Our final stop of the day in West Sussex was the White Lion. The car park at the rear is very tight and with the pub's popularity, you may not get a space. We ended up parking way down the lane. Although our consideration to not block others in was later to cost us, as others drove in afterwards, parked with a lack of consideration and got served before us. Ales on were Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter, St Austell Tribute & Langham Godiva & Arapaho. The real cider was Mole's Black Rat Dark Fruits. The interior is quite small, with the main room laid out for diners. However, there are a couple of tiny drinking areas. We enquired about food. But, the only tables they had were in the garden. We agreed to this, as it was a nice summer's evening. However, after over an hour waiting for 3 burgers, the sun had gone down and it was getting decidedly chilly. On going back to the car to get some jackets, I decided to get it back into the car park. Although getting back into the steep entrance of the car park from this direction proved to be a little more problematic and I ended up grounding the car! Bar/waiting staff were very apologetic about the wait, as it appeared that our order had gone into the kitchen after a large party of 8, who were most likely the ones who had arrived after us in the car park! They ended up refunding the price of one of the burgers, which was much appreciated. The food itself was good. Nice village pub overall, only let down by the parking problems!

A late afternoon visit (one of a few over the years) found this pub welcoming and relaxing. Cottage Bristol Bulldog was sampled and in good condition and served well. Harveys Sussex Best and Fuller's London Pride was also on tap. Harveys drunk in previous visits has always been well kept. Worth the visit and no doubt, won't be our last.

My partner and I had a Valentine's Day meal and I had the Kobe beefburger as my main course. It was excellent and worth the expense. We both enjoyed our 3 course meals and Anne got a complementary single red rose, as did all the ladies having a meal that night. We thoroughly recommend this pub, whether you are eating, drinking or just socialising with friends.

A great traditional village pub, unspoilt and with a good atmosphere about it. I will definitely go back when next passing.

Very friendly small country pub that sells four real ales, together with the usual lager, cider, spirits and a comprehensive wine list. I can't comment on the wines as I am not a wine drinker but the real ales are well kept. My other half does drink wine and she says the quality is good There is no printed menu but the blackboard menu changes daily and includes many unusual items. The prices are mid-range but reasonable considering the freshness and quality of the produce used. This pub has the usual quota of "characters" but they seem friendly. Dogs are welcome and the pub has three of their own. Unfortunately, I am not a dog person but, nevertheless, we thoroughly recommend this pub.

I have been a regular visitor to The White Lion in Thakeham for several years. It is a lovely traditional and welcoming pub and it is nice to be able to sit in front cozy log fires in both bars. The food is excellent and the menu consists of a wide range of dishes including the locally sourced ingredients and the famous 15 Kobe steakburger, which is not often found outside of London. I definitely recommend this pub to anyone in the area.

This is a great little pub with a lovely "homely" atmosphere with friendly staff and superb food. They have Harveys, London Pride and now Doombar as their regular ales and then a fourth "guest" ale and the beer is always good and kept well. They also have an interesting new wine list. Dogs and well behaved children are welcome and the three pub dogs are very popular characters. Although the pub is a little out of the way it is definitely worth a visit as it is rare these days to find such a nice "old fashioned" pub with no loud music blaring out where you can just go and enjoy a quiet drink and really good food .

We are visiting the White Lion on a regular basis, great walk from where we live to the pub, and is our most favourite pub. The coffe is good, the beer is good and of course the staff are all great. The shame about this pub is: with the cold season they start their logfires. Then it gets really smokey inside. The Law has banned smokers from public areas but allows disfunctional logfires to fill the rooms with toxic fumes! The smoke gets into clothes and more importantely into the lungs. In this pub, sadly, the smoke is worse than 20 smokers would light their cigarettes all at once and this pub has small rooms.

Went to this pub for the first time after a recommendation from a friend. The kids' bikes lying around in the beer garden gave a bad initial impression as I walked from the car park but once inside things improved considerably.
Nice cosy pub atmosphere, friendly staff and locals, interesting menu at what I thought were very reasonable prices and well kept ale. England had just been knocked out of the rugby world cup but I had to try the Fuller's Front Row anyway, they also had London Pride and Harvey's Sussex and a guest ale called King John, which my friend tells me is very good. It had a porter sort of taste, which is not for me.
They allow kids, which is a shame when they become a noisey nuisance and they allow dogs none of which were noisy or a nuisance.
I'd definately go back again.

Built on a sort of cliff. Fond memories of visiting here for the bar billiards (none now, sadly).

A gem. Love this pub, park across the fields near Warminghurst Church and stroll through the Bluebell wood for a superb meal and a well kept pint of Duetchers IPA, plus a good chat and alls right with the world

a pint of Deuchars and one of Harveys Best, both very good, don't know about food but can vouch for the scratchings, very pleasant and attractive pub.

This is a really great pub for a quiet drink and some good food. No jukebox or TV so only chatter for noise. Worth a visit but suggest booking a table for food in advance.
|
Lovely country pub. Very small bar, might be worth ringing to check they have a table for food. Definately a locals pub with dogs running amuck, but very friendly with a vast choice of food and drink. Definately worth a visit.

Best quality pub food for miles and good choice of 4 well kept real ales - they always have Harveys Best on. My wife says the wine list is very good for a pub as well. Although the food must be what makes them their money it doesn't feel like a gastropub, muddy boots & dogs welcome etc. Nice paved area for dining outside if the weather permits.
