Currently closed for refurbishment - will reopen shortly.
tradervic - 27 Nov 2018 14:13
1st time in here for a long time, had a good pint of Guinness.10pm and there was only a handful of customers in.
hoppyal - 21 Jul 2015 20:09
Limited beer - just Doombar. Standard chemical fare otherwise (lager & guiness). Late on a Saturday night is well worth a pint or two - live bands & because the area in front of the "stage" isn't very big, it creates a good atmosphere.
Wilson_MacDonald - 30 Nov 2014 21:21
Drank here many times. Can't fault the place really, except
why don't O'neils serve Cafferys anymore, that was a lovely drink.

Masterpint47 - 12 Oct 2014 20:49
Guinness here is top class - and the pub is one of the best around. Friendly staff, good food and the Irish Times.
croydonpeer - 25 Apr 2014 10:31
still miss the old oneills of 6/7 years ago, when a sunday night was busy and always had good live music, with a lot of regular drinkers.still those were the days, enjoyed a very good pint of Guinness in here tonight.
hoppyal - 27 Jan 2014 01:45
By day like any other O'Neils with an average selection of beers and variable bar staff, but weekend evenings and its a great local venue if covers bands are your thing.

That and Sandra the hungarian barmaid is more than a little bit cute in a shy, yet cleavage-y kind of way.
Anonny_Mouse - 18 Oct 2013 15:51
Watched the football in here last night, a few pint of the black stuff which was very good.Nice clean pub, good service and the craic was mighty.
blackdragon66 - 30 May 2013 08:21
Very good time in here last night 10/10
blackdragon66 - 21 Apr 2013 10:49
good guinness, service and customers, well done guys.
anonymous - 16 Apr 2013 01:08
only 1 member of staff serving four customers. the barman was trying to serve more than one person at one time which i think...ultimately slows things down. but there ya go. The Brooklyn Lager had previously been out ...and i was informed again that it was ..out. When I complained that was the 2nd time it has been out...i was informed it had actually been taken off the menu totally. Why still have the beer pump uncovered like it was still on the menu then? seems pointless..and getting peoples' hopes up is stupid. my friend ordered the boarburger and paid for it. then a waiter came to the table and told us that was out too. he didn't offer the 95 pence change once my friend ordered a different meal. we were later informed that they'd had very little deliveries since the bank holiday which was quite a few days ago now. the 95 pence was not offered back.. the portion sizes for the irish stew were pitifully small for £8.50. we complained about this and were told by staff this was the standardized portion and that other customers had moaned about it. The manager dealt with our complaint brilliantly and refunded one meal. She was amazingly helpful and very effective. a good end to rather an average, frustrating experience
montymonty - 7 Apr 2013 10:56
always get a brilliant pint of guinness, bar staff very good.
anonymous - 11 Mar 2013 02:05
Good pint, good service. One of the better pubs in Sutton
blackdragon66 - 27 Feb 2013 18:17
Food in here is excellent.London pride ok.Me and wife stuffed.Service and back ground music excellent as well.
talesofthebar - 13 Feb 2013 12:39
What happened to all the proper good bands that used to play here before they turned it into this trendy looking bar?.
machiavellian - 21 Jan 2013 17:29
been very impressed with the quality of the guinness on my last 3 visits well done.
anonymous - 26 Jun 2012 14:16
in last night, had good guinness.bar staff were good and gave me a taster of the american lager.all the tap lagers seem to be around the 5% mark.mate from grapes was drinking heineken export. at 3.65.only had the london pride on .worth a visit, you will be pleasantly surprised.
anonymous - 13 Jun 2012 13:06
I disagree with a couple of previous comments, I can't believe i'm saying it but I do like this place for the first time in years. Curiosity paid off by having a look and I think it's good to see such a change. Well done and this will now be, along with the Bank the only bars I drink in along the strip as long as it keeps the riff-raff out.
makemineacold1 - 9 Jun 2012 13:23
This was a perfectly good pub before the refurb. (Unlike a lot of the pubs in Sutton.)

