This pub changed hands a couple of months ago, and the new tenants are in the process of improving things. The meal I had was very tasty and excellent value for money, the wine and the Doombar were in top condition, staff friendly and efficient, and a nice real-fire too. I'd certainly recommend this cosy little pub to anyone, and look forward to my next visit.

The pub's recently changed hands, and is still finding its feet under the new management. I hope they'll make a go of it - I've spent some very enjoyable evenings in here over the last few years, and it would be a shame to see it go to the wall, or have to change its character in order to succeed. Good luck to them.

a real shame this place only in the way its a lovely pub but a bit off the beaten track and was empty apart from myself and two other couples(Tues 8pm),admittedly the ale choice wasnt overly ore inspiring (bath gem,a cottage brew and wye valley HPA)I offered for the wye which was perfect(2.95) The food although i didnt sample smelled and looked delicious,7/10+

Decent pub tucked a little out the way up a narrow hill, although literally just a minutes walk from the main Hotwells Road. Essentially its just all one big room, although there are a couple of segregated areas at the rear. The open bar at the front has a pleasant feel with old wooden floorboards, strings of fairly lights around the place and a candle on each table creating a pleasant ambience. There was a real (gas) fire blazing away which was a nice touch on a cold winters evening, although they could have done with a bit more heating on generally the rear of the pub had a distinctly chilly feel to it.
Look a bit closer and it starts to seem a bit tatty screws stuck out the wall where pictures used to be, that sort of thing. But its still a decent pub with friendly enough staff. Food is generally quite good and all chalked up on a blackboard although we didn't eat on this occasion.
Beers on tap were Wye Valley HPA, Doombar and Gem. Ciders were Addlestones and Stowford Press.

Recently visited this pub after a long absence due to perceived lack of choice of ale i.e. usually only Courage Directors.
I don't think there was much choice this time but what they had - Wyvern HPA, was superb. The pub itself must have new owners / landlords as the feel of the place is not a drinking pub for rugby types which I felt it was years ago? Very good ambience, food looked excellent and staff were happy, efficient and pretty (sexist pig!). Definitely make a point of visiting here again in the near future.

Only two real ales on, which was a bit of a disappointment but good atmosphere and the food looked good. Nice and cosy on a vile day.

Was in here a couple of nights recently, and enjoyed two of the best steaks I've ever eaten (one on each night!). I take the point about the 'reserved' tables, but on one of the nights we were there, they seemed quite happy for drinkers to sit there until the time they were reserved for, when a member of staff politely requested a move. All seemed quite amicable. A quiet relaxed and friendly atmosphere, nice bar and waiting staff, excellent food (much better than it used to be) and decent beer. A pretty good mix, all in all.

Decent pub tucked a little out the way. Food generally quite good and all chalked up on a blackboard although we didn't eat on this occasion. Managed to get a table ok on a Friday night, although it was about 9:30 so maybe some diners had left by then. A few beers on tap, I had a nice Gem, and they also do Stowford Press & Addlestones cider.

Beers , Breast , Pitchfork , g em , pleasant pub , nice setting inside , pleasant bar person . Good pub , did not encounter the reservation critiscism , possibly because in there about "T" time 7/10

Lovely atmosphere, pleasant and sociable, good food, excellent place for a chilled night out

Was hoping to have a meal after reading great reviews about the food however, every single table was reserved which i found a bit ridiculous.... so we had a drink and left! Reserving tables to that extent is something that you might expect for a restaurant and not a cosy, traditional pub.
|
I have really enjoyed coming to this pub for a decent pint of Pitchfork , but what is it with the recent tendancy to reserve tables? There were people stood at the bar drinking while tables around us were empty apart form the reserved signs. Message to LL - do you want to alienate passing customers and other punters who just want to DRINK? If this happens on next visit will probably start giving this one a miss...

Lovely, cosy pub with good food (lunch until 4 on Sunday), proper cider and local Bristol beer from Arbor Ales - one of the more interesting local breweries IMO.
|
This is one of the best pubs in Bristol, It has really good ciders and ales on tap and the food is excellent.
|
just been for sunday lunch...gert lush!! really nice pub, well worth a visit.
|
Good range of real ciders and ales.
Pub is tucked nicely out of the way, but is still easily accessible with a short walk from Hotwells or Ashton.
Enjoyable place, will be back. Well worth stopping for.
|
Excellent ales and really good value food that could be pricier giving it's location. Normally four real ales and Addlestone's cloudy cider. Well worth a visit.
|
Pretty good ciders and pretty good food. I vaguely remember a fair range of board games and the like, if conversation is a bit much for you.
|
Great "out of the way" pub with top food and Addlestones & Stowford Press ciders...nice.

Dropped in for the first time the othjer day, and was very favourably impressed. Pleasant, quietly relaxed atmosphere, helpful and welcoming bar staff, and good beer (though the first pint was better than the second - I think I was near the bottom of the barrel). I gather the food's excellent, though I haven't tried it yet myself. I'll certainly be back.
