Another pleasant visit to this pub. Service was quicker than last years visit. Good ales on again. This spoons also still accepts the camra discount card which surprised me a little as other spoons pubs I had been in this year had only been accepting the vouchers. So that was pleasing.
Good banter between football supporters with no problems. Handy starting point near the football grounds and next door to the cricket ground.

Very nice looking spoons pub by the cricket ground. good quality ales on offer.i did like all the cricket themed painting and pictures on the wall. camra cards were welcome as well as the 50p off vouchers which was handy,so ale was cheap.
the service was slightly slow even though 4 staff shouldve managed at 11am in the morning..the pub wasnt busy at the time, but still a good visit and would happily return for a few jars again.

Like the last reviewer I've lived in Nottingham for several decades and the last time I visited the TBI, which was quite a few years ago, it was a bit rough.

JDW have done an excellent refurb job and for this midday visit the place was fairly busy with a mixed clientelle including some "ladies who lunch".

The Trent Bridge bitter was very good and I didn't have to wait so long I needed a haircut as in some other JDW establishments. This is now a pub to return to rather than avoid.

Lived in Nottingham for 47 years and never been in the TBI!! that all changed on Saturday when we popped in after visiting a couple of Castle Rock pubs in Bridgeford. Spoons have made a great job of refurbishing this venerable old pub, the wooden floor in the back bar is particularly impressive. Several decent real ales on tap as you would expect from a JDW. Can't remember what I had as the effects of the Nottingham beer festival were kicking in. The nasty lemon & lime girls beer was in evidence and we had to give a taster a try...Nasty, nasty, nasty, don't do it. Nice staff, decent decor, worth a visit.

Well, the all new TBI has reopened as a JDW house. And what a surprise it is. They've really gone to town on it and made it very nice inside. Lots of separate drinking areas, plenty of seating and a very good selection of beers available.

The usual good value but no frills food is there if you're hungry, but it's the building and the beer you really go for.

What a strange place! Tried to take my 17 yo and myself for a bite to eat in here at 6pm whilst enjoying a summer evening, only for my 17yo to be asked for ID for the coke i had just ordered?? told the barmaid that we were not trying to hide the fact she was only 17 which was why we had ordered a soft drink only to be told in was pub policy. What did strike me as very strange was that on our way back out (a little embarrased) there was a couple enjoying there pints with a childs buggy complete with sleeping child crammed in along side them!!!
Rather than question the pub policy thought it would better to leave, never to return.Cheers

I'm obviously in the minority here but I don't think the place is as bad as people are making it out to be. Yeah sure it attracts its fair share of rough and ready characters but I don't think this place is the world's worst. The food is good and the beer is well-kept. I sometimes pop in for steak and chips and a pint of bitter and it's always been trouble-free and relatively pleasant both at night and during the daY.

Popped in for a quick pint when rain stopped play at the cricket. Fairly busy with a youngish workers-lunchtime crowd. Seemed an OK mainstream pub on a busy junction.

Not a bad place and the reviews below seem a little over critical. In on Saturday evening and enjoyed a good few pints watching the Scottish rugby side march on to the RWC QF. Big place with quick and friendly service at the bar despite it being pretty busy. 4 pints for under 9 quid which is good value. Good mix of punters too, though they need to sort out the Gents loo - smelt appalling.

As a former member of staff i feel this place is getting a bit of a raw deal. Yes it has had its problems, mainly due to crap senior managment a dodgy managers more interested in filling their own pockets than improving the pub.
"Back in the day" it was a lively place which attracted locals as well as students and the 2 got on fine. After it re-opened in 2001 it turned over over 1 million in its first year. Sadly this was the beginning of the end. The owners dropped the prices and attracted the wrong sort of customers. Since then and until recently it has gone from bad to worse.
However, the recent re-furb has seen a turn around. The new door team (who don't run it as their own drug dealing den) have helped and despite what people have said here, it remains one of the cheapest pubs in the area.
Sadly, staff and managment try to do things by the book and refuse to turn a blind eye to things like blatant drug taking and violence on the premises, as is the case in some of the neighbouring pubs and bars.
It makes me laugh when people complain about the "type of people" in the tbi when if i go to any of the surrounding palces any night of the week, i guarantee i'll see 4 or 5 people who have been barred from the tbi and/or had to have the police called due to their behavior.
TBI = lesser of several evils.