With the refurb it looks like it's trying too hard to be trendy. Which is a shame.
Muncher - 31 May 2012 08:53
WILSON WE WERE ALSO REFUSED ENTRY AND WE SHANT BE GOING BACK.
RUDE SURLY ATTITUDE IS AN UNDER STATEMENT.
cockneypaul - 14 May 2012 16:47
refurb didn't include the toilets?? unbelievable! that's where change was needed the most!
amous - 14 May 2012 10:06
tried the all new oniells for a pint last night, well they had 3 beers on which was an improvement, doom bar, london pride, and purity UBU,which i had at 3.55 and was an alright pint.sure the prices will shock the old clientele.been decorated quite nice, with bright lighting, but gents toilets same as before.had 4 staff on for the 25 customers.TBH cant see it lasting too long.wish we could go back 3/4 years when it was a busy entertainment bar,and there was a nice group of regular customers.
anonymous - 14 May 2012 02:00
now re-opened after refurbishment. Unfortunately, I dont know what it's like inside as my missus & I were refused entry - we weren't on the guest list. I can understand a private party on open evening, but perhaps they could have had some notices explaining this. Instead, I was greeted with a clipboard across my chest & a surly attitude from the management.
Wilson_MacDonald - 13 May 2012 17:59
awful, awful awful.was once the best entertainment bars in sutton, been on the decline for a couple of years.fast running out of drinks as it is run down for a refit.turning its back on loyal customers for a new type of bar.staff are the only plus point in this place, always been good.get yourselfs down the sutton arms for cheaper drinks and a warm welcome.
anonymous - 11 Apr 2012 15:30
Awful.
makemineacold1 - 10 Apr 2012 10:24
been told that the manager has been sacked here.was on a hiding to nothing really, taking over when sky sports had been taken out and music budgets cut.mind running out of most beer during xmas new year time wasnt good.guinness was good sunday, but not so good wednesday?
anonymous - 28 Jan 2012 12:29
first time in here for a long while, had a really good pint of guinness in here.is the same manager in here ,the one who looks through you and doesnt say hello.great bar staff on.
anonymous - 5 Dec 2011 01:56
HAD MEAL WITH WIFEY YESTERDAY FOOD ANDBEER WERE BOTH GREAT.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
cockneypaul - 2 Dec 2011 17:12
stuffed our faces here, me and mrs Den, the other night for 20. Decent grub @ decent price. Can't say fairer than that now, can we?
RamblinDen - 18 Aug 2011 21:04
Shame there's no real ale here, however, this seems to be the place locally for live music with an excellent line up of (mainly) good and sometimes great bands. Guinness is usually ok. Lager is lager and I still drink enough of it. Can be boisterous like any other town centre pub but well run and worth a visit for the music
RamblinDen - 7 Aug 2011 09:58
I sometimes go in here late on a Saturday night to catch the live music. I find it a lively atmosphere, devoid of the youth brigade in some nearby pubs. The only issue is the dire quality of the beer. If you like adequate guinness & tasteless lager, then it's for you. However, as a trade off for the music & atmosphere, it's an occasional sacrifice I'm prepared to make.
Wilson_MacDonald - 1 Aug 2011 20:35
Popped into oneills last night quite busy for a sunday night.
There was a trio band playing callled DAN MCCANN they were awsome. The beer was good, bar staff friendly well behaved punters
and excellent music.
Good night in all

