One of the least inspired pubs I've been in. Never been a big fan of Holt's pubs, but some of them provide a good atmosphere and a good range of drinks. This place was dead and didn't feel like our trade was particularly welcome. Also despite clearly displaying 2 taps that says Mild at the bar, we were told they don't do the Mild. Unusual.

I doubt that the mighty Griffin will return to past glories. Holt's have killed the community spirit in the place so efficiently and effectively that they could be compared with the 3rd Reich. Congrats Holts! You clearly know nothing about the public.

Well you will all be glad to hear the landlord has gone. Thank god.

Having now read a few of the other posts may I add - Didsbury is full of eating establishments, so why ruin a traditional pub? The 'Kids' were all over 18 as the previous landlady was stringent about ID's and as they congregated in the beer garden they were never a nuisance to older drinkers. As a regular for 20 years, I can honestly say it was one of the few pubs I frequent where I've never seen a fight. The new landlords zealous approach to last orders are in stark contrast to most other clubs in the 21st Century. If you are looking for any of the 100 or so ex-regulars - they can be found down Burnage Lane in the Sun In September. Griff - RIP.

How to kill a pub - The Griff used to be heaving at weekends with a strong body of friendly locals and a good football flavour. Now it's just another plastic box with empty tables reserved for diners who aren't going to show up at 9.00 pm on a Friday night. You dropped a bad 'un here Holts and I expect it will be turned into apartments within the next 5 years. Tip to the landlord - try employing more than 2 bar staff to service 2 bars on weekend evenings or when there's live football.

Take by the last comment some body has took a bribe because you are talkin garbage the people who use to drink in their was just locals who have been drinking in this pub for years we are not talkin 1or2 but at least 100 plus who cant stand the landlord you must have blinkers on.what so these people are all drunks same as the city fans who no longer go in what about his last pub the railway didsbury they was all drunks as well . truth hurts

This bash the landlord campaign is becoming tiresome and is simply untrue. He is perfectly cordial unless dealing with drunken or yobbish behaviour. Like many others we're are delighted that the undesirables have chosen to drink elsewhere.
Review - We had a fantastic Valentine's special Menu yesterday, restaurant quality food for half the price you would pay normally. Whether eating or drinking (or both) this is a wonderful relaxing environment for couples, groups of friends or families. Spread the word....

this used to be a great pub untill the new landlord took over the guy is a total ass he has no respect for any of the regulars not that theres any left cant holts do something about this and transform the pub back to the friendly place it used to be GET RID OF THE LANDLORD NOW RIP THE GRIFFIN HOTEL

This pub is now presided over by an officious and obnoxious landlord who is doing his best to drive away traditional drinkers. If you choose not to eat their cook/chill or frozen foods then your custom is not welcome. Holt's have completely lost the plot here and cannot, if recent reports are true, be making any profit whatsoever. People are now drinking in other pubs in the area and moaning to anyone who will listen about the staff attitude. Amongst the few longer serving members of staff, the morale is rock-bottom. Why was this manager appointed? He totally abused the menu recently by ordering far too much food for him and his family, presumably at Holt's expense. The future does not augur well in the short term.

The Griffin used to a model of a how a local pub should be. Sad to to say since the makeover it is has become a model of how a pub should NOT be; largely thanks to the new landlord. He is very rude and agressive and seems to encouage his staff copy his attitude. All in all a hostile and unwelcoming place. Traditional customers have all but gone away but not replaced and it was sad to note a near empty pub the weekend before xmas where a year before it was packed.
I fear the Griffin may become another pub statistic which is very sad because there are plenty of punters who would love to go in but wont unless there is a regime change. I hope some at Holts recognizes the situation and sorts it out before it is too late.

They've given the old girl a new lease of life. Food is now very much being promoted but not at the expense of it being a proper pub. The wood panelling and the original features have been retained but cleaned up. The school kids are now no longer welcome and there is even a wine menu (which the staff seem unsure of!).
Few more pence on the beer but still a fantastic value boozer which oozes character.
VIVA LA GRIFF.

Brilliant, traditional, down-to-earth Holts boozer with a stunning glass-panelled bar. In my view the best pub in the Heatons.
Let's hope the brewery don't ruin it by turning it into a food house, which has been mooted.

Great traditional Holts pub serving well kept Bitter & Mild as well as the occassional seasonal beer. Varied selection of snacks and inexpensive, tasty lunctime meals. Good beer garden as well. I always visit when in the area. Best pub on Didsbury Road.

I wasn't born in the Griffin Hotel, but I wish I was. I would have my wedding reception here, if I believed in marriage!
We worked out that the beer is so cheap it's more economical to spend your evenings here than heat your own house.
That, and they have salt and vinegar frisps.
What a wonderful pub.

Ah, what a refreshing change.
A fantastic boozer than serves a wonderful pint at a wonderful price. Within walking distance from Kingsway (good bus routes) this delightful pub oozes character and style with a variety of features including it's monuments to Manchester City FC. The pumps are kept in good order and the bitter goes down a treat. Decent local people inhabit the pub and I'm pleased to announce that there are no chav's, no herberts and no 'one-times' to be found anywhere on sight (unless there's a derby on)
Best pub in Heaton Mersey

Great beer Wonderful old Josheph Holt's pub with an amazing bar After closing time, you don't get thrown out. A very attractive beer garden Sadly, a miserable landlady runs the place, otherwise I'd rate it 10/10! PS it is not a hotel!
