The Ostrich Hotel is like stepping back in time. The interior decor is to be seen to be believed. This is a very nice pub with a lovely ‘tropical’ garden surrounded by palm trees. Very friendly staff.

I had a sublime point of Harvey's Sussex Best on Sunday afternoon. The Harvey's is usually pretty good, though I'm only an occasional dropper in, once a month or so.
|
I had a lousy cup of tea here. Should have had a Guinness, but I was being "good"! Pool room seems to double up as a library. Saw the local penioners knitting in the main bar, that was quaint. The pub dog gave me an evil eye. The Victorian nude pics in the toilet made me laugh! I'd return.

Best for wine drinkers as landlord prefers and good choice of wines. Beer often 'off' or worse as neither landlord nor bar staff drink real ale and even the Guinness can be sour so sniff before you gulp. Sunday B-B-Q during Grand Prix season can be interesting as features food of the country where racing held. Much of custom has now gone to Salehurst Halt (younger) or George Inn (more mature and foodies).

Situated close to the railway station, this pub was a little different inside with wood panelling and lots of pictures on the walls. A pool table is at one end. I came to the conclusion that Robertsbridge has some very strange characters. Swearing is a common pastime and the behaviour just seemed strange. Even the resident cat and dog seemed a little loopy, with the cat diving around and over the bar. Harveys Best Bitter and Old Ale were the real ales. Addlestones was the real cider. Strange but amusing.

This is a gorgeous country pub. The staff are friendly and so are the locals. They can help you with local information and feed you some good grub; perfect! Close to the station, so you might just wander in by accident, but you'll be glad you did. The bar has pool table, a lovely garden and a big fireplace. They do different themed bbq's too. We came to stay in town May bank holiday weekend, only to find the campsite we'd booked was full up and the lovely people here at the ostrich let us camp in their back garden. They are truly hospitable folk. You cannot go wrong with this pub.

A definite "locals" pub. Lots of 'different' people, who sometimes make the Rovers Return (in Coronation Street) look realistic! Who needs the TV, or other entertainment media, when the 2 hours from 21.00 to 23.00 can be so interesting. Quirky maybe, but certainly different, and definitely not boring. Furthermore, the Harveys is usually excellent. The landlord Tony is a superb host, full of chat and always welcoming. He is also a very charitable person, especially on Grand Prix days, when food is provided free of charge!!

In again the other week, and pleased to report that things were greatly improved on my last visit - that is to say that, though Harvey's was the only cask beer on, it was extremely drinkable, and I drank quite a lot of it. The Ostrich remains a somewhat eccentric pub, and probably all the better for that.

stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. Except for, I assume the landlords friends/family I was the only other punter. Beer was OK, staff very quite but welcoming. No one else welcomed me, they were to busy talking amongst themselves and listen to music that would make a mortuary seem sad. I moved on to the George & Seven Sisters, take a look at my reviews on these pages

Everybody who lives in the village knows that Tony's beer-keeping is sloppy at the best of times. You can occasionally get a good pint, like back in 1997 one Sunday I seem to remember I even had a head on my beer. No matter how politely you inform him that you caught a whiff of vinegar as soon as you lifted the glass up towards your head he will disagree and forever hate you, and probably even bar you. (He's barred about 15 thousand people in his time here - great marketing Tone, and what a charming wife!)
One great thing is the cheese and onion rolls!

Visited again last week - sadly disappointed. Fuller's L.Pride close to undrinkable; Harvey's opaque. First time I've had bad beer here - hope it was just a one-off. As intimated below, this is a pub I've always had a lot of time for. I'll certainly try again, but with some misgivings.

A good pub, but Tony hasn't done any dining for many years (other than filled rolls on the bar wrapped in clingfilm) so I'm a little surprised by Hastings comment. It is very popular for B&B though. Fluctuating beer quality. Adjacent to Robertsbridge station - worth a stop for the atmosphere and the gallery in the gents!

Yes, it's a good place - I always try to look in when I'm in the area. There's something slightly off-beat and quirky about The Ostrich which I like, but which I can't quite pin down. It may be to do with the architecture, or it may be the aforementioned bohemian regulars; I don't know, but it produces a jizz that I like. Worth giving a try if you don't know it.

A pleasant pub with a good welcome, tasty dining and very good wine, this was my first visit, the first of many if it stays this way.
|
A good pint of Harveys Sussex Bitter to be had here. The jalapeno pepper crisps were a bit mouth-numbing.
|
The sort of pub you wish was your local. Fine wines, Good beer, Excellent interior, Bohemian selection of regulars, English country garden,Saucy prints in the Gents & a rusting MG in the car-park.
|
CAMRA listed local respected for its wines by the glass as much as it's real ales. Lovely garden in the summer, free car parking, interesting collection of antiques, prints & paintings.
