Now called 'The Drummond at Albury' - and still a lovely pub in a small historic village. With friendly service, excellent food and good beer, its hard to fault the place - although a bill of £90 for lunch (one course x 4 - with coffees and drinks) seemed a bit steep. Nice pond at the rear, with a variety of wildlife. Will return.

I took 10 cyclists here for Sunday lunch today and it was a treat. We ended up being fortunate enough to choose a 'hog roast' day and it was absolutely delicious. We arrived at 10 ish to start our ride and the hog was already slowly turning over the oak fire (gave a beautiful smokey oak flavour to the meat), the very friendly manager (?) told us it had been on since 5 am. The service was very good indeed, the staff friendly and smiling and the décor and ambiance excellent. We will definitely be back. Book on a Sunday as it was packed.
Still grim!! Can't find anything good to say about it other than it makes the other local pubs look vey good, apart from maybe the Grantley Arms which is on par.
Courage Best, Hog's Back TEA, Broadside and London Pride (4.00!!!!) All dark wood at the top, stone below in restaurant area. Functional. Free wifi available.
Maybe she has finally taken notice of some of the comments on here, she certainly needed to. I can also reiterate that there are several others that I know can't stand the place. Poor excuse for a pub. SOULESS!!!
I am very surprised by recent comments regarding the landlady. She is a sweety ! and I have never seen her rude or offish to anyone. Indeed it would seem totally out of character as she is professional, always has a smile and has a spookily ( ? ) good memory for faces, what you drink, eat and like. All the staff at the Drummond are far in away superior to other local pubs and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place. Pop in on any day, especially weekends and see why it is packed and fully booked . All those people can't be wrong ! Whoever has made these rather nasty comments obviously has an axe to grind and should be banished to Weatherspoons ! If the perpetrator was in any way offended by something at the Drummond, then I would suggest that he or she thoroughly deserved it , probably a reflection of their own character, maybe an overly high opinion of their own self importance ....?!
Quite the opposite experience for us. We decided to go for Sunday lunch here as an alternative to the Percy and received excellent service from both the Landlord AND Lady. (Who actually came across as both welcoming and hospitable?!) Our dinner was superb with everything having been cooked fresh on the premises - certainly no microwaves involved! We will absolutely go again and highly recommend it.
Can anyone tell me if this pub has improved yet? Has the manageress moved on? I have spoken to a few locals who have found alternatives whilst the Percy Arms is closed and none of them can stand The Drummond either.
The Percy Arms is closed at the moment, so I was hoping to have a pint somewhere else. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THEY HAVE REPLACED THE AWFUL MANERGERESS YET?????
I had a quick pint in here last week, wish I hadn't. The same manageress was there again, this time customer side of the bar with the usual massive glass of wine in hand (number 1 priority). She gave the same condescending look. What an awful women. I am local whic is THE ONLY reason I would use this place, why would anyone with taste want to travel to go in here? Anyway I agree with zippy1975, I will definitely not be going back until I hear this person has gone!!!
I was really looking forward to having a nice lunch out in the garden next to the stream. Beautiful garden and had talked this place up to my husband on having passed it a couple of weeks before. What a pity about the very rude manageress. She really should get out of hospitality. We were made to feel like we should apologise for ordering a glass of wine and our food! To finish it off when my husband went in to ask where our coffees were, no apologies but simply asked do you still want them with a look that again it was such an inconvenience and then some excuse for black water was slammed down on our table. Such a shame this could be a really nice pub. We will definitely not be going back until we hear this person has gone.
I noticed my previous posting relating to the manageress have been removed, I do find this most disconcerting because what I had to say was very relevant in my opinion. I have not been back to the pub as people I know have told me she is still in residence. Anyway as I have said before, see my comments below. It is a real shame for me that I can't go to the pub as I am local, but I would not watse my money visiting this pub with such an awful manageress and rest assured its not just in my opinion!!!
This pub has much improved in recent years, it used to be very cliquey! In general the food is lovely and their portions are generous, although one in my party yesterday had Drummond Rarebit which was, to say the least, somewhat strange and with rather floppy toast! Apparently the pork belly was delicious! Definitely worth a try if you're passing or fancy a drive in the Surrey Hills - reasonably priced, friendly, lovely garden next to the Tillingbourne especially on a hot spring day! Also great inside on a cold winter's evening!
This place has had a recent refurb. but the furniture looks very cheap and tacky reproduction. It must be a managed pub!! I have not eaten here because it really looks like a 'Brakes Brothers' ready meal style place. The overwhelming minus point is the manageress. She really does think she is the bees knees, but I cannot for the life of me think why. She is never far away from her very large glass of wine and looks like that is her priority, to make sure its always topped up. Her partner/husband seems like a nice chap! they don't seem very suited. I know others find her aloof and stay away for that reason. Get rid of her, it would be a much nicer place!! awful women!!!

