The RAOB is a little out of the way and it's something of a surprise that it keeps going.
We visited on a Thursday lunchtime, when the place was surprisingly busy. The bar had 3 pumps but only one beer was available - GK St. Edmunds Gold - the IPA had apparently just run out. The Gold was better than I expected ( I'm not a fan of gold beers), but only one beer available isn't really good enough these days.
The pies were fine. It is essentially a stew in a bowl with a crust over the top. But both pastry and contents were very good and very hot. Chips were also good and the meal with came with a selection of vegetables which were cooked far better than one usually gets.
So pub was fine, food was fine, they just need to sort out the range of beer.

Four of us ate here a couple of Sundays ago and booked in advance, taking advice from other posts.
While the range of pies and wellingtons on the menus built up our excitement, we came down to earth with a bump when the overpriced food arrived. The wellington was just a filling on a plate with a pastry top; the pies a filling in a pot with the same wellington covering. Roasted potatoes from a bag you could get in a supermarket and the tiniest portions of veg were a further disappointment.

We were recommended this ub for food wuite a few times and decided to go and try it. What a lovely place! The food was absolutley fantastic and as other people said more Restauramt standard than pub, however it was brilliant. The pub itself is quaint and the service from the staff was absolutley brilliant. We will be returning again very soon and would highly recommend it to anyone who is in the area. 10 out of 10!

Great place to go for way above average pub food and good beer. The food and the service are truely exceptional with a wide range of delicious dishes served by genuinely helpful & friendly staff. I agree that it is almost more restaurant than pub , but this is a credit as it is down to the quality and style of the home cooked food. With 2 roaring fires I would go there just for a few pints of Abboi were it not for the temptations of the kitchen. Well worth a drive out. But be sure to book - such is it's popularity some nights.

Just three months on from my previous visit, and I found that everything had changed. Instead of just being able to pop in of a lunchtime and find plenty of free tables, order my beer and meal, and pay for it as I ordered, it's now more restaurant than pub. Full to capacity (entirely with old people). You wait to be seated, order at the table, pay at the end and receive a handwritten receipt! All very strange and nothing like a traditional English pub. But for the record the beer and food is as good as ever and the prices haven't increased.

I met a friend here for dinner on a Tuesday night in August. The pub is fairly small but very nicely kept and is on a main road. The evening food was very very good - traditional meals but very well prepared and much fresher than many pubs where most meals come straight from freezer-microwave to plate. An excellent pub - I'll be going back regularly.

Unfortunately the staff refuse to take orders on a Sunday lunchtime from anyone who hasn't booked in advance. I was informed that there would be no point up to closing time when I'd be able to order anything, so I might as well just go off and find another pub ...

Great base for a country walk. Good sized car park. Nice beers including a guest; also a wine list. The food is very expensive but I'd say it's worth it if you can afford it. Amazing selection of food for such a small place, and how unusual to see no less than 8 interesting veggie dishes. Friendly staff - nothing's too much trouble to them.

Found this pub in the "surrey pub walks" guide and went last week. It's a small country pub with a lot of character, we were also able to bring our dog in... the staff are laid back and friendly and had no problems with us parking our car and taking our walk. After a nice walk we sat down to a nice pint of IPA (only 2.50 very reasonable) I ordered a Steak Pie and my other half tried Venison with chocolate? don't worry though i tried it and it's not what you may think at first, very enjoyable indeed. Anyway would reccommend to anyone looking for a quite friendly place to have a nice meal, look out ofr my other Surrey postings

Nice little pub just outside Viginia Water. GK brews on served well and an interesting menu, certainly looked inticing but I didn't have the time to order anything. Easy-going clientele and bar staff, well worth going for a sampler.

The Manager, My name is Mitchell Addicott I am from Australia and have recently been traveling in the Surrey area, upon visiting your bar i was extremely impressed with the service and warmth that i recieved from your staff, it was was fantastic and made me feel at home, especially the bar lady kaylee (forgive me if i got the spelling wrong). I met another one of your staff later in that evening he said he worked in the kitchen, he introduced himself as RJ, he had red hair. These two people and your establishment made our stay glorious. Please pass these compliments on to the guys for us. Look forward to seeing you on our next visit Mooker and Egwato (nick names) Thanx

I was taken there for a very belated birthday lunch and it was definitely well worth the wait. The food was delicious. Am going back this weekend to sample some more!

Cosy little pub, on a back road near Viginia Waters, near Royal Holloway University. It serves the most amazing food. The selection of pies and Wellingtons is fantastic. The Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie is to die for. They also serve a good drop of Abbot and Ruddles.
