The Queens Head, Burley
For the past five years our family have enjoyed Christmas dinners out at various Pubs in Dorset & Hampshire. This year (2006) we chose The Queen's Head at Burley, it proved to be an excellent choice of venue. From the moment we entered,we were warmly welcomed and guided to our table which was festively decorated, plus party poppers and high quality crackers. There were 5 courses on the menu for 44.95 per person. We started with an appetiser of warm garlic, chorizo and smoked tomato bruschetta with marinated olives. It was very tasty and just the right quantity, two pleasant waitresses efficiently cleared the first course and the Xmas Cracker debris, while the barman brought our wine in a cooler. Whilst two of our party opted for the Maple Roasted Parsnip Soup as their starter, I chose the Kiln Roasted Salmon Mousse garnished with a King Prawn. It was absolutely delicious and served with fresh home-baked bread & butter. Each member of our party had chosen a different main course, from the more unusual "Swordfish steak" in white wine and lobster sauce, to my Venison fillets served with a port and wild mushroom sauce, whereas my hubby chose the Turkey & Wiltshire Ham. My husband had not been well in the lead up to Christmas and though his meal was delicious he realised he would be unable to have it nor his pudding. Feeling a little embarrassed he mentioned this to the staff, who kindly made up containers of his meal and dessert even to finding a sealable pot for his brandy sauce. Coffee & truffles completed the meal, I can honestly say it was our nicest Xmas Day meal out. Previous venues had never quite ticked all the boxes. Our Grateful Thanks to the Queen's Head - The Service & Food was Top Class. We will be back throughout 2007 and certainly will be booking again for next Christmas