I really enjoyed this pub, though it is probably true to say that it is more a diner's venue rather than a drinker's. The staff were friendly and welcoming, there was quite a "buzz" around, and on a cold evening the roaring open fire was most cheering! The beer is kept well: London Pride, Adnams Broadsword, TEA. Great to have bitters served at the correct temperature rather than at lager-cold! The beers are complemented by excellent food, though if there is a large group dining in the conservatory your order can be a little slow. Only complaint: on one recent visit there was a small kid sitting at the bar and another running up and down behind the bar! Not adding to the ambience of a pub evening out!
Is more for eating than drinking but drinkers still welcome. TEA was good, Shere Drop has been good before.
Rural gastropub in a nice location. Unfortunately, the inside is now mainly set out for diners. There are plenty of tables and seating available. Courage Best, Deuchars IPA and Adnams Broadside were the 3 real ales on. The Hogsback Tea pumpclip was turned around. Aspalls is the cider. May be a good option if you are dining. But we were looking for proper pubs.
Place has been refurbished since my last visit, now more restaurant than pub. They seem to have more room now, plenty of space both in and out. Four real ales on, Pride, Adnams, Surrey Hills and something else. The Pride and Shere drop were fine. Food was OK, the "Drummond rarebit" was described as "odd" but everything served up got eaten. Very friendly & helpful staff.
The earlier comments about the cheese board appear to have been addressed. Had some today (as I always do when a pub has a cheese board!) Had 4 different cheeses, quince jelly, biscuits and grapes. Excellent.
Staff very friendly and service acceptable. Shere Drop Bitter right on form and the refurb done tastefully.
As I'm a Londoner with access to competitive pricing it did not seem to me to be excessive.
As said elswhere - great location - driving over the wooden bridge to the overflow car park scary in a longer vehicle!
The recent refurb has resulted in an even smarter pub than before. I didn't think it was that long since an ealier refurb? It's not really a drinking pub by any stretch of the imagination but what they've done, they've done very well. The real ale is good and the menu is good, not too extensive (generally a good sign as it suggests a pub is not microwave dependent!) but not showing a huge amount of flair compared with some gastro pubs (e.g. Black Swan at Ockham). The staff were friendly. They must be doing something right as the place was quite busy.
This is a fantastic pub. Not only is it in a lovely setting with a stream running at the end of the beer garden the food is great to and reasonably priced and sourced locally. The bar staff are extremely polite, cheerful and helpful. They also offer accommodation which I would love to stay in and one day I will. The train station is about fifteen minutes away so no need to drive if going out for more than one. I would highly recommend this pub it certainly deserves a visit.
as of yet not had a good meal in the Drummond arms, the portions are megar esp cheese board 3 slithers of chedder plus minute portions of other cheeses cheap old buiscuites, prices high, as the the pub had been renovated we recomeded a relative to stay their, they were very unhappy the rooms were not up to the high price charged, breakfast they ordered bacon and scramble eggs , the eggs came but no bacon on enquiring where it was told it was coming who the hell serves eggs with no bacon, a news paper was requseted which did not arrive, and on leaving it was noticed the staff were sitting reading them, its so sad as the location is beautiful, but we will only go for a drink in future as the food really is not good at all , i did email the pub to complain but have not recieved a reply, i have to say the young waitresses were extremly attentive and great fun, about the only good thing i can say except for the location
This was always a good local untill a few years ago when they started mucking about with the interior and it started to change for the worse. They have now ripped the heart out of a lovely trad.building and we find it quite bland. You can`t take away the location which is fine but all in all is lost its way. A couple of real ales on which were just above average food looks alright . Gone from 8/10 to 5/10.
ps Alwayslocal did you serve us on our visit ???????

It's just re opened after a MAJOR refit
Great atmosphere and decor, loads of staff and appears to be under newish management. Ultra friendly, welcoming, efficient and great hosts .
Big menu and wine list, local meat, bread and veg suppliers. All good stuff.
Lots of room now for dining, bar meals, visitors and locals alike.
The riverside garden is a treat on nice days to have a beer, a meal, watch the trout and ducks on the river. Children and ( well behaved ) dog friendly
They now do food ALL day long from 8am Fishermen's breakfast, lunches, afternooon menu, full restaurant menu.
10 rooms I think which were very busy last time I was there.
All in all a great improvement and lovely to see a young couple making a success of what was an old and tired pub before. I wish them every success. Judging by the packed car park at the weekend this will surely follow
We will be back soon !!