machiavellian - 2 May 2011 16:31
shame there wasnt some more people here tonight for the band avarice, who were fantastic.come on sutton people come and enjoy the sunday music experience.
anonymous - 18 Apr 2011 02:01
was nice to see live music(adam temple) back on a sunday in this bar.seem to pull a lot more drinkers in.the guinness was a lot better.the barmaid is a fantastic worker.all made for a very good night.well done .
hoppyal - 28 Mar 2011 12:49
was in sunday, the guinness wasnt very good, and my mate said the carling was rubbish.not much of a crowd in. new manager needs to sort it.music on a sunday night always got a few people in.nice to see chairs not going up so early.come on manager make this place again the best pub in sutton.
anonymous - 8 Mar 2011 13:17
this place needs to get a new manager fast, was in last night, whole of the top bar had seats on tables at 9pm.went to play fruit machine, after 5 mins went back to my table to find seats on top.i give up.
anonymous - 27 Dec 2010 13:25
Congratulations these are without doubt the dirtiest and smelliest gents in the world. Was going to eat here but quickly changed my mind. Maybe change cleaners...or get one!
billtheboozer - 26 Dec 2010 11:50
A bit cold inside but the staff were very friendly. Also very cheap for an O'Neills but with the same (good) standard food and beer.
popalug - 11 Dec 2010 17:27
been using this place about 7 years.can someone tell me why the staff keep puting chairs on tables too early.sunday they went up at 9pm,thurs went to go in there at 10.15 pm and chairs were up near front windows making it looked shut.didnt bother going in.
anonymous - 5 Dec 2010 15:11
This branch is one of the better O'Neills i have been to. Have gone in for a solo drink once or twice and ended up there all night after being adopted by some randomers. The live music is generally very good and creates a good atmosphere almost like a house party where a lot of people mingle.
The Guinness is very good and excellent staff, very on the ball.
Captainshoe - 30 Nov 2010 13:17
manager has gone already.
hoppyal - 17 Nov 2010 16:30
was in here last night, much improved, guinness was good, had live music back on a sunday, was busier.new landlord was working both side of the bar, which is good to see.had a chat with him, very approachable, nice bloke, has taken note of the chairs on table .could be just the governor to get this pub back on track .the barmaid was very good too.keep up the good work, enjoyed my night in here.
hoppyal - 25 Oct 2010 12:14
NEW MANAGER WONT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE UNLESS HE IS SEEN IN THE PUB.
ITS THE ONLY PUB I KNOW OF THAT HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO PUT CHAIRS ON TOP OF TABLES @ 9.30 IN THE EVENING.
IF YOU WERE PASSING BY YOU WULD THINK IT WAS CLOSED .
NEW MANAGER HAS A JOB ON.
anonymous - 17 Oct 2010 18:58
new manager at last
blackdragon66 - 20 Sep 2010 21:27
been in last 2 sunday, guinness back on form.had music last sunday and pub was busy,no music this sunday and bar was empty.sky sports taken out as they wanted extra . 200 a month.
hoppyal - 16 Aug 2010 16:20
pub has gone down hill, even the guiness aint much kop now, feel sorry 4 the bar staff coz there great but the manager dont seen 2 care anymore.
such a shame coz we need a decent proper irish pub in sutton.hopefully a new manager can sort this pub out coz the prices are reasonable & in general pub has great atmosphere, you see quite alot of oneils regulars in the grapes now.
anonymous - 10 Jul 2010 17:21
what has happend too this place, went in last sunday 26th,the guinness was rubbish.others told me that lager hasnt been very good lately.the manager needs to start to take an intrest in this place.sundays nights use to be busy, bring back the music.only plus point is they still have some good bar staff.
anonymous - 3 Jul 2010 11:39
As despicable a concept as Irish theme bars are, I have a begrudging affection for O'Neills. The Guinness is normally good, you can grab a Caffreys or sometimes a Murphy's and you often hear Van the Man.

The Sutton outlet is fine although very fragrant very drunk old men do stagger around in here alarmingly early on a saturday.

terenced - 11 Mar 2010 13:24
As a chain, Ive got no problems with O'Neils, although never found them totally enchanting.
However been here a handfull of times, and the layout is pretty decent, feels like its got 'layers' to it, with a nice upper terrace if your visiting on a warmer day or evening.
I think this sort of place works better with a group of people having a good catch up other than maybe a solo drink or a couple of you, in which it has a somewhat gloomy feel to its visits.
the_original_rawnsleys - 11 Mar 2010 10:05
This pub has gone down the place is dirty, the loos really need sorting out. The staff are rude the staff start putting the chairs on top of the table around ten o clock which i dont understand as the pub is open till 11. You can get a drink at 11 but the staff want you out by five past. The manager is never around and the people he leaves to run the pub should get some manners i will not be going back and i have used this pub since it open
makeminealarge1 - 24 Oct 2009 12:53
I wouldnt normally even bother with an ONeills but since a friends band were playing in here, I felt obliged to spend the best part of an evening here. I cant say I was particularly taken in by the place although I have been in far worse town centre pubs on a Saturday night. The lack of Ales was half expected and the loud, brash crowds equally so. The front bar was particularly busy whereas service was easier to the rear of the pub although is a bottleneck where the stairs take you up a level. Some of the dcor, notably the dodgy stonework, looks like a cheap DIY B&Q job. All in all, nothing here to get terribly excited about if you have high expectations but that could pretty much sum up Sutton in General. Band were good though!
RogerB - 31 Oct 2008 13:39
Ok, but full of posties most lunchtimes.
baldyboy - 20 Aug 2008 02:59
If only it did proper ale, the pub would be near perfect.
Wilson_MacDonald - 10 Apr 2008 17:14
Was pretty quiet for a Friday evening. Ordered a pint of the black stuff, girl half poured it, then went for her fag break - great service love! It does have a good range, mind.
Fart - 31 Jan 2008 12:52
If you are over 30, probably the best bet at the top of sutton for a stress free night
Bobsmithswig - 7 Nov 2007 20:35
In response to Manikdc, I'd just like to point out that as O'Neils are the worst paying venue around, it's no wonder bands end up elsewhere. Remember also that the manager of the Sutton arms used to run the legendary Scruffy Murphy's back in the day!

