The RAOB is a little out of the way and it's something of a surprise that it keeps going. We visited on a Thursday lunchtime, when the place was surprisingly busy. The bar had 3 pumps but only one beer was available - GK St. Edmunds Gold - the IPA had apparently just run out. The Gold was better than I expected ( I'm not a fan of gold beers), but only one beer available isn't really good enough these days. The pies were fine. It is essentially a stew in a bowl with a crust over the top. But both pastry and contents were very good and very hot. Chips were also good and the meal with came with a selection of vegetables which were cooked far better than one usually gets. So pub was fine, food was fine, they just need to sort out the range of beer. ramblethenlunch - 8 Jan 2013 13:16 |
Four of us ate here a couple of Sundays ago and booked in advance, taking advice from other posts. While the range of pies and wellingtons on the menus built up our excitement, we came down to earth with a bump when the overpriced food arrived. The wellington was just a filling on a plate with a pastry top; the pies a filling in a pot with the same wellington covering. Roasted potatoes from a bag you could get in a supermarket and the tiniest portions of veg were a further disappointment. WobblyPop - 30 May 2011 18:02 |
We were recommended this ub for food wuite a few times and decided to go and try it. What a lovely place! The food was absolutley fantastic and as other people said more Restauramt standard than pub, however it was brilliant. The pub itself is quaint and the service from the staff was absolutley brilliant. We will be returning again very soon and would highly recommend it to anyone who is in the area. 10 out of 10! micala1 - 10 Aug 2010 14:24 |