Currently closed for building work. Due to open by mid / end April 2010...
Currently closed and completely gutted for a major refurbishment.
Revisited after a long absence and found this pub has improved with new tenants Pluses - The friendliest welcome possible! A proper fire burning in the grate. A good mix of locals and visitors. Interesting and varied menu. Good beer. Garden by river nice in summer Minuses - food service very slow. Food only average quality for the prices(fried eggs overcooked). A bit cluttered and uncomfortable inside. Lots of wasted space in under-utilised restaurant area.
This is a hotel with 6 or so rooms, but don't let that put you off. An attractive waterside location (for summer!) complete with ducks. The exterior canopy protected a large BBQ and tables for those warmer days not early Feb as was our visit. Plenty of parking spaces. A rather uninteresting choice of London Pride and Courage Best so opted for the Shere once connected. Sofas and tables in bar area (dogs allowed) with an extra conservatory with more tables serving very nice food, doing 2 courses for 15. Fabulous rich pudds. Great walking area &
Called in for a swift pint or two, 3 real ales on, all on good form.Food looked good did not eat this time round,Lovely garden sat watching the ducks do what ducks do.Will call agin.
Walked here today for a pint and a sit by the river. Looks to be a really good place. Excellent Shere Drop on draught. Looking forward to this being our regular walking local on a Sunday - until the Percy Arms is sorted out once and for all that is...
The Drummond is under new management and what a difference they've made! We got the warmest welcome, the atmosphere was wonderful and the food was great. We can't wait to go back to our new "Local"
The riverside garden is a delightfully relaxing spot. Good value unpretentious food.
Called in on a nice crisp sunny lunch time sat outside shared my meal with the ducks and enjoyed my pint.Very relaxing.
Have not been in here for 2 years & how it has changed & what a shame. It used to have a lovely homely feel to it not anymore. The food has gone down hill, the lager was alright but hay ho.Where have all the locals vanished to, their end of the bar was empty. Nope bring back Den & Val i say!!!
Wow, new management and new feel to the place.
I think the decor everyone is referring to is the major refurb that happened at least a year or so ago now, not just the picture! LOL
I have to admit that the new couple are very friendly and welcoming and a definate improvement from the previous couple who didn't seem to know a thing about the running of a pub!
Great food, a party of us ate down there on Saturday and the week previous and all in all it was great.
Things are definately on the up! :o)
Not the same since Den and Val left.Lost its homely feel.
Looks like the Drummond Arms has new management in!

Was in the Drummond yesterday, food excellent and very large portions, beer in good condition.
As for not letting Dogs in what looked like a local/regular was at the bar for the duration of my meal with a dog, on a leash, and nothing was said by the staff and they actively welcomed said dog.
The staff were polite and attentative.
As to new Decor what new Decor? Nothing, bar picture behind the bar, seems to have changed in the last year or so that I have been going in.

I visited last sunday for a pint and the sunday roast. I must admit the interior decor is a little strange and whilst the range of real ales is good my pint of HSB was not the best. However we were all happy with the food and the dark haired waitress who served us was brilliant, she even stopped eating her own lunch to take away our empty glasses. Owners, please give the young lady a raise!
This pub goes from bad to worse. This is unfortunate as it is my local, but quite frankly I always go elsewhere. It is interesting to note that no one locally uses it, and they all use the William IV or the Percy Arms or ones a bit further afield. The service is simply shocking, the bar staff slow and rude, and the room prices are completely out of sync for the area. Lets try and bring back the traditional village pub for a man and his dog. Almost every other pub locally lets dogs in, so their health and safety blurb is absolute rubbish. Surely a local that isnt used by the locals has to have something wrong with it!
This pub is great. New managers, great food and atmosphere, friendly staff. Think locals want spit and sawdust! Only new decor is 2 pictures behind bar which most people love. Problem with some comments is that locals don't like change and this pub has changed.....for the better. 10 of us had dinner last week and it was superb.

Used to be a brilliant pub up until a couple of months ago but now the standard is really sub-par. People are made to feel unwelcome and a lot of the locals, myself included, just don't bother going in there anymore. Food is about average but expensive as are drinks. Service is without a smile
Was my favourite pub for years, still has a beautiful garden. Unfortunately seems to have downhill since new owners took over. New decor in poor taste - food nothing like it was. Shame
THIS PUB USED TO HAVE TO BE REALLY REALLY GOOD FRIENDLY WITH CHARACTER AND VERY GOOD FOOD THIS HAS ALL CHANGED....THE STAFF ARE VERY UNFRIENDLY, I DON'T THINK THE WORD PLEASE OR THANKYOU ENTERS THEIR VOCABULARY THE REGULARS HAVE GIVEN UP TOO. THE DECOR IS NOW REVAMPED AND LOST ITS CHARACTER ALL TOGETHER WHICH IA VERY GREAT PITY INDEED.

Went for a bar meal and a pint. Nice garden. However service was slow and food was nothing special. Would need convincing to return again.
this pub has excellent food and wine a delight to visit