I virtualy live in O'Neils and have done on and off for many years. It's easily the best and most reasonably priced pub around. Great atmosphere usually though since the smoking ban it has suffered the same problem as all the other pubs in that rather than the traditional smells of beer and tabacco it just smells of B.O, flatulence and sick.

O'Neils is deffinately the first call for live music in the area and they obviously pride themselves on that, not withstanding the recent attempt to cut it down though that move didn't damage them too much and I think they learned from that mistake.

They're not so big on bands and tend to favour buskers but although Alexis has been playing there since the year dot and is still yet to play a song through to the end, they do have some quality acts. Adam Temple for example is awesome and the guys that do the open mic are very entertaining. Shooter have made a few appearences on the occasional Saturday night too and that's always a good thing if you like live music.

The roof terrace is a god send for a smoker but does leave you feeling a bit segregated. A good effort though and to be apreciated.

A good place to be for a Sunday night to wind down and the food's quite paletable.

'Nuff said.
Little_Faust - 22 Oct 2007 15:23
Don't give up on O'Neills just yet! The best bands tend to be hard to get in July and August as they're on standby for weddings and special events. It's a busy time for them but i'm sure they'll be back to the A grade standard soon enough. Plus, Sutton Arms book a lot of acts that start off at O'neills. In reality O'neills don't have to compete with the Arms but they do need to stop the manager trying to poach all the acts. Better beer, value, food and atmos at O'neills!
Manikdc - 23 Jul 2007 12:07
Went in on Saturday night and there was live music. Trouble is it was one guy with a guitar and a drum machine and it was terrible. Definitely need to do better in the live music stakes. Thing is with only the Sutton arms to compete with where live music is concerned do they really need to as the stuff down there is bad nine times out of ten.
lazy - 18 Jul 2007 09:28
The live music seems to have stopped lately. Like the roof terrace area. Not huge but nice set out.
lazy - 2 Jul 2007 15:02
Only three things to say about O'Neils Sutton:
Coffee knocks your balloxs off.... 8S

Three refurb's and the toilets still look like a concentration camp circa 1940...

The live music is excellent. Perticularly "The Undecideds" (Pip made me say that)

anonymous - 8 Apr 2007 23:07
if ur lookin for a place to chill in the sun and have a great meal what beta than trying out oneils new menu whilst sitting out the back on the new roof terrace, had a meal their the other day was lovley food and service, will def be going bk again with friends.
lita - 28 Mar 2007 19:25
anyone know what they are doing for St Patricks day in here??
MrKennedy - 15 Mar 2007 11:53
recently been given a spruce up and is much the better for it. The lay out is better and the big screen has been moved to the window so the sunlight doesn't effect the picture anymore. They need to up the quality of the bands in there as the two i saw over the weekend weren't the best, they weren't the worst either just a bit standard. although watching the band on Saturday i didn't give a rats arse about the music as the female lead singer was very easy on the eye.
anonymous - 12 Mar 2007 14:41
Not a bad boozer, never seen any trouble in their and does a decent pint.... music is pretty good to

well worth taking a look...
anonymous - 27 Nov 2006 09:34
Does Alexis still play at this pub?? Does anyone keep in touch with the old crew from a few years ago?? Jack etc?
SCR - 22 Oct 2006 20:37
Nice enough pub can get very hot in the summer , live music is great when on

