Nice enough place despite the previous appalling reviews on here. We only drank in here so can't comment on the food. Inside is cosy but we sat outside in a fairly large sun trap garden which was pleasant. Drinks tasted fine to me.

This could be a very nice pub. It was fairly busy with friendly locals. They do now allow dogs, so they have had a change of policy. (see a previous comment) The beer was perfectly acceptable. However the Landlady chose to serve her regulars before me although I was obviously at the bar first. I It doesn't fare well. I certainly wont bother again.

The beer was badly kept, the Sunday lunch was awful and the landlord inebriated.
There were some interesting old photos of Colyton's lost pubs. This one might disappear too unless it gets a good clean up very soon.

I am sorry to say The Kingfisher pub experience was the worst I have ever endured. Nothing for vegans, curmudgeonly service, mould on the walls, toilets outside, "no pets" but a resident hungry cat after your scraps!
My sister-in-law had the most appalling dish, a Greek salad comprising ripped up Iceberg Lettuce, lumps of feta cheese and a few old olives with no dressing whatsoever. The dish could have been presented better by my two year old! I dread to think what a Greek would have said.
To top it all I left with my eighty year old mother (she needed a headstart and fresh air) with the rest of our party settling the bill and we were chased after by the owner who accused us of "running off without paying"!
Please, don't bother!

I had read previous comments before visiting this pub and was a bit put off as most seemed negative but my husband and I felt very comfortable here and ate and drank here every night of our stay in Colyton. The ales were very good, the landlord and locals very welcoming and the food delicious. The only thing I would have changed was to have pasta on the menu one night!

After a long absence from devon I returned to this pub only to find it devoid of customers. It would appear that the old owners had moved on. What a shame. The beer is not as well kept and certainly over priced, the food was mediocre and not particularly well cooked. Where have all the locals gone? This was once a thriving little pub at the heart of the community. The answer might well lay with the owner who at best was abrupt and unwelcoming, dare I suggest a little intoxicated? Such a shame, I Don't think I shall return again.

Good selection of ales with a menu of tasting notes if you feel the need to read about what your palate should be experiencing. The pub itself seems fine to me, there's a bar area for drinkers and a dining room for eaters & it was a welcoming enough place.

Beer was fine - stayed in the garden as the regulars were banging on about how shit London is..we cant all afford to move to Devon.

Oh dear, one of the worst pub experiences I've had in years. I have popped into this place when on holiday in East Devon and in the past it's been fine for lunch and a pint. This year though, the lunchtime meal we ordered was a disaster. We waited over 50 minutes to be served even though the pub was quite empty. We chased up the order a couple of times but weren't given any timings or explanation as to what the problem was. When the food did come out, the mushroom stroganoff was off, the mushrooms old and rancid. By way of compensation we were offered more of the same which we declined. When I asked why there was a delay with the food, we were told that everything was cooked to order but seeing that the other dishes we ordered were on the specials board (e.g. liver and bacon), surely they should have anticipated what people would order and planned their timings accordingly? The worst thing was that we were offered no apologies or compensation. In fact there was a complete air of indifference which frankly explained a lot as the staff looked as fed up as we were. How this place got into the CAMRA guide is beyond me (the ale was nothing special) but needless to say I won't be going there again.

i found this pub serves below average food the guy can be very rude, didnt even get a staak knife to cut a tuff steak with a few chips and hard peas costing well above the rate of a qulity meal else were not recomemded at all

During a week in Colyton we used The Kingfisher several times. It's a cosy well-nooked place, decorated in up-to- date "ye olde worlde" style. The welcome is friendly enough, and the clientele were a cheerful 18 to 30 crowd in the main, with a selection of mature avuncular locals in support.
An appetising-looking pub-grub menu is offered tho' we did not eat here. A range of cask ales is offered, but during the week we were there, the quality was indifferent. On one occasion I could not finish a pint of Badger, and because we were with friends who lived locally & thought highly of the place, I surreptitiously surrendered it to the glass-collector full, and tried my luck with something else which was only marginally more inspiring.
It may have been an off few days, of course. But several pints over 2 or 3 visits confirmed that out-of-condition beer was all we were going to get that week.
Hope to visit again and find the beer in better nick. Cheers,
