One of the least inspired pubs I've been in. Never been a big fan of Holt's pubs, but some of them provide a good atmosphere and a good range of drinks. This place was dead and didn't feel like our trade was particularly welcome. Also despite clearly displaying 2 taps that says Mild at the bar, we were told they don't do the Mild. Unusual. georgefox - 27 Oct 2014 12:53 |
I doubt that the mighty Griffin will return to past glories. Holt's have killed the community spirit in the place so efficiently and effectively that they could be compared with the 3rd Reich. Congrats Holts! You clearly know nothing about the public. macboswell - 8 Mar 2010 15:26 |
Well you will all be glad to hear the landlord has gone. Thank god. rsole - 2 Mar 2010 10:01 |
Having now read a few of the other posts may I add - Didsbury is full of eating establishments, so why ruin a traditional pub? The 'Kids' were all over 18 as the previous landlady was stringent about ID's and as they congregated in the beer garden they were never a nuisance to older drinkers. As a regular for 20 years, I can honestly say it was one of the few pubs I frequent where I've never seen a fight. The new landlords zealous approach to last orders are in stark contrast to most other clubs in the 21st Century. If you are looking for any of the 100 or so ex-regulars - they can be found down Burnage Lane in the Sun In September. Griff - RIP. kippax - 28 Feb 2010 21:53 |
How to kill a pub - The Griff used to be heaving at weekends with a strong body of friendly locals and a good football flavour. Now it's just another plastic box with empty tables reserved for diners who aren't going to show up at 9.00 pm on a Friday night. You dropped a bad 'un here Holts and I expect it will be turned into apartments within the next 5 years. Tip to the landlord - try employing more than 2 bar staff to service 2 bars on weekend evenings or when there's live football. kippax - 28 Feb 2010 21:40 |
