames

The Anglers (my local):
I'm so utterly blessed to have such a great pub as my local. I think that the member, gtelforth, must be the kind of person that enjoys the company of the locals at the Weatherspoons, which does not say much for his taste in pubs.... Let me see... weatherspoons - No music, full of wierdo's, bar fight guaranteed, no class, 20 tons of gum on the floor and plenty of 14 year olds trying to get old before their time... You must be a barrel of laughs on a night out! Although I suspect that you don't get out much :-)

The Anglers has a fantastic employment rule for bar staff - fit chics only! The bevvies are great, riverside garden, nice location, LCD TV upstairs, upstairs is a restaurant/non smoking, nicely decorated and friendly atmosphere. Quiz nights and live music, quiz nights is an area that could do with some improvement (i.e. new quiz master!) and that's the only fault I coud say against this pub.
