What a great little pub.
Small bar area as you enter off the street with an open fire on the go giving the place a whiff of woodsmoke. Quite a few locals at the bar who were all very friendly. Hobgoblin 'Gold' on tap, which was in excellent condition at time of visit (off season). To go to the gents you pass through the pool room then up and down some steps to get to it.....a traditional 'urinal'..... very few of these left!
All in all the best pub that we found on a Looe crawl. Do go in if passing

Basic pub with a lively clientele. Good pool table(free when we were there). Can get quite rowdy when there is live music.
|
Not a bad place at all. Pleasant interior with fireplace, it must get really packed in here as it is quite small. Ale was fine too. A very amusing eccentric chap with a cloak and massive green shoes was at the bar drinking and chating to the locals. My only complaint was that the telly was on a little loud playing awful music.
7/10

Rejoice, it's open again.

Enterprise Inns, what are you doing??!! This was the best pub in Looe. In fact, the fact that its no more would make us think twice of staying there again. The owners were so kind and friendly. Tragic waste of a great pub.
|
Sadly this pub is now no more. The lease was terminated and the premises taken back by Enterprise Inns on 15th Jan 2013. A local told me that the lease is £30k and the rent is £500pm so there is little chance of it coming back in my opinion. Shame, it was one of the only proper boozers in Looe.

Myself & my family were walking past this pub on the evening of Sunday 30th September 2012 when I heard the live music coming out of the door. There was no way that I could walk past without nipping in for a taste of the atmosphere (even with my partner, 3 kids & the dog in tow) ! We had been staying near Looe for a few days short break from our home in Lancashire & had been enjoying a lovely evening stroll around Looe when we found The Fishermans Arms. What a pub !
The atmosphere was great, people were welcoming & a great pint !
My 14 year old daughter who sings & plays the guitar was even given the opportunity to sing a couple of her own songs to the locals in the pub who were very kind & polite & gave her a cracking round of applause which gave her a memory that will stay with her for ever !
Thanks to all involved for a truly wonderful experience !
The Newman family !

Lots of dogs. Cat on the tables. Parrot behind the bar. Slow service.Doom Bar reasonable . No locks on toilet door. Will give it another try.
|
Great pub playing great music. The bar staff are really nice and so are all the pets!
|
I used to have family ties with Looe, but if I ever go there for a weekend, it is the boozer of choice. The Fish is a pub where the pub-lovers go, and the emmets can go somewhere more packaged and plastic. Packed, hot, noisy, friendly, good beer, peatsmoke from the fire. Love it.
|
jesus wept, you whinging get, did you not like any pub in looe? better go somewhere else next year eh?
|
If this is supposed to be the best pub in Looe what does it say about the others? I popped my head in long enough to notice what a dirty, pokey place it was. Only saw one handpump which was appropriately dispensing the crappy Doom Bar.
|
Great comment below I love the place too. I am also an emmet but hope to live in Looe one day and this pub is the same as it wa 30 years ago when I visited as a child apart from you cannot smoke anymore

It is such a pity that there are still a few pubs left like this one and the Jolly Sailor across the river. There's no food and no pool table and no crap glitzy pop juke-box playing crap muzak. There is just great taped background music and extremely freindly landlord, staff and locals. Even Lucy is friendly once she gets to know you. I'm an emmet and I was immediately welcomed and enjoyed the conversation. If you're a tourist and don't like this boozer, you are a tosser and probably a founder member of the anti-smoking brigade who will only be happy when the decor has been changed to a chrome and glass plastic pub, serving microwaved fish pie or lasagne, before being closed down. Thank God for pubs like the Fisherman's who have no pretentions to be a fast food restaurant and are happy to remain being a PUB catering for the normal bloke who just wants a decent pint and some conversation, be he local or EMMET.
|
I love this pub and the people in it. Lucy was a feature here, but as already said, a little unsure of strangers, i was offered a taster of cheese with my drink from a local at the bar. (Nice chap).
|
great pub with a freindly atmosphere
|
let me count the ways i love this pub. fantastic staff, good beer, wonderful ambience, great friendly locals, nice dog(s) (hi bandit!), brilliant music on the radio. this isn't a criticsm but i think they're missing a trick with not using the back room anymore. come on landlord, it could be even better than it is already.

