Brilliant village pub, good food, welcoming atmosphere and dogs welcome. Cant talk about the beer but the Guiness was served properly and the Bar Staff are excellent and very friendly. Will definately be going back. We went on Saturday when the quiz was on and proper enjoyed ourselves.

Visited the pub for lunch with my husband.... fantastic menu and the hubby was really happy with the choice of beers so we stayed all day. Loved the character and feel of the place and will definately come back for more

Popped in to give this pub another go - DON'T - new managers have gutted the pub of all character and he is really quite rude - arrived 10 mins before the pub officially opened (front door was wide open so wondered in) asked for a coffee and was told to wait outside until the pub was 'officially' open in 10 minutes - left instead and went down the road to another pub. Never again.

This pub is in a great spot at the bottom of the Ridgeway. It is a lovely building. For me, it has always been second best to the Royal Standard, but that is now, very sadly, closed. I have always thought the Old Ship to be a good pub. My only criticism is that there could be even more real ale, particularly from small independent brewers. Happy to enjoy a pint there. Haven't eaten there for ages so can't really comment on that.

Unfriendly, unwelcoming, expensive - what a shame as it looks great from the outside. My partner sent his food back TWICE .......... what a shame.

We visited in the early evening A traditional pub but dont be fooled by the welcoming exterior. We felt that it was very clicky with a group of drinkers around the bar that made us feel quite unwelcome when we came in, a long silence & all of that!! There were some specials on a blackboard but it all looked dull & uninteresting. The fire looked welcoming. Dogs were obviously welcome!!! My wife felt uneasy in there so we left & went to the royal standard down the road for a drink. Shame

Addlestones on draught expensive at 3.10 a pint but well kept
Good range of cheap food
Free newspapers and amazing log fire
Unfortunately lets dogs in which I don't like when I am eating and also I am allergic to them so I didn't bother to eat there
Has live music some evenings

What a brilliant pub! We arrived as the kitchen had closed, asked if there was any food available, and it was! The food is great, the beer is spot on, the ambiance is excellent and the hosts are friendly. As we walked in, the mem and I both said "Our kinda pub". If more pubs were like this, there would be a better world!

Looks like the message below comes hot from the Old Ship Inn press office. If you're going to write your own reviews at least make it sound natural.
Good pub anyway though...

This is lovely country pub, in the village of Upwey. We recently held our wedding reception here, we selected partly because of it's location, parking & garden etc.. Mainly we chose due to the excellent welcome we recieved from the landlady Pam (A true traditional english pub landlady). Some of our guests chose to stay in the B&B accomadation at the ship, they had a fantastic stay in recently decorated rooms with a good quality breakfast. The food that Pam cooked for the reception, as she now runs the kitchen herself, was all first class, from canapes on our guests arrival, to fresh salmon & beautifal fresh homemade desserts. All our guest had a fantastic time and many have since returned there for lunch & evening meals. We heartily recommend this pub, be it for a quiet drink, a superb meal, or any event.

That's a good memory, Drunken Duck!

Visited Upwey in April 2007 and stayed in the converted School House Holiday Cottage for a week. Every night went to to the local pubs only to return here every time. I agree with Bjork, best pub in the area by far. Had a wide selection of Real Ales and friendly Staff although not over busy (but busier than most other pubs). Did not Eat here but we are returning to Upwey for another weeks stay this Easter so will definately be Back, but this time will give other pubs a miss and come here every night. I will also update this log on my Return. If any one reading this is thinking about coming to the area read my other reviews of pubs in the area, I am sure though you will agree the "Old Ship" is best by far.

I visited this pub today and lunched on a very well cooked gilt-head bream, washed down with a pint of first rate Addlestones Cider and probably the finest pint of Ringwood it's been my pleasure to imbibe.

I love the bar area and the garden - pity about the ugly restaurant section in the middle.
Food could either be improved a bit or reduced in price. The beer however, has always been superb.
A great traditional pub, and a well deserved 9/10.

We stayed in a holiday cottage last september and used this pub almost every day for food and drinks in the evening. The food was superb, even the steaks we had were cooked to perfection. Good choice of real ales, two log fires every night, friendly staff, what more could you ask. Best pub in Upwey by far.

Old building with some of the historical features still showing. Quite expensive and as it's so far out of town has quite a locals feel to it, although due to its good reputation for food it always seems busy.
