| Brilliant village pub, good food, welcoming atmosphere and dogs welcome. Cant talk about the beer but the Guiness was served properly and the Bar Staff are excellent and very friendly. | Popped in to give this pub another go - DON'T - new managers have gutted the pub of all character and he is really quite rude - arrived 10 mins before the pub officially opened (front door was wide open so wondered in) asked for a coffee and was told to wait outside until the pub was 'officially' open in 10 minutes - left instead and went down the road to another pub. | This pub is in a great spot at the bottom of the Ridgeway. It is a lovely building. For me, it has always been second best to the Royal Standard, but that is now, very sadly, closed. I have always thought the Old Ship to be a good pub. My only criticism is that there could be even more real ale, particularly from small independent brewers. Happy to enjoy a pint there.