One of the better pubs in Sutton
Britishbeef - 25 Sep 2006 13:30
Not a bad place for a quick drink before moving on. Staff are all pretty friendly but the manager should pay more attention to the way his customers behave when they're standing outside the pub or hanging out the windows making crude comments to people walking by or urinating in the alleyway. and just in case he isn't aware, you're customers aren't supposed to be walking around outside drinking. i've actually seen them giving the doorman at long island aggro too while the manager stood there watching and let them re-enter O'Neils straight afterwards. Hope he doesn't expect any help from the long island doorman in future as i doubt he'll get it.
krypto - 19 Aug 2006 17:11
Too right. Jen does a bloody good job in that place...and as for a smile..how about you cop yourself on and she'll give ya a smile
1Boozer1 - 30 Jun 2006 21:48
well if u call 5 nites a week not regular, thats up 2 u.i agree the manager doesnt do much, ive used pub 4 years ,even when it was old green man and at least i put my name.
pj99 - 8 Jun 2006 16:19
PJ - you obviously aren't a regular in the pub. As a regular in the pub, I know how hard Jen works, infact she's lucky if she gets one day off a week. She virtually runs the place as the manager is rarely there and doesn't seem to care either. Any good points with the pub are down to Jen.
anonymous - 8 Jun 2006 12:53
O'Neills is is brillant in small doses, but if you like a bit of variety like my good self, it gets boring if your there all the time like I use to. Plenty of men there but not enough weird, strange and eccentric ones for me, so if you are a bit of a weirdo come have a chat with me, though i find it really hard to chat in there as its quite loud especially when your stuck near the speaker like me.

Im having my birthday booze up in there at the end of the month, everyone is welcome!

Rob and Martin rock!!!!!!!!! so does a certain other fella but won't mention his name, don't wanna give him a big head.
anonymous - 17 Jul 2005 17:19
Can't believe it, Gerry has left O'Neill's Sutton, this place won't be the same without him. He turned this pub into the best pub in Sutton.
anonymous - 7 Jun 2005 14:58
This is a brilliant pub, there's a really friendly atmosphere, the staff are friendly and you can always get served quickly. We always go for the live music nights on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, it's a good laugh. I also agree with 'Scott Robb', Gerry is a cool manager, he makes you feel welcome and always has time for you and keeps this place busy.
Serena - 20 May 2005 14:38
A great little bare boards pub that has excellent live music from Alexis on Sunday evenings.
palser - 9 Mar 2005 15:57
Oh wow, u HAVE to love the guy who does the Sunday night cover songs. What a friendly place to be drunk in too.
andrewjames2004 - 7 Mar 2005 13:45
Glad you like the pub Matthew, there is always a good atmosphere there, but as for there being no irishmen in sight, the manager is 100% irish and there are quite a few irish people who do drink in there regularly!
anonymous - 28 Sep 2004 16:44
The plastic paddiness of O'Neills pubs still grates after all these years- the '10 miles to Tipperary' decor, all the guinness memorabilia , no irishmen in sight, etc.etc. -but if you can put that to one side, this is a decent enough pub.
MATTHEW - 23 Sep 2004 17:25
Alexis rocks, and so do the people who play on a Thursday night (open mic night!).

This is the friendliest pub I've been to. It's got a real community spirit thing going on :-)

And Gerry's a cool manager!
Scott Robb - 9 Jul 2004 00:45
Great Atmoshpere, never any trouble, great for music, but would be fantastic if they had proper bands with real drums 'n' everything. Beer is always good, esp. Guinness. I lost my mind there years ago!!!!
Bald McCockney - 20 Jun 2004 06:24
Sutton O'Neill's is brill! The pub has always been good, but its looking great now after a big refurb and all new furniture etc. Also, it has a new manager Gerry, and he has made the pub alot better with a nice friendly atmosphere. They do floor service in there now aswell which means you don't even need to get up to go to the bar, its great!
Sarah - 16 Dec 2003 14:57
Nice friendly pub, good beer and the food is great. Get down there !!
E.M - 30 Nov 2003 15:45
top pub, some moody bar staff who may think they are someone special. Top landlord, also sunday league football team to support!!! Good beer, grub and company. Get down there and try it out
james - 27 Sep 2003 22:53
Alexis is the guy who plays sundays, he and the general atmosphere are amazing. Best night out in South London or the world, let alone Sutton
James Bruce - 13 Aug 2003 20:11
Thursday night open mic superb
love it
anonymous - 4 Jun 2003 02:06
Most Sunday Nights - Great atmosphere, good music & great Guinness
