i understand this establishment is again under new management & I wish them well. This Public House like so many others is an integral part of its village & it deserves to be supported.

Lovely new tenants at this pub. Toilets are now superb! Jayne & Martin are certainly working hard to turn this tired pub around it is now a fresh and contemporary place to enjoy a pint. Food is offered every day...lunch and evening. We tried the Sunday lunch which was freshly cooked with lots of vegetables and crispy golden potatoes. They have an Acoustic Jam night nice a week which we haven't sampled yet but sounds fun. Popping in for a quick glass of wine and a pint on the way home from the station there was a friendly bunch of new regulars at the bar which was nice to see on a Monday night. Hopefully the tenants will continue to improve this establishment and we shall certainly be returning for more roast spuds!

Under new ownership and been given at long last a real decent clean, still work in progress and Toilets next to be done but , clean , fresh interior - well worth a revisit

To lose one entertainment license is careless, but to lose two is criminal; what a card, two in every pack !

i must say i'm flattered by the latest review in relation to the 'Talk Sport' remark. In essence there are plenty of characters in this pub and the review is i'm afraid hopelessly naive in the extreme. Having spent most of my life in pubs this one has a lot to offer make no mistake about that.

Back in July, "Newshopper's" PubSpy gave this mediocre boozer a vanilla bland review, the local hack was too kind. When Will Parsons was in charge, the place became quite welcoming and homely, but the rot set in when he left and since February 2011 the decline has been terminal. Remember the failed experiment that was "The Long Hop" ? The same Doctor Frankenstein has been let loose two miles North, leaving "The George" without any competition. Sure, the staff are friendly and the beers not too pricey, but there is no character or any characters left. This pub is now UKIP incarnate - confused, sad, inadequate and shabbily trying to hitch itself to the latest bandwagon. If "Talk Sport" was a pub, it would be "The Railway Tavern" in Meopham.

Popped into this pub a couple of times last week. The first time it was about 12 noon so not very busy. Later there were more people present, mostly locals several tucking into what looked to be good food. A neatly laid out place with a collection of gauges on the wall and other railway memorabilia on show. Friendly landlord. Not a great choice of real ales, Materbrew and Bombardier. Didn't try the MB but the Bombardier was fine.

I have some symphathy with the previous comment about the landlady who would do well to remember that pubs are in decline and her surly approach is regrettable too say the least, not matched by the younger staff who put her to shame somewhat. That's the negative, the positive is that this pub serves exceptional courage best which can still holds is own as a good pint.

Have to agree with spudsi on this!! Went here just over 3 years ago,but i`m sure we are referring to the same person behind the bar! Despite the welcome promised in my local newspaper ad,this woman was the most hostile dragon one could ever have the misfortune to meet(short, very dark hair). She commented (sarcastically ) on everything we asked about. Sadly, her younger barstaff tried to be naturally polite, but it was obvious they were all in fear of her. Landlady made us feel like we were an inconvenience, and made no effort to be friendly at all. Waited ages for the food, after being told we couldn`t have the advertised offer!(no reason given) Why the bad attitude???????????? It beggars belief that people like this even go into the pub business. One pub i will avoid going to in the future.

dear anonymous.you are a particular sad and cowarly reviewer, the whole of this pub has been decorated internally since the new owners took over two years ago,so what ever are you banging on about! i assume you are the same anonymous currently reviewing the long hop,if that is the case then your knowledge of cricket and construction is also nil! get your self a life you sad specimen ! skibboy

This pub is one of the quieter ones in Meopham village. It suits the older generation who like to go for a social drink without the blasting of music or rowdy crowds. You can taste that they really look after their ales and the selection of wines is quite vast which is surprising for this type of pub. The staff are chatty and friendly, all in all, a very pleasant pub.

Unless you need to be close to the railway station so as to get home, this place is probably worth passing by. Its not been the same since 'the travelers' forced the pool table to be removed. Basically, its a nothing to write home about type of a place, that offers nothing of mention. The beer/ale ordinary to below par and its not seen a lick of paint in god knows how long! Prior to the smoking ban (not been in there since, not got any reason too!) it was very much a smoke infested unwelcoming arm pit of a place. I like the idea of kids bouncy castle (I read in one of the other reviews) in the beer garden, but when the place backs on to housing estate? Its got potential, but currently it scores a "could do better mark" from me. Read: Its certainly not the sort of place ya better half mothers would thank you for taking her too. Thus, does any more need to be said?

after driving for miles trying to find a pub i remembered on the green in meopham then finding it had been turned into some god awful italian restuarant we carried on going and found this pub but on my visit today the best i can give it is 4/10 my bombadier was cloudy but when i complained i was told no one else had complained so it must be fine i tried to explain to the less than helpfull barstaff that dull and cloudy real ale is not as good as bright and clear but it fell on deaf ears i left it and headed on to another pub. from previous remarks left on here i can only imagine that this is a good pub normally so i guess everyone is allowed a off day!!!

Hmm
Haven't been in the pub for years
Went once with a friend and it was the most unwelcoming environment I have been in.
Arrived in quite late (about 20 minsutes before closing) and the landlady's first reaction was to look at the clock as if to work out if she had to serve us or not).
Grudgingly she did and when I finished my pint she was pulling the glass out of my hand before I had set it down.
Given that we were not drunk (that was our first pint) nor shabbily dressed it was very unwelcoming.
Hopefully management and or their attitudes have changed since...

dear bigfoot,i find your criticism of this pub extremely harsh!i have drank in there on and off for 28 yrs,so i hope my opinion is appreciated! if my memory is correct the new owners took over about 16 months ago, what more can they have done to improve what has always been a great local village pub. there is a large choice of fine wines a great selection of beers, full coverage of all sports [in the back bar] i think you will find the tv in the front bar is used only for very big sports events. give the owners a break,i think they are doing a decent job! i tend to agree with the bishop get a life my friend !

Cripes Bish! I'm all for having a drink after 12. I might even join you one night, but I think this will attract the wrong crowd to the village. With regard to my previous final comment, I think the decor has been spoiled and I woudn't want to see the character and clientele go the same way. And please, can we leave Baaahbara out of this. Cheers

For bright and airy read tacky and impersonal. I can just about put up with the unfunny posters. The owners have to decide if they want it to be a village pub, or they want to advertise as they have done, for every neer do well and waster to descend on the village. They have also applied for a late license. Remember what happened to the Fox? And bouncy castles for all the kids to run around the place. To cap it all, a telly in the saloon bar! Whatever happened to a drink and a chat? One plusthe beer is excellent and the people including the owners are friendly. Sorry if this sems harsh, I just wouldn't want to see it spoiled.

This pub has just been taken over in July 05 from a very run down old mans pub where the beer was'nt all that. To a fresh, Bright and warm welcoming freindly pub with good home made food, and the real ales are the best for miles. You should give it a go.
