Ok its a chain pub, with a chain pub menu. Been there a few times when visiting the area, beer always well kept, nice garden and outdoor seating area, and food good for the price. Will keep coming back!

Considering Burley's popularity as a tourist mecca and the inevitable crowds on a sunny Saturday lunchtime, the staff were doing a good job coping with orders when we visited. Ringwood best was on as well as the standard Greene King beers. Food was reasonably good and surprisingly good value. No one in our group of 16 had any complaints.
The pub has a large patio garden backing onto the village car park.

Sunday Lunch was not brilliant. The Sunday roasts were all pre-prepared and not v good quality. Shame as other local pubs in the chain do deliver.

Nice large garden area for a decent summers afternoon.....
...inside packs out with coach party's from what I could tell......
worth a stop off for a pint!

Oh how things have changed from the last time I was at The Queens Head. 5 August 2007 I was truckerphil then. Went there on Sunday 24 May. The first thing my wife told me was that only one of the ladys cubicles was working and the the whole place was filthy, maybe we should haev gone out the door then, as it was we ordered "crispy" beer battered fish (did not turn out crispy then again only part of the fish was covered in it) Scampy both come with mushy peas (Dried up after microwaving). We also were told that there is a 1/2 hour wait. Fifty minutes later I had to ask where it was 10 minutes later it turner up. The scampy was only just about cooked the fish was bland and the long dark hair that was in the last part of the fish seemed to be the icing on the cake. In all I would not go to The Queens Head again then the landlord can carry on flirting with the Ozzie bar staff. Nice village VERY POOR PUB

Myself and three friends went cycling in the New Forest at the start of May 2008 and ended up having a drink and bite to eat in the Queen's Head in Burley. From the lunch menu we ordered two balsamic vegetable & goat's cheese wraps, one peking duck and hoisin sauce wrap and one king prawn and mayonaise baguette. Total cost was 19 (excluding drinks). I was told at the time of ordering that the wait would be 30 mins, as there were obviously quite a few people there for lunch. When the food finally arrived nearly 50 minutes after ordering it was a pretty big disappointment. *Both* of the balsamic vegetable & goat's cheese wraps were totally devoid of any goat's cheese - surely the most expensive part of the dish. The prawn baguette was not in fact a full baguette as suggested, it was half of a very modestly-sized baguette. The duck wrap was generally OK, but nothing special - certainly not worth 5. None of the dishes in fact were worth the money paid for them - the only garnishes were measly portions of lettuce. When the waitress came to the table to ask if everything was alright with the meal, I brought all of the above points to her attention, and she went back into the pub. Another waitress, presumably more senior, then appeared and upon desribing the problems with the meal offered us a complimentary dessert. I said I didn't want a dessert and thought that the meal was poor value for money. The waitress then disappeared - we thought to go and get a manager. But after a good five minutes she had not returned. We couldn't be bothered to hang around as we did not wish to waste the day arguing with people who seem uninterested in customer satisfaction. We won't be returning to the Queen's Head, and I would suggest you think twice about what food you're ordering if you're looking for value for money.

This pub used to be a favorite haunt of mine back in the late 60s early 70s. Then it was Watneys red barrel & awful Whitbreads. The upside was the fantastic live groups at the weekend. Recently I have visited this pub twice. On the first occasion my wife & I had a light lunch. Mine was a delicious Hot chicken & prawn sandwich. A week later we called in with our walking group, we had booked the small private room. I ordered the haddock. Unfortunately this was well below par & the veg consisted of yellowing broccoli & a single carrot. The Ringwood best was not at it's best. The staff were pleasant enough in a flitting sort of way. Overall the food was rather uninspiring. This is a shame as on our first visit the pub was very welcoming with open log fire roaring away. Our second visit was on the coldest day of the year & the fire was out. We have crossed this pub off our list of return too's.

