For ales and civilised conversation (that need not necessarily involve football) this really is the stand out pub in the area. Only gripe is that it's sometimes difficult to see the selection of ales through the backs of people sat at the beer engine end of the bar. Otherwise the good Lord himself made this place for a tasty sup and a decent chat. At this point I'll confess to drinking 'cooking lager' everywhere else I go, reserving the pleasure of real ale solely for the Hope. Can we have the Brodies germanb wheat beer back again please?

A tea chest bass and snuff. How very civilised. JHB was excellent though my mates preferred Summer Ale. Still No. 1 pub in the area. Marvellous.

Still my favourite pub and the one I'm seen most often at. Crammed into this small, intimate and friendly atmosphere is a stage where most Friday nights and Sunday afternoons they have fantastic bands playing a wide range of music. A pub full of genuine music fans enjoying great live music, close up and in yer face. Occasionally they hold a jam session which is a massively over subscribed but not to be missed event. Pride and Timothy Taylor Landlord are ever present. Must confess to being a lager man here. Ales are lush but with my digestive system chaos ensues following (rare but much appreciated) sessions on the real stuff.