BEST PUB IN LOOE.
A real pub ... wooden beams and flagstone floor.
We went on a Sunday which is the best day to go. Tosh is quite a character and plays requests on his guitar.
At one stage, I'm sure we were the only non-locals in the pub, but were made to feel very welcome.
Doom Bar and Addlestones on draft.
Great little pub ... DO NOT miss it.

cheers lbw, haven't laughed so much for ages. you're obviously of a 'delicate nature' shall we say. don't take any notice of these ravings which seem made up to me. this pub is one of the friendliest i've ever been in.

Just returned from another enjoyable w/e in looe had a great time at our local "The Fish" everyone there is so friendly and i cant believe some of the comments posted the dog " Lucy " is so friendly but you have to give her a little time to get to know you (how would you like strangers coming up and patting you).Best pub we know and have already booked to go to Looe in 3 weeks and the fish is a big part of the pull.Steve and Jill

Bit wary as a tourist and having read coments here. Good real ale pub. Good crowd, mainly locals (I assume by the friendyly banter). Friendly atmosphere and very busy. My doom was superb.
|
My partner and i visited this pub on a Sunday evening. It was a locals pub and all were very welcoming to us. There was live music where people were invited to come up and play. Most of the evening we were entertained by 'Tosh' and a fiddle player who were absolutely brilliant and really funny!!
We were told that there is folk music during other nights but unfortunately we were leaving the next day. My only regret is that we were not here for longer so we could visit again.
A thoroughly enjoyable night in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere!!!! We will definately be returning if staying in Cornwall again i highly reccommend a visit.

Can I just say that lbw is completely incorrect - there is no way the people in this pub would turn him away for being a tourist they just don't do that sort of thing - this is a very warm and welcoming pub!!!!

There was a pushed-in face dog that scowled at me the whole time and looked like it wanted to tear my face off! Everything was sticky and the glasses had mouth marks all over them. I got my second pint and was told that would be my last because I'm an emmert (tourist I was told later) and I wasn't welcome in there and if I didn't get out they would call the police or deal with it themselves. Some of them stood around me and hawked all over me at length. I was scared and I left my pint and went next door to wash my hands and forget it. I will never take mother to a place like that if they threaten her I might have to sort it out. No food was available.

As per previous reviews - a proper pub with a fire you could smelt steel on. Locals round the bar discussing the quality of the roast meats from different suppliers.
Comfortable and friendly atmosphere that seemed to blend visitors and locals in together - a classic boozer. Excellent - and the Doom Bar was in good nic.
We did walk past on the Sunday night and there was a lively crowd enjoying live music - karaoke possibly .............. didn't go in so not sure.
|
Our favourite Looe pub. love the beer, hate the dog and we tolerate the locals if they will tolerate us.
|
Classic Dirty Pub.
Wheezy old dog hoovering up crisps, mental locals, every nutter in the village popping in, demented parrot in a cage, bogs worse than Calcutta, roaring log fire that hasn't gone out for 10 months, darts league, sticky carpet and the friendliest staff you could hope for. Get in there. For Christ's sake don't eat anything but the Ale is fine. Stay away from the dog.
A proper old school pub. Enjoy it whilst it is still legal.

tourists not welcome,but tollerated

Had a great laugh here on Sunday with the entertainment that was on. A locals pub but very friendly to all. Only ever seems to have Doom on but its a good pint. Strayed on to Guinness which was excellent.
|
Without any GBG entries for Looe this was a bit of a mystery. My partner selected this pub as she read that it was haunted. Sharps Doom Bar and Addlestones Cider were the two hand pumps. My mate and I were happy with the Doom Bar and Addlestones. We sat in the sun trap beer garden to the rear of the pub.
|
Went in last week, not very tourist friendly and only likes his own dog. Beer smelt of wet dog. Not my favourite.
|
I'm a "tripper" but have always found it friendly. Good beers, no food. Dogs are aloud as long as it is kept away from the miserable boxer. A great pub.
|
Keep trying it keep finding it very 'clicky' tourists are not really welcome.
|
No dogs allowed it says, apart from the two who live there. Tiny little pub full of smoke and real cider and the odd toothless pirate.
|
great pub. very, very friendly. only one gripe. get that pool table put back in, you crazy foo's.
|
Fantastic Pub. Popular with locals and visitors, great fire in the winter. Has music on Friday nights. A must to visit when in Looe