Have just spent the weekend using Burley as a base to cycle around the New Forest. We were actually staying in the Burley Arms across the road and, although I believe it is recently under new management and they are trying hard, the place hasn't got much of an ambience in the evening. So we walked across the road to try the Queens Head. Can report that our experience was the same as the entry below. The Queens Head is a bright and airy pub with three distinct areas in which to sit and eat /drink as well as a central bar area (with real log fire) to stand by. I know November is 'off season' and our experience may not be indicative of Friday and Saturday's in high season, but we found the service to be quick and friendly. All the meals we tried were very good and the range of beers was enough to satisfy five thirsty bikers. On our visits these included two Ringwoods (Best and fortyniner ) and Green King Abbots and IPA. They did not have Ringwood Porter but this was actually on back in the Burley Arms

For the past five years our family have enjoyed Christmas dinners out at various Pubs in Dorset & Hampshire. This year (2006) we chose The Queen's Head at Burley, it proved to be an excellent choice of venue. From the moment we entered,we were warmly welcomed and guided to our table which was festively decorated, plus party poppers and high quality crackers. There were 5 courses on the menu for 44.95 per person. We started with an appetiser of warm garlic, chorizo and smoked tomato bruschetta with marinated olives. It was very tasty and just the right quantity, two pleasant waitresses efficiently cleared the first course and the Xmas Cracker debris, while the barman brought our wine in a cooler. Whilst two of our party opted for the Maple Roasted Parsnip Soup as their starter, I chose the Kiln Roasted Salmon Mousse garnished with a King Prawn. It was absolutely delicious and served with fresh home-baked bread & butter. Each member of our party had chosen a different main course, from the more unusual "Swordfish steak" in white wine and lobster sauce, to my Venison fillets served with a port and wild mushroom sauce, whereas my hubby chose the Turkey & Wiltshire Ham. My husband had not been well in the lead up to Christmas and though his meal was delicious he realised he would be unable to have it nor his pudding. Feeling a little embarrassed he mentioned this to the staff, who kindly made up containers of his meal and dessert even to finding a sealable pot for his brandy sauce. Coffee & truffles completed the meal, I can honestly say it was our nicest Xmas Day meal out. Previous venues had never quite ticked all the boxes. Our Grateful Thanks to the Queen's Head - The Service & Food was Top Class. We will be back throughout 2007 and certainly will be booking again for next Christmas

Believe it or not, it has worsened since the last report. It seems more spartan now, and is adorned with notices that are more restrictive than informative. When the kichen door is open it is possible to view a staff notice proclaiming that staff must pay for all food that they consume. It seems to sum the place up in a nutshell.

We visited the Queens Head earlier this year in the school holidays. We were greatly disappointed. We have used this pub for lunches for years and have had to queue to get a seat etc and the food was "home cooked" and delicious. However, this time it was nearly empty, most diners were complaining. The prices had been ridiculously inflated (food and drinks) and the staff were not very pleasant. This used to be a lovely pub.....it is a shame that traditional pub grub is no longer available. The rest of Burley is lovely and remains virtually unchanged in the years we have visited.

I have just spent a weekend in Burley and was more than impressed by the Queens Head. The place is fantastic, the menu great and the service unbelievably friendly and efficient, especially in view of the fact that it was an unexpectedly sunny and busy bank holiday weekend. Food was great!

A mid-week lunchtime visit proved to be very pleasant, draught beers were well kept. The food menu is identical to the George at Fordingbrige and the Fox & Hounds at Stapehill. The downfall of all three is the presence of a percentage of kids that lack parental control

The Queens Head, is situated in a place that attracts a lot of tourists. So it does not have to try, as the customers are always there. The bar is often crowded, and it is difficult to order drinks. Actually Burley, is a witches village with occult shops. In the Queens Head, there is no indication of any influence from this. Anyway, go to Burley and visit the witches shops. Stay away from this place though, as it will not raise your vibrations.