This place goes thorugh a `refurb` every few years. Every time it is supposed to be `different`. Absolute rubbish. The place is a dive, an expensive dive, but a dive nontheless. I wonder if `pub` manangement chains think that by calling a refurb they can alter character and reputation. Eh? Perhaps refurbs have tax advantages i don`t know. The fact is this place remains unappealing and continues in the best tradition of `tacky and tasteless`. `World Renowned`? (Hmmm). Moronic doorpersons, ignorant barstaff, poor service, low quality beverage, high prices. Crap. Remains crap and will continue to be crap. Demolish the place and grow potatoes on the vacated land.

The trent bridge inn is a nice pub which is now under new managment and as been recently refurbished to give it a good look its a great forest supporters pub with a strict dress code enforced ! (all in all its is nice pub to watch footy or just to have a bite to eat!

It looked like a nice pub when I went in, but what I experienced was anything but nice.

There were no signs relating to any headwear policy, although I did not have a problem removing my hat when asked. The problem for me was that rather than come over and ask me to remove it, she shouted at me from accross the bar. I found this quite rude and rather embarrassing not only for myself but also my partner. She proceeded to order me take my feet off a stool in the same manner.

Were it not for the fact my partner had already ordered food, I would have got up and left.

Incidentally, the food, a simple cheeseburger, took more than 45 minutes, and whilst it was a rather poor bit of grub, it was the lack of hospitality that truly left a bad taste in my mouth.

One to avoid.

This place had vastly improved since summer, but i have a strange feeling it is about to take a rather large downturn.

And maybe it'll take higher management and their radio active food and "nitrokeg" beer with them.

FYI at one point higher management wanted to stop screening sport!!! a pub in spitting distance from 2 big football clubs, and backing onto a test ground!!! ha ha ha ha. that should be motivation for everyone, you don't necessarally need to know the 1st thing about ur job to work ur way to the top!!! (or possess commonsense for that matter!!

Oh well... all good things... etc etc.

Do not eat here if you are a vegetarian, although the food is nice when it finally comes I have ordered the same twice and it has not been delivered as per the description. In fact most recently I made a point of telling the barman how it should come, 40 minutes after ordering it still arrived WRONG!!!!.
Also how can a place that serves food run out of the most basic ingredients such as cheese.
I used to love eating here but never ever again.

anonymous - 11 Oct 2006 13:31
It has to be said, not my type of place. Nitrokeg beer and pretty souless. On my last visit had a bottle of some tasteless lager, one game of pool and left for the excellent Southbank Bar.

i'm not from notts but have been in the pub a few times with my fella, that was b4 he took over as the new manager in early may.

It was ok b4 but i'm sure under Karl's management it will only get better. he has a nack of turning pubs around. i'd like to say good luck to him and hopefully in the near future i will make the move from leeds and be a permanent drunken feature propping up the bar!!!

and here's a little known fact about the new manager... he's a closet snowboarder!!!! u wouldn't think it!!!

so in brief the pub rocks and will only get better now!!

wooo hoooo!!! :-)

i started working the dor at this venue about 4 weeks ago.
met some good customers and that staff are very friendly.
i do however agree that the music is to loud for this type of venue and the most complaints i recieve as customers leave is that it takes to long to be served.
the venue has ust this week had a new manager and he seems a good guy hopefully he makes changes and gets the place busy again.
doormanrich - 14 May 2006 10:45
After a recent-ish renovation this pub lost its "pensioners appeal" and now attracts a larger number of students that live in the area. The music can be as loud as what it's played in town bars, unabling people to have conversations. They also tend to kick you out as soon as the last bell rings, switching on the main lights and after a ranting of loud "can you finish your drinks please". The service is also poor because if the jukebox or machines eat your money, they don't refund your pound. Some times there is a DJ but no-one really dances. Since they've stopped the karaoke nights this pub has become a lot less lively. The most lively nights are when the football is on, however the drinks are reasonably prices.

Poor advert for the nearby cricket ground, from which this pub takes a lot of its custom.
Very limited but expensive selection of beers and food, poor service. We waited 45 minutes for four meals, and then two of them were wrong. Speaking to people around this is not unusual here.
